Black Conservative Mia Love Wins Utah GOP’s 4th Congressional District Nomination

Black Mormon Conservative Mia Love won the GOP’s 4th Congressional District nomination

Mia Love pulled a major upset, winning the Republican Party nomination in Utah’s 4th Congressional District, advancing to face U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson in November. Love won 70.4 percent of the vote from the delegates while former state lawmaker Carl Wimmer captured 29.6 percent.

From Love4Utah website:

In November 2011, Mia Love filed to run for Utah’s newly formed 4th Congressional District based on her demonstrated leadership on conservative principles. She credits her parents with providing the foundation for her ideals. After many years of living in the unstable, regime-torn socialist island country of Haiti, her parents immigrated legally to the United States with $10 in their pockets in hopes of achieving the American Dream.

Mia was born in Brooklyn, New York and eventually moved to Connecticut. Mia recalls both parents working hard to earn a living, her father at times taking on second jobs cleaning toilets to pay for school for their three children. On the day of Mia’s college orientation, her father said something to her that would become the ethos for her life:

“Mia, your mother and I never took a handout. You will not be a burden to society. You will give back.

. As City Councilwoman and eventually Mayor, Mia led the city through a period of 1700% population growth in a decade. Under her leadership, the city was able to successfully navigate the drastic transition from agricultural fields to a booming residential community. When the citizen growth necessitated fire and police services, Mia fought to make sure the city’s first ever residential tax implementation would only pay for those essential services, and she structured it in such a way that the tax decreased as a percentage of property value. Go Mia, Go!

Besides, that was Clinton ‘s doing.

Um, no. The GOP Congress passed it twice, only to have Clinton veto it. Clinton finally caved during the election year (1996) and signed it into law.

Im not giving him all the credit for signing tanf and wia. Reform needs to happen again reducing the 48 months to 24 months and put a time limit on food stamps. Welfare is killing this country financially and morally.

I agree. The problem is, the recipients vote, and the same politicians who pander to them pander to others, who in turn will also vote for them.

I see only two ways this will change. Either people will see how this is hurting us as a whole and stop voting them in, or the money runs out and the pandering politicians are no longer able to deliver on the free goodies they keep promising.

That is the problem. Of course you are going to vote for the person who is providing for you and your family. The goal is to make everyone wards of the state. On the bright side, methinks us hard working people by far outnumber them. 72 million on food stamps out of 320 million.

Yikes, 72 million on food stamps, and all the MSM wants to talk about is our economic “recovery”.

Endorsed by Romney’s son? Other than that, she looks awesome. What are her odds in the general?

It does not matter how many persons of color become GOP candidates or office holders. They are ideologically not black. I listened to a clip of Harry Belafonte speaking about what blacks were really black. To be a true black politician one has to be ‘down for the struggle’. Which is to say they must see politics as an endless zero sum game played to shake the ‘man’ down and make Whitey pay for his sins. The ‘sin of slavery’ and the ‘crimes of Jim Crow’ can never, never be expiated but Whitey has to be relentlessly mau maued and denigrated and shaken down so that black folks can enjoy some retribution and pay back and pay off. He specifically mentioned every prominent non ‘civil rights’black as sellouts including Colin Powell. So the professional ‘civil rights blacks’ who are one of the pillars of the Dem party will never have anything to say about people such as Rep West or this woman than’sell out, white man's n-——, oreo’.

She’s virtually tied with incumbent Democrat Jim Matheson in a GOP-leaning district. With her blowout convention victory, it should give her positive momentum. Matheson thought he’d probably be facing Carl Wimmer, who lost.

You maybe right, the last redistricting moved Mathesons District out of His Salt Lake City Base, if I recall correctly.
