Opus Time
Vanity Opus

Posted on 04/17/2012 4:47:30 PM PDT by Williams

Well it's been about 13 years forgot my initial sign in name, so pretty much from the beginning.

Never wanted to write a Free Republic Opus, love reading news stories here and commenting every day.

Would rather not go out in anger seems pointless.

Then today the owner of the site called me a RINO (I'm not), surrender monkey (not) and told me to write my opus and get out.

My sin was fighting with someone who suggested Obama losing in the latest poll is "bad news".

I could list all the insanity of what is going on here. I've tried to approach Jim Robinson in email to gently suggest the problems we are facing. It's clear from that he is not interested in discussing and resolving anything, which is a shame.

But what kind of man, American, conservative will I be if I worry more about losing my 12 year old screen name versus standing up to people who are espousing the advisability of reelecting Barack Hussein Obama, and yes if I fail to stand up to the owner of a site for calling me a liberal when I am a proud conservative?

What Jim Robinson is doing cannot work because first of all he is NOT attacking the posters who say it is best to reelect Obama. He's offended by anyone who says he is thereby supporting Obama. But he doesn't mind calling us names when we attack the pro Obamas.

OK folks, it's not going to work. You can't really oppose Obama's reelection if you may also oppose the republican's election.

Free Republic has become a house divided against itself and it cannot stand.

I'm a conservative I love my country, I have to wish away to the cornfield anyone who would assist in the reelection of Obama, from whatever misguided motivations.

I stand with Dick Cheney. The other day I had to fight with someone disparaging Cheney here. They were not criticized by the owner.

Jim Robinson owes me an apology. Not planning on getting one. The sad fact is I am not writing this because I'm offended. It's because I want to no longer assist here in the destruction of my country by those who will, to varying degrees, assist in Obama's reelection.

Six or seven liberals on the Supreme Court? Maybe atomic destruction down the pike after our disarmament. Israel destroyed. 2nd Amendment neutered. Obamacare used to deny people medical care based on age and political beliefs. Racial strife. A welfare socialist state. US attorneys going after republicans.

My wife is a cancer survivor who reasonably fears that in the future they will deny her care because she is a registered republican. And she's no RINO, she hates Obama and she won't read Free Republic stories anymore because of what is going on here.

We have a real country and real lives out here that go beyond Jim Robinson's ill advised name calling against sincere conservatives who dare to disagree with him.

So F anyone who calls me a RINO for standing with Dick Cheney and against Barack Obama. I hate RINO's and I despise misguided so called conservatives who do anything to reelect Obama.

13 years, but it's nothing when put to the wall on my beliefs against the left wing democrat party. I have too many mirrors to look in. The people here who are every day posting that it will be best to reelect Obama, should be thrown off. Instead, well...

It's over.

YOU don’t know me.

I’m as conservative as they get. Worked on the Reagan campaign and many others since.

You might not be a conservative if your actions or inaction of not voting brings this country to it’s knees under communist principles.

These people are dangerous.

I’ll vote for anybody but O.

If you want to continue to call names and label me a RINO, without knowing anything about me, so be it.

I think then, that gives me the right to call YOU a CommieO marxist, socialist enabler.

Jim, when Laz called you a leader, he was being very accurate.

Sometimes, the truth just has to be verbalized.

You are a leader, because you refuse to compromise your principles.

The recent intensity around here concerning Romney was an excellent illustration of this fact.

With Santorum dropping out, and Newt being so low in the polls, and all the calls coming from the GOP-E to “get behind the leader”, you alone said “Not me!”.

You stood in one place and would not be moved.

Your defense of your position made me reassess just how little of a Republican and a conservative Romney really is compared to the hype about him.

It made me decide that while there is still one conservative standing, I would get behind that man and support him until that man was out of the race. I did not have to be forced into the false decision of Romney or Obama.

There was another option, and overlooked. I would support Newt until he threw in the towel. Newt was not my first choice, but the other choices were culled out of the race.

At least Newt stood for conservative principles.

It was shocking to see how little Romney really stood for. Since I never supported him, I did not look too deeply into his positions.

But you Jim were immovable on the subject of abortion. When I studied the history of Romney’s positions on abortion, it made me angry, because I had been a part of the pro-life movement for well over 25 years.

I respect your stand, and admire your steadfastness.

It inspired me not to grow weary, but instead to renew the battle.

My late mother used to tell me “To thine own self, be true.”

For if we cannot be true to ourselves, then we cannot be true to anyone else.

The fight is not over. We are not puppets of the Republican Party.

We are realizing that the Party is leaving us. And they are free to go.

We stand on our principles and can stand in no other place.

The winds of change blow as they will, but a leader knows himself and raises a flag for others to guide upon.

Thank you for being a leader, Jim. It is a such a rarity today.

And Laz, I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to see your compassion and clarity on this thread. I always knew you were above average in intelligence due to the high level of humor in your posts, but after this thread there can be no doubt.

One last thing—this thread has a lot of long time Freepers who I deeply respect. It is good to see your names. Gideon did not need a vast army to defeat an oversized enemy. The quality of you longtime Freepers make us a Gideon-type army fighting for the best values of America and for our families. You really are great Americans.

“I was, however, deeply disappointed to hear of his support for Romney.”

Just wait until Palin, Santorum, Gingrich et al throw their support for Romney. They will you know.

Don’t recall ever referring to myself as a “leader.” Just one man with a key board...

Leaders don't always start out intending to lead.

Sometimes, they turn around and look back to see that they acquired followers.

What I don’t know is why so many people want to deny that is what they believe. It is a principled position, and people should stand up for their principles, not try to deny them. If you oppose Romney, oppose him, and proudly admit that you are so sure of your beliefs that you would rather have Obama be president.

That is another false dichotomy based on your assumption that you can predict the future as well as an assumption that you can read minds.

I won't support Romney but I don't know that he will not still win. And it doesn't matter. The result is irrelevant when I don't want either choice. The only principle I stand on is that I won't support evil and I have not been reticent to voice that and defend it.

"Your logic is flawed"

MY logic? For someone named "Truth", you seem to be unable to accept it. There is simply no scenario where anyone other than Obama or Romney will be president next year.

This isn’t the first time we’ve gone through this kind of gut wrenching agony here.

I understand what you’re saying, but it really turns my stomach to contemplate voting for a liar and fool like Romney. Then I think of the consequences of not doing it, and they are undeniably far worse.

Its partly about pride; its tough to swallow. I truly cherish all that Jim has done here over the last 15 years, and I prefer to believe that he will grow through this as he has through other similar crises in the past, and I’ll hang on for that for a while.

I hope you will also.

Call me what you like. If you care to explain to me how one ‘takes off’ his conservatism like a sweaty pair of socks, goes and votes for a rabid liberal with an “R” behind his mane, then puts them (conservative ideals) right back on like nothing ever happened, I’ll do it too.

But that would be exactly what Muslims do when they run over the hill to Dubai where “Allah can’t see them”, act western for the weekend and then come back all pious and woman killing now wouldn’t it?

No I don’t know you and don’t want to. I know enough people willing to be cafeteria conservatives. I wish I was rid of the ones I already know since they are the problem of the Republican Party and the conservative movement as a whole.

Since Sarah didn’t run, Newt was “my Boy” since well before it was ok on this forum to be a Newt supporter. I was bashed for being a Newt supporter back then, here at FR too.

Mitt sucks and isn’t a conservative in any sense of the word.

But -

The alternative current Commie in Chief given his “flexibility” will ruin this country for eternity.

Bingo!
There is no opposition party.

There are nearly 7 months left for someone to fill the vacuum.

I will never vote for Romney.

I pray that there will be someone on that day for me to vote FOR!

The future is not hard to predict. Of course, someone could drop dead, or there could be some cataclysm, but with 99.9% certainty either the republican or democratic nominee will be elected.

And in the end, the only way a candidate wins is by getting more votes than the other candidate. Because of the electoral college, one can easily “not support” or “not vote for” the republican candidate, and it won’t make any bit of difference — for most states, one or the other candidate are guaranteed to win that state.

But that’s not very “prinicpled”, to say “I get to follow my principles because I know there will be no consequences”.

As to your “principle”, I don’t want to put words in your mouth, but in my opinion your principle is really “I won’t support evil, even to stop a greater evil”. You don’t really get to just say “I won’t support evil”, and pretend that this choice doesn’t have consequences.

In World War 2, The United States allied with the evil Russian Empire, in order to stop a more evil German empire. By your principle, we should not have done that, even if it meant Germany took over the world. I’m not deriding your principle, I’m trying to take what you say as truth, and suggest the logical consequence of your argument.

More over-the-top hysteria before the primary is barely half over.

I remember people saying the same thing about Clinton and Dole here on FR.

I'm not voting for Mitt. I'll vote for a conservtive.

Please explain in detail the ‘class’ involved in coming on a site where the owner has repeatedly made clear that any support of Romney is unwelcome, then telling the world you will support Romney and getting offended when mocked.

Please. Do tell.

Bishop Mittens might even win without our votes. What can we expect? None of the things that Newt promised to do on the first day, that’s for sure. I think we can expect in such case a third Bushie or something similar. The man is a nothing, another empty suit. You know very well that he won’t do to the Federal Government what he did to countless private corporations that Bains took over. Bishop likes to get along, like a Mormon missionary that he is. I say, keep his feet to the fire, is the best we can hope for.

I’m hardly taking off my conservatism. I’m looking ahead at the prospect of 3 Supreme Court nominees that may have to be named during the next administration.

With “flexibility”, the CommieKing will appoint an a field of Van Jones types.

The race war has begun. Open your eyes.

The only thing I’m sure of is that Mitt doesn’t hate this country like the current asswipe does.

Again - I’m hoping for Newt and was an early Newt supporter. Still am. Still working on his campaign.

But, I will vote for Mitt over the demise of country alternative.
