Has anybody heard about this, and would you allow a FBI security partner to run a program on your computer.

If the whole internet went down I wouldn’t feel as bad as I do when only FreeRepublic is down.

“Here is an instant check:

If you see green, you are good. Red background, not so good.”

OK what is that and what does it tell you?

Hi Anjullyn,

The bad guys behind DNS Changer were caught last November, but because millions of infected PCs were still being directed to the malicious DNS Servers, a court ordered that a private company take over those servers in order to give victims time to clean up their infected machines and reset their DNS settings to legitimate providers. Originally, the DNS Changer servers were to be taken down last March, but because of the number of users still infected, a delay was granted until July.

So, if you have a DNS Changer infection that is still unresolved, you may find that you will be unable to reach any websites after the servers are no longer operational on July 9. For more background on this, see Brian Krebs’ blog here:

http://krebsonsecurity.com/2012/03/court-4-more-months-for-dnschanger-infected-pcs/#more-14008

To check your PC for DNS Changer, visit this site:

http://www.dcwg.org/detect/

Norton detects DNS Changer as Zlob or Tidserv as explained here:

http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/operation-ghost-click-turn-dns-changer-ccs-dark-side
*************************************************

These comments from the Norton Community make me feel a little better... I will make another Post if I actually try this DCWG.ORG site

What is a "DNS Changer>"

Does it stand for "Do Not Suffocate?"

“Gee, didn’t the Sons of Liberty meet in taverns and other places?”

I watched a re-run of the History of Beer on the UFO..er, I mean History Channel and beer’s popularity swelled during the colonial times when they did indeed, meet at taverns and openly mocked the limeys. At the same time while drinking beer, they concocted plans how to run the American revolution.

In essence, America and beer go hand in hand when it comes to freedom.

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/D/DNS.html

(1) Short for Domain Name System (or Service or Server), an Internet service that translates domain names into IP addresses. Because domain names are alphabetic, they’re easier to remember. The Internet however, is really based on IP addresses. Every time you use a domain name, therefore, a DNS service must translate the name into the corresponding IP address. For example, the domain name www.example.com might translate to 198.105.232.4.

The DNS system is, in fact, its own network. If one DNS server doesn’t know how to translate a particular domain name, it asks another one, and so on, until the correct IP address is returned.
