Obama Once Needed 'to Take a Subway or a Bus Just to Find a Fresh Piece of Fruit’ By Penny Starr April 18, 2012

(CNSNews.com) - Barack Obama's vision as president is shaped by the fact that he knows what "it's like to take a subway or a bus just to find a fresh piece of fruit in a grocery store," Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan said last week.

Donovan seemed to be suggesting that the president had once lived in what First Lady Michelle Obama now refers to as a "food desert"--a place without a nearby supermarket. The First Lady has launched an initiative to eliminate these places.

“Why has all this work been such a priority for the president and every one of us in the administration?” Donovan said. “Because he knows what you know: He knows what it’s like to walk the halls of public housing because he’s worked there.”

“He knows what it’s like to walk the streets of some of our cities’ poorest neighborhoods because he’s lived there,” Donovan said. “What it’s like to take a subway or a bus just to find a fresh piece of fruit in a grocery store.”

Donovan also said the president had to “wonder” about whether he could “afford a college education or decent health care” or be “judged” unfairly.

Hmmm, let us think this through. I don’t think they have subways in Mombasa, Indonesia or Hawaii so those places are out. I don’t think even SADO would put an infant by himself on a subway to ride to get some fruit in Seattle so that’s out. So, the earliest he’d ever have had to ride the subway would have been in college.

In other words, he’s proved once again he’s a big fat liar.

I realize viewing things from the Founders’ perspective is overused

No, that’s a skill that can never be over used. You ask the critical question here. Is this a job for which our government was created to serve? From a libertarian view that answer is not only no, but heck no.

Cripes, it’s bad enough a lot of these people are on foodstamps - now what - they want a grocery store on every corner???? I live in a small town and not everyone has a vehicle so it’s not uncommon to see people getting on the bus across the street from the supermarket after shopping and it’s certainly not uncommon to see people walking home from the supermarket.

Having a fruit stand within easy walking distance is a self-evident human right. We should amend the Declaration.

What's he complaining about? Sounds like a pretty safe neighborhood.

(I noticed he didn't say anything about pointed sticks)

"Fresh piece of fruit" is slang for what?

Colombian hot tamale?

Okay, so what is "Colombian hot tamale" slang for?

Wierd. I have to drive to the store just get groceries.

Said store is about 2 miles from home. Just darn.

I have to burn Earth Vomit to get there too.

When I lived on the East coast it wasn’t uncommon to use the train or subway or taxi to get around. Hell, you can do the same thing in San Francisco and the Bay Area.

If by “subway or bus” he meant “limo” on his state’s sentor expense account, and by “fresh piece of fruit” he meant “Larry Sinclair”, then I guess he is pretty accurate.

“He knows what it’s like to walk the streets of some of our cities’ poorest neighborhoods because he’s lived there,” Donovan said.

He's a liar. He lived in a middle class neighborhood and went to a private school from the fifth grade on in Hawaii.

The 0bama File

The Dunhams enrolled "Barry Obama" in the prestigious Punahou School, starting in the fifth grade. He attended Punahou on a scholarship, through the generosity of many donors, and the influence of Stanley Armour's boss, who was a Punahou alum. Obama walked the five blocks from his grandmother's apartment on Beretania to the school.

With more than 3,000 students, Punahou is the largest private school in the country, and it sits on a lush, sprawling campus in Honolulu. The school is elite and wealthy.

I guess our neighborhoods had “beer deserts”.

We had to drive to the next county to buy beer.

Horrible! He had no access to fresh fruit. I hope he was able to catch an occassional stray dog (or perhaps someone’s house pet) for his dinner.

I heard on Rush today that Obama wrote in his first autobiography that he ate dog meat in Indonesia.

You mean the Saudis who paid for his pricey education didn’t spring for a car?

Lots of us WORKED and PAID for our educations.

My meal of convenience being very cheap and not time consuming was dry cereal. Potted meat (the ears, nose and anus type, not Spam) on white bread was a luxury.

Most times, I went hungry unless a friend sprang for a meal on their university meal card.

I am so damn tired of the whinning from these people.

GET OVER YOURSELVES!
