They just want a “safe”, non-threatening, feel good candidate like Romney.

Yes, yes, yes, yes!!

The GOP electorate has a large plurality at least of people like your mom, and like my wife's whole family.

They love a candidate who is dignified, speaks in comforting patriotic platitudes, tells them that we can easily get on a smooth glide path to prosperity, and has CEO-style hair.

They all get to vote, even though if they showed up to give their opinions on FR they'd be zotted by sundown.

So damn many Freepers just refuse to deal with this reality, and it bites them in the hiney every primary season.

Maybe they actually like Santorum and think he’s the better choice.

Santorum nearly beat Gingrich in Rhode Island too, and did almost as well in New York and Connecticut.

Seems to me that outside of Delaware, conservatives actually moved away from Newt rather than towards him. Newt got 10 percent in NH back in January, and is getting 10 percent in NY now.

No he didn’t you need to go back and check the stats. Santorum really got waxed in PA. The very state where the voters know him so well. Romney 57% to RS 19% last I checked with 99% in

Yep, he finished second in PA. Doubled up on Newt despite withdrawing from the race.

Says it all, really. People prefer a withdrawn Santorum to a running Newt.

They have no stomach for the kind of battle Newt would take to Obama.

How's that for thinking about themselves and NOT America? All they had to do is $upport Newt and vote for him - he is the one who is doing the fighting surrounded by enemies. They couldn't even do that FOR AMERICA?

Those who died for our country put our country first and not 'their feelings'. The majority of Americans don't deserve America and voted to lose it in favor of socialism or communism. There is no one left to help them - he gave it his best shot and they didn't want America the Beautiful as they voted for America the Ugly/pro homo, same sex marriage, socialistic healthcare, anti-constitution evil candidate.

Now is the time to $upport Newt - the race is NOT over. Putting your hopes in the Senate/House is giving yourself false hope. If they can't get this right, everything else is mute.

Why would they vote for Santorum if he dropped out? I know you are sad Newt lost big and was doubled in Delaware. I will never shill for Myth.

But you guys are sounding embarrassing when you keep stating that you can guarantee everyone 100% that Newt will be the next President.

Please explain (considering California has yet to vote) how Newt will win this nomination?

I'm sorry if I sound rude but when Newt finished 4th in multiple states tonight behind a man who withdrew how is it possible that Newt will go from only winning one state and finishing last in about 90% of the primaries???

Santorum is still on the ballots. He suspended his election but the voters had the option of supporting HIM if they were truly behind him. He got beat up bad in his home state which usually goes with their "own" man. I am not embarrassed to have supported Newt and never will be..but I am ashamed of the gop and the way the primaries and this entire sham of a race has been orchestrated. http://www.cnn.com/election/2012/primaries/dates/20120424

'they couldn't'

Well when America isn't America isn't anymore - they can think about what they couldn't do as that turns into can't do anymore.

Their little sanctimonious selves own the evil they brought on this country and will be accountable for bringing one nation under God to one nation under evil.

You haven't answered my question. How is it possible for Newt to win the nomination. You and several others claim Newt will win.

And for any FReeper to say they will use Free Republic to demand people support and donate money to Obama will cause this site to lose 95% of its members which means there will be no money to fund this website.

I really hope the leadership makes a statement regarding FReepers who plan on campaigning for Obama on Free Republic. If this is what FR will be myself and thousands of others are out.

For a FReeper to say they will use this site to actively campaign FOR Obama is against everything that was listed when I signed up over a decade ago!!!

What does that really say about voters? Moreso about conservativism...or should I say those who say they are.

It's apparent conservativism is not their priority, nor the principles of....or they simply are fools for thinking that a single vote for Santorum would mean anything other than a no vote at all.

No different then me filling in the blank today with John Doe for alternative delegates....Santorum was no more than a name in a slot that counted for nothing at all.

What I don't understand is these are Freepers who voted against a 'running' conservative candidate by voting for Santorum.

I'm beginning to think there are many more foolish "informed" voters as there are who aren't.

Santorum finished 4th in Rhode Island; NY; CT; Delaware. Santorum finished 2nd in PA with only 19% of the vote to Romney's 57. Santorum “suspended” his campaign but remained on the ballot so he was still viable. He never endorsed anyone else...he knew he would get beat bad tonight but hoped against hope his supporters would show up..they didn't.
AS for Newt..I am not ashamed or embarrassed to have supported him but I am disgusted with the GOP.

You should be, because without your support, Romney could not have won. You had an opportunity to support a conservative who could have defeated Romney, and for whatever reason, you shied away from the fight when we needed you the most.

My hands are clean. In all likelihood, tonight ensures an Obama re-election. Now we have to wait four years because of a decision that you and many other conservatives made, and endure another 4 years of the Obama agenda.

Thank you for your efforts to preserve the Republic by not voting for Santorum.

Yeah, it’s impressive to see how many hate America - one nation under God giving it onto the hands of evil.

And impressive to see how many hate their God-given freedoms which there is no chance of reclaiming them.

Impressive to see how they hated America the Beautiful that they voted for America the Ugly/pro homo, same sex marriage, socialistic healthcare, anti-constitution evil candidate.

So mocked Newt all you want - because you will never get good, voting for evil. Enjoy your eternity as there is a place all ready for evil and those who support it. I’m sure you will find it impressive.

Santorum beat Newt in Pennsylvania.

My understanding is because of the media smear that Newt had dropped out....they figured they'd vote for Santorum and at least give him that for it being his home state.

IF you are insinuating I would ever campaign for Obama you are one sick fool. I told YOU that I am not or never will be ashamed of my support for Newt.
MY hope is the republicans win the senate and maintain the house and can block Obama but just because I refuse to vote for Romney sure as hell doesn’t mean I support Obama.
My hope was that Newt would have won Delaware and picked up momentum in NC. If he could have won 5 states he would have negotiating power at the convention in Tampa. In the meantime with the low voter turnout tonight and the news hitting on just how liberal Romney is..there is a chance some miracle may happen. BUT YOU are insane if you think I would vote Romney or Obama...an absolute fool

Is this the same Romney that was touted as the conservative candidate 4 years ago here when he was running against McCain? BTW, Santorum endorsed Romney, Newt will endorse Romney, as will Palin, Bachmann and Cain, I suppose they’ll be personae non gratae and will be flung under the conservative bus?

“It’s apparent conservativism is not their priority, nor the principles of....or they simply are fools for thinking that a single vote for Santorum would mean anything other than a no vote at all.”

It’s obvious to me. You have to work to earn the support of people, and Newt didn’t work to earn their support.

Speaks volumes, now what people have been saying since January, that Newt Gingrich could not beat Romney anywhere outside of the South.

To be fair, Newt did well in Delaware, and managed to convince Santorum supporters there to come over. Everywhere else, he did as well as he did in January, and in Rhode Island, he did even worse, losing core support to Romney.

Tonight would be a different night if Newt managed to establish himself as the anti-romney in the absence of Santorum. His failure to do so, raises questions to everyone as to where they should park their anti-Romney vote, since Newt failed to rise past Santorum or Paul.

I want to deny Romney delegates, and it’s clear to me that supporting Newt won’t acheive that end.

You had a choice, and the decision that you made then brought about a Romney victory now. Actions have consequences, and the consequence of your action has been proven tonight.

There were many people warning you and others, that choosing this path would lead to this result. Now it has come, you’ve had everything that you desired. A one on one head to head battle with Romney. The result? 5-0 and likely a delegate sweep for Romney.

Your man has shown that he is incapable of taking the fight to Romney successfully in the absence of Santorum. We warned you many months ago that this would be the result.

And you say we hate america? No, we were right. Newt could not win. Not against Romney outside of the south. The south alone is not enough.

Newt still needs 3 more state to win entry to the convention. So his battle now is to get those three out of AR, WV, NC, KY and TX. Five states of which he has to win 3.

and that is one thing I disagree with Newt on..I won’t vote for Romney. I will do a write in for Newt and vote on state issues but refuse to vote for a rino..make that a liberal.
I voted for McCain and won’t ever compromise my principles again..ever.
