US: Strike on N. Korea Possible if Nuclear Test Held
KBS World ^ | April 17, 2012 | Not Listed

The commander of the U.S. Pacific Command says the U.S. may launch a surgical strike against missile bases and nuclear test sites in North Korea if it conducts a third nuclear test.

Admiral Samuel Locklear explained the U.S.'s position on Tuesday at a meeting with South Korean defense journalists at the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command (CFC) in Seoul.

Locklear said Washington is closely watching the North in relation to the possibility of a third nuclear test, adding the U.S. and South Korea are looking at all options including a surgical strike.

Regarding the North’s new long-range ballistic missile unveiled on Sunday, Locklear said the U.S. will closely monitor the North’s missile development in cooperation with South Korea and other allies.

The commander added that the U.S. will maintain its military presence of about 28-thousand-500 troops in South Korea.

And don’t forget N. Korea’s partner in engineering those things: Iran.

Get real. Just cut off the food and let them starve. If we strike North Korea then Seoul gets pummeled in retaliation. There is no way to get all their artillery and rocket positions before they have savaged the city.

Obama is an armature. He makes threats he can't carry out, and that means nobody takes him seriously. Threaten to cut off food aid, that is a real threat. Threaten to blockade their coast, that is a real threat. Threaten anything short of all out invasion to push them back out of range of Seoul and they know it is a bluff. And we don't have the forces in theater to actually invade the North so even that would be a bluff without a major buildup first.

Locklear is speaking out of turn and has NO support for this position in the WH or the Congress.

No worse enemies than the Japs. Pretty good friends, but if you want to get their attention you have to drop the big one. Twice.

You and your Dad are exactly right about how we shoulda turned MacArthur loose(r). But my 3.5 inch bazooka didn’t have any real trouble with T-34 sheet iron-—you just had to be closer than he could shoot——that’s the butt-pinching part.

Get real. Just cut off the food and let them starve.

I remember when we flew rice into NK. They would reject the bags with any Korean or Japanese markings. We would have to re-bag the rice in bags with Indian markings. I'm certain that the NK poeple have no idea that their two southern neighbors were feeding them.

This would not be a roll over like Iraq. The NKs would put up a better fight plus you can't tell a South Korean from a North Korean. There will be lots of infiltrators that can run amok in the south.

Not going to happen. This isn’t Libya here... North Korea has far more powerful friends in the region than Gadhafy did in North Africa.

Plus, the thought of losing much of their capital city is cause for concern on the part of South Korea.

It’s just bluster...nothing more.

In other words, just wait until after Obama’s last election. Then you can have your 3rd test. Obama will be much more flexible after the election. Just ask Putin.

I honestly couldn’t see this administration attacking NK even if it sank one of our aircraft carriers,

That is the real issue, not NK's hypothetical retaliation. We could handle that. The problem is political, not military, and we have a political traitor on the White House.

It will take the form of a strongly worded letter, maybe two.

Those letters? “O” and “K”.

Thanks No One Special.

WTF, just make an announcement that the action is considered a de-facto abrogation of the Armistace Agreement and that the United States and the United Nations (by extension) are back in active war mode against North Korea.

Just send the NORKS some food, all they have is bark and leaves to eat.

Get them stuffed on Crispy Cremes and they will just die from excess sugar.

Thanks, cherokee - My Dad is a hero to me - a real combat vet, like yourself. I’ve only READ of Task Force Smith and other Korean combat - Dad (and you) live it. I was in the 2nd ID on the DMZ in’92-’93. Nothing compared to the war. My own combat experience was on Grenada in 1983 - a VERY brief one - I’m proud of it, but it was very, very brief in comparison.
