Barack Obama 'Making History' Again

America has had 43 presidents, but only a handful of them are considered truly great. First, of course, is the humble general and commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, George Washington, and certainly right behind him is Abraham Lincoln, who saved the Union and whose actions led to the abolition of slavery.

Then there was foundational figurehead Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the Declaration of Independence and doubled the size of the country; a surprising wartime leader named Harry Truman whose bold decision brought the end of WWII; and the incomparable Ronald Reagan, communism-buster and Cold War victor.

Now, after just three years, a new name is being bandied about as a possible addition to the short list of presidential notables, and that name is Barack Obama.

Recently, while campaigning for her husband's re-election in Omaha, Nebraska, Michelle Obama declared, "We made history." After less than one term, it might seem a bit premature to claim historical preeminence, but truth is, by being identified as America's first African-American/biracial president, Obama has in fact made history.

In addition to his initial achievement of surmounting racial prejudice, according to his wife Michelle, in less than one term, not only has the president led America "out of the dark and into the light," but his pioneering leadership has also catapulted him into the realm of presidential greatness.

Oddly enough, when backing up her "making history" claim, the first lady chose not to cite Obama's economic, foreign, or social policy endeavors. Instead, the first lady focused her attention on Obama's $950-billion signature legislation, the Affordable Healthcare for America Act.

Expounding upon the president's signature achievement, Michelle Obama said, "Two years ago, we made history together by finally passing health reform...

The Founding Fathers must be turning in their graves at the way Obama is trashing our Constitution.

I am VERY confident that the history books will have a lot to say about this Obama guy.

None of it will be good.

I predict Obama will live out his days in some turd-world country. Maybe his pal Hugo can rent him a room.

He’s made history alright: 1) First ineligible person to be fraudulently elected president of the U.S. 2) First president to be rated lower than Jimmy Carter. 3) Most racially devisive president in history. 4) First president to receive a noble peace prize who didn’t deserve it.

I don’t think Hugo Chevez can rent a room out to anyone unless it’s a room in Hell. Anybody seen Hugo lately?

All these great presidents were great because they adapted or subordinated whatever plans they may have had to be the kind of leader that the country needed at the time they were leading.

Reagan knew what his presidency was called to do, defeat communism. Lincoln knew what the country needed, to preserve the union. Even George W. Bush, who started out rather pacifist, knew what his presidency would be about on Sept 11, 2001, and turned on a dime to become that president.

Obama cannot be great because he hasn't done that. What the times called for was to fix the economy, and what he did was bring his laundry list of agenda items and greivances pre-prepared years ago and tried to force them onto the times.

Forcing healthcare onto a bankrupt country at this time will probably be seen as one of the worst policy blunders for a hundred years. We will remember him as a four year gap in time where our problems were not addressed at all in order to pursue vanity projects and pay off political allies.

Depends on who defines great. A man who makes the Great Satan fall and the survivors submit to islam would have his praises sung in every mosque for a millennium.

Well said. He had an agenda he was determined to carry out and a plunging economy wasn't going to get in the way, the country be damned.

Come November, we get a wack at the famous president that made her proud of her country for the first time. Let’s see how that comes out.

and certainly right behind him is Abraham Lincoln,

Stopped reading right there. The writer is obviously ignorant of history and constitutional principles, and not worthy of the time.

Obama killed Osama. That puts him at least on a level with FDR, who won WWII. After all, FDR didn’t kill Hitler.

There's a handful of great presidents. Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Reagan, and I'd argue McKinley and if you strictly judge by the job he's done, Harding as well. Coolidge gets credit for Harding's work. Either Roosevelt, Jackson, Polk, or Lincoln were great if you were on that side. They were effective.

Obama isn't worthy to shine any of their boots. He wasn't effective, or good, and isn't even a good manager. In my lifetime I'd rate from best to worse as Reagan, Bush II, Clinton, Bush I, Obama, and Carter, with Obama rapidly gaining on Obama.

First President to take credit for the work of hundreds of thousands of military and intelligence personnel in killing a high-value target and to use the killing of said target as a campaign feat.

The Catholic Church had a run of men who claimed to be the Pope who had not been duly elected. Some of them were not even priests. They are called anti-popes. Can we start calling 0bambi the anti-President?

Once again, position attained through color; not character, not accomplishment. Color is the only thing you got. And if color is the primary notable attribute we use to justify him being up there on the same platform as Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Truman, and Reagan, then the judging criteria has fallen from the noble heights of foundational principles of freedom down to juvenile, elementary preferences in colors.

You, Ms. Obama, are a child.
