Vanity: Obama Victim Strategy
4/18/2012 | myself

OK maybe this is so obvious not to merit a post. But this occurred to me and I'll put it out there FWIW.

It occurred to me how the Obama 2012 strategy is becoming clear as time goes by.

1. Figure out the hyphenated groups that compose your base be they African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, Women, Welfare recipients, enviro-whackos, etc. etc. (OK put airquotes around hyphenated).

2. Come up with a media/social media incident that not only energizes the base but more importantly strikes a strong chord of victimhood. Basically Sandra Fluke/War on Women. Trayvon Martin/War on Hoodies.

3. Make the base feel scared, feel like victims, and identify with the poor, sympathetic poster child.

4. Paint republicans as the tormentors and agressors.

5. Fan the flames on all possible media including facebook and twitter.

6. Rinse, lather, repeat.

KEYWORDS:
OK maybe this is completely obvious and if so, guilty as charged. Also worth pointing out that many dictators have done exactly this strategy throughout history (minus, of course, the facebook and twitter part).

I think this is the template going forward and I think we'll see more of this with different parts of the base.

This has been the Democratic strategy for over the past 1/2 century.

It’s similar to what’s been used but with a bit of a twist.

The Alinsky plan is to tar and feather the opposition. This is using victimology to do that.

The Dem Strategy in the time of LBJ, or FDR was not to focus on one particular victim. It was to use classes of people as victims. This is a much more personalized style of victim exploitation that is tailor made for our 24 hour news cycle social media driven world.

Sure, it’s a lot of the same ideas, but highly optimized for a twitter driven world.

The message has to be conveyed in 140 characters and made to go viral. This is what is new.

I agree with you 100%. It is so obvious.

The next group that will be courted is the hispanic vote. Expect some crisis about May 1st that shows how much compassion obummer has for illegals.

A relatively positive aspect of this victimhood is that it panders to the voters that are already his, the blacks, the femi-nazis, the mushheaded young and the 48% that don't pay federal income taxes.

People are now going on twitter and their “avi’s” (that is their tiny profile pic) are now pics of them in hoodies. It’s very powerful victimology that works on a very personal as well as viral level. It’s not about policies, it’s not (outwardly) about any particular candidate - but it’s very manipulative, very clever, and perfectly crafted for the twitter-verse.

It’s not about 0bama having compassion - that’s almost left to the imagination. It’s about finding some poor Latino kid that something awful happened to and making them a symbol. I think a good example is the James Byrd dragging death that was used against Bush in 2004 I think it was.

It’s the James Byrd strategy across multiple groups in the base and virally fanned on Twitter and Facebook.

But you don’t even mention the candidate - it’s all just about stirring up strong emotional negatives in the base. Make them feel that they are “under attack”. That’s it.

I notice that the leftist media has nothing to say about the horrid death of Jesse Dirkhising less than a year after the death of Matthew Shepard which they still bring up sometimes.

Jesse’s tragic death didn’t fit the liberal template.

Exactly. Need an aggrieved minority. Then need to find a poster child - Matthew Shepard, like James Byrd, fit the template perfectly. Then you pound the drums and stir up the fear in the base. The beauty is that it’s all done virally and the candidate stays above the fray (except to casually comment if he had a son, he’d look like Trayvon). It’s perfectly designed for where we are as a society in 2012.

I would change the method to skewing the circumstances to make them a symbol.

It's obvious the MSM is a willing accomplis for dis-information. This has been obvious since Nixon. The MO is to get the emotional story out first then later, usually much later and on page 24 of the NY Times publish a correction.

The social media helps this effort. Anyone can post anything online and not be subject to the legal test of slander. Couple that with the propogation rate of the sensational (going viral) and you have opinions made up long before the pesky facts interfere.

Yup - that’s it exactly. Fear is probably the strongest human emotion, group politics has long been the staple of the RAT party, and all that’s needed is to apply these principles to a social-media driven world. And definitely the MSM can play their role simply by saying “there are those that say” or “increasing calls are being heard” as well as the odd strategic edit of a 911 tape or what have you.

The strategy is brilliant in its simplicity and proven track record as well as its “appear to be above the fray” aspects.
