April 20, 2012 Romney’s Women Split: Single vs. Married

One of the meta-themes of the 2012 campaign, or at least the early stages of it, has been Mitt Romney’s problem reaching women voters. In many polls, the gender gap looks more like a gender chasm for the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee.
The latest Wall Street Journal/NBC survey seems to be just the latest bit of evidence of Mr. Romney’s “woman problem” – it shows a 12-point deficit with the female voters in a head-to-head matchup with President Barack Obama.
But look closer and a different divide emerges, a more complicated one around marriage.
In that same poll Mr. Romney wins with married voters, even married women – he carries them by 3 percentage points 49% to 46%. He does better with married men, winning them by 13 percentage points, 52% to 39%.
But when the lens shifts to unmarried voters, the score changes dramatically. Mr. Romney trails Mr. Obama by an astounding 36 percentage points among women who aren’t married – 28% to 64% respectively. And it doesn’t get much better for the Romney team if you shift to look at men. He trails the president among men who aren’t married by some 23 percentage points – 33% for Mr. Romney versus 56% for Mr. Obama.

I was listening to Medved yesterday and some woman called in saying she needed the government to feed her. When pressed on why she thinks that’s the responsibility of the government she said she didn’t have a job and she’d never gotten married and she needs help... that was pretty much it. Basically admitted that the government is husband insurance. Don’t have one, the government is it! I think she’s not the only one out there.
And all the Gloria Steinham, Molly Yard type Liberals have for decades told women they don’t need a husband and that marriage was a form of servitude. These women have been willingly duped. In many cases they have traded a stable family life for promiscuity, STDs, unwed motherhood, and a slave to government handouts. Wow, now that’s a liberated woman!
LOTS of reasons...certainly "husband insurance" -- as pepsi_junkie mentioned...is one of them...
Abortion insurance is another...The single woman regards abortion as "back-up" birth control...yup, you sovereignly "control" that little human by dismembering him or her...
Romney is "pro-life" on paper...and these women don't care if he has a pro-abortion track record...they figure Obama is more pro-abort.
Also, the Mormon culture doesn't have historically a very good track record for the treatment of women...
...polygamy that lasted in real-time years thru the early 1960s, when the last of the mainstream Mormon polygamists died out...
...hardly ANY mention of REAL women (by name) in the Book of Mormon...
...a wife needs her husband's consent to call her thru the veil on the other side...no call, no "salvation" in that sphere...
...these women don't always know all the Mormon details, but they've heard enough bits & pieces to think that Mormonism is a culture of suppression...& they also think of the fundamentalist Mormon forced child-brides...

Merely speaking of reputation...because so many "reputations" of Lds fall flat when compared to "reality"
For example, Lds are supposed to be highly conservative politically...
...yet 94-95% of Mormons vote for a big govt socialist healthcare pioneer who's also a pro-abort [how does that compute?]
...also, as Fishtank pointed out today on another thread, name one nationally known conservative Mormon pol...they don't exist
Mormons have a rep for being "honest"...
...yet of all the religious bodies, the Lds have had more affinity fraud problems the last 2 yrs than any other...and they are only 1.7% of the population!
Mormons have a rep for "taking care of themselves"...
...Yet a few years ago, Utah was in the Top 5 foreclosures...and Utah County -- the heart of Mormonism in Utah (85% Lds)...was in the Top 35 or so regional problem areas for foreclosures in the nation.
Obviously, the economic situation is a reason for Mormons to vote against Obama...
...but a key 2008 exit poll in Utah showed that Mormons didn't vote for Romney then for really ANY issues...'twas "personal qualities"...Mormon talk for identity politics ["he's a fellow Mormon" -- and you're (the other guy) is not"]
Well, this was certainly logical, considering that Obama and the Democrat party offered a free Burka to any single white girl that voted Obama.
White guilt and a bitterness towards white men that is brainwashed into them by the Left.
And to add to my previous post, I believe this bitterness towards white men subsides in white women who are married precisely because they are usually married to white men. Single white women are more untethered to white men and of course are inundated with the cultural bias towards white men. So, the results are predictable.
Could it be that many single white women tend to date, shack-up, marry with minorities and Third World types who vote Democrat? Kardashian types?
Single women went for Clinton in a big way too.

Those single women in 2008 mostly remain single in 2012, and they adore non-competitive workplaces with hiring quotas and great bennies, such as one finds at all levels of gov’t. Thanks Steelfish.
I’ve observed that among interracial couples where the man is black, don’t marry. And, it looks to me that the vast majority of interracial couples involve white women and black men.
