GSA official’s wife accompanied him on trips at taxpayer expense
Washington Post ^ | April 17, 2010 | Lisa Rein

The senior government executive who organized the lavish Las Vegas conference at the center of a General Services Administration spending scandal took dozens of trips for the agency. The boss's wife accompanied him on some of them — and taxpayers picked up the tab.

Deborah Neely wasn't always just sharing husband Jeffrey E. Neely's hotel rooms at resorts from Las Vegas to the Pacific islands. She handled party arrangements, directed event planners to spend government money and arranged lodging for relatives on the GSA trip to Las Vegas in 2010, an unusual role revealed in transcripts of interviews that the agency's inspector general's office conducted with Jeffrey Neely, as well as in congressional hearings.

Her role as the "first lady of Region 9" — as an investigator called her — shows a management culture in GSA's Pacific Rim region that not only allowed the $823,000 Las Vegas gathering for 300 people and overspending on other conferences but also openly condoned perks for managers and their family members.

"Mr. Neely and his wife believe they were some sort of agency royalty who used taxpayer funds to bankroll their lavish lifestyle," Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (Md.), the ranking Democrat on the oversight panel, said Monday.

Sounds like a certain wife of a federal government worker in Washington D.C.

Read the whole thing. But take your blood pressure medicine first.

GSA - 12,000 employees who service only the Gov’t has an annual budget of $26.3 Billion

NASA - ~300,000 employees with an annual budget of $18.4 Billion and serve the US and mankind.

One of these has created countless jobs in Spin-off techology, helps mankind through advances in science, medical, chemistry, computer science, software and material sciences; the other is a group of parasites.

Am I the only one who has a problem with this?

The rot begins at the head. This administration is evil and it is rotten through and through.

The heads of these Regions are political appointees of the administration. I wonder who recommended the regional administrator to the president...hum, it is in SF...now then, whom is the local rep, Queen Pelousy and if one looks at the Senate, we have two more dem losers....Boxer and Fienstein. I would begin looking there for an answer to my question of whose political patronage this job was. Furthermore, the history of GSA has its roots in the dems, mostly from the big cities...NY and Chicago used to run the show.

My daughter-in-law works for the feds and is working for the one of the pubbie budget committees and she will actually argue that they are cutting the federal budget in their proposals.

When I point out that if the amount of money being spent, increases, year over year, there is no way that the federal budget was cut.

The feds look at little departments and say, see we cut $100 in this budget, but yes overall the total budget went up by a .....

The federal employee, even the conservative ones, have a compartment in their heads, which say, we must increase entitlement spending just to stay even.

They are so ingrained in the "base line budgeting process" that they cannot understand, real cuts.

Does anyone have an explanation as to why his wife wrote, "It’s yo birfday. . . . We gonna pawty like iz yo birfday!” ? It is the style that I find interesting. Is she an adult? Does she have any education? Is English her first or second language? At first I thought that this email from her was made up but it appears that she did in fact send this email. It is odd to me, maybe I am old fashioned but her style just makes me shake my head.

I keep hitting on the same thing in hopes that, SOMEDAY, enough people will see and understand what I am saying.

Our government is corrupt and irreparably broken and we need to hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and reset it back to what the Founders originally intended. They left us a perfect government that worked pretty well for 200 years and, unfortunately, they had to leave the control and care of the government to people with lesser ability and lesser intelligence.

Regional Administrators of most federal agencies are political appointees—invariably ignorant hacks with ties to Congress and/or the White House.

Those positions need to be abolished across the board.

Ugh.

As much as I might enjoy blaming Obama for this and the Sec. Service stuff, I think to do so implies that it will all stop when he's out of office and I don't think it will. This is a Washington problem. This is a Federal Government problem that is bigger than party.

The sense of ‘entitlement’ isn't just a Dem problem, it is a Federal Government problem.

That said, Obama absolutely embodies that attitude and arrogance which is at the heart of this mess.

NASA - ~300,000 employees with an annual budget of $18.4 Billion and serve the US and mankind.

Actually, since Obama killed the space program and ordered NASA to help Muslims appreciate their "contributions". I guess "contributions" is the code word for murder and destruction. They not only don't like Christians, they don't even like other Muslims that are different sects.

So, why does NASA have to focus on helping murderers "appreciate" their "contributions"??

Actually, since Obama killed the space program and ordered NASA to help Muslims appreciate their "contributions", NASA isn't doing anything to help anyone do anything.
