(Reuters) - One of two white Oklahoma men charged with murder and hate crimes over accusations of shooting dead three black people and wounding two said in an interview from jail on Saturday that he felt no hatred or ill-will toward African-Americans.
Prosecutors brought murder and hate crime charges on Friday against 19-year-old Jake England, who was arrested with Alvin Watts, 33. They are accused of killing two men and a woman and wounding two men in the shootings in Tulsa, Oklahoma, this month.
England's attorney, Clark Brewster, released a seven-minute jailhouse interview with his client on Saturday that was posted online by Tulsa NewsOn6.com.
Dressed in black-and-white striped prison garb, England said he counted African-Americans among his best friends and denied feeling any hatred or ill-will toward blacks.
"No I don't. Because the line of work that I was in and the place I lived, we always had to get along with everybody. It didn't matter what color you was," he said.

OMG I wish I could hear the chatter among the founders and great American souls who have gone on...and those great foreign souls who gave everything to come to America...and those who only dreamt of it...
if they could see us now...
What a repulsive bunch of sycophants and idiots we've become.
“He also explained how his girlfriend, with whom he had an infant son, shot herself in the head in January when she was standing “about two feet away” from him.’
They may want to dust of that coroner report and examine what exactly happened when the girlfriend, who was standing too feet away from him, was shot in the head.
Well, what exactly is his position then? The story doesn’t have any details regarding their own explanation of their motives. It is hard to believe someone would shoot five random black people they encountered on the street and not have race be a factor.
He sure as heck didn’t love the ones he shot.
The most bizarre part of all this is the lack of interest in the fact of murder.
All the press is interested in is whether it was a “hate crime.”
One of two white people?
Are all non-blacks considered white, because he was Cherokee and looked 100% Indian.
They might look forward to all the foreigners going back home eh!
“It is hard to believe someone would shoot five random black people they encountered on the street and not have race be a factor.”
I have read both their Facebook pages, and have looked at their friends. They both had many black friends...NO talk of racism.
I’m puzzled too.
I would think, if these guys didn't hate blacks that some sort of criminal enterprise(drug deal perhaps)went bad and these two were taking revenge. The shootings may not have been as random as they appear to be.
Couple of sociopaths out “collecting” for somebody. I’m sure the connection will eventually be figured out even if the perps have to tell them.
A neighbor who lived next to to England for 4 years said England described himself as “black”.
“Now it has been revealed that Jake England had specialty license plates identifying himself as a member of Oklahomas Cherokee Nation.”
Hate crimes are unconstitutional and need to be abolished by the Supreme Court, since they don’t protect a huge number of American citizens from crimes where the victims are racially profiled by racists, motivated by hate, then deliberately exterminated because of their race.
Which was exactly what happened to Ethan Nichols and Carissa Horton in Tulsa, when they were forced to their knees, at gunpoint, and then shot execution style in the head by African-Americans in Hicks Park on September 19th, 2011.
Either ensure equal protection under the law or replace the government with one that will.
Some of his best friends are black.
Good post! Thanks!
The Cherokees had slaves before 1865. It’s possible that this guy could be descended from one of the Cherokee slaves. I think there has been an ongoing legal battle over whether the Cherokee Nation has to accept the descendants of their slaves as full-fledged members of the nation (but it could be a different Oklahoma tribe that I’m thinking of).
