Ricky Martin is set to host a fundraising event for Barack Obama to thank the US President for his support of gay rights.
The gay singer will team up with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Leadership Council and the Futuro Fund to host a benefit for the president at New York City's Rubin Museum of Art next month.
The 40-year-old popstar wants Obama to win a second term at this year's upcoming election, believing he will continue to show support for the LGBT community.
"I am proud to support our president. I believe Barack Obama has shown a deep conviction to help those most in need, even if their voices are not always the ones heard the loudest in Washington," the Daily Express quoted the singer as saying.
"He has also been an exceptionally strong advocate for the Latino and LGBT communities... With his actions, I believe the president has put the United States back on the right path and has earned the opportunity to finish the critical work that he has started," he added.

I remember Ricky Martin performing at Bush’s inaugural. When he got flack for it, he said it was just a gig and it’s not like he supported the President or anything! Horrors.

I started to write that “the royal physician should examine the king,” but this isn’t a topic for sarcasm. I’m entirely serious: the President of the (still) most powerful nation on earth may have a chemical addiction which threatens not only his life, but uncountable lives. If he is the male equivalent of a “crack whore,” I’m sorry for him. On other levels, I despise him, his works, and his ways, but hardly anyone deserves what the modern pharmacopoeia will do to him as he proceeds into his post-middle years. If he has lost control of his appetites, he needs nothing but time and treatment, starting as soon as possible. I won’t catalog even his recent bizarre behavior (as opposed to his earlier bizarre behavior), but disobeying the Congress to give the Palestinian Authority $192M “in service of US security interests” isn’t just a major lie: it’s madness.
