The Ultimate Appeal to Persuade Fellow Blacks to Stop Voting Democrat
American Thinker ^ | 05/01/2012 | Lloyd Marcus

Posted on 05/01/2012 6:31:14 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Candidly, I have struggled with this for years -- how best to explain why I am a black conservative and why fellow black Americans should join me.

I served on a board with an extremely bright black mom. Both of her kids, a boy and a girl, are brilliant; her son received a full scholarship to Yale.

This black mom is well-read on "whiny" black liberal authors and philosophers. I am talking about the majority of black authors you see featured on mainstream TV. They sound extremely intellectual, explaining how white America is still systematically abusing blacks and why more heavily funded government programs are the answer. I feel like screaming at my TV, "Knock it off! Bottom line is you hate white people and are seeking more entitlement government freebies!" Such needy victim rhetoric has nothing to do with, nor does it achieve, real black empowerment. Frankly, these people turn my stomach.

As I said, the black mom is extremely well-read on victimhood-peddling black authors and has never heard of brilliant black conservatives Professor Walter Williams and Dr. Thomas Sowell.

Professor Walter E. Williams is an American economist and academic. He is the John M. Olin Distinguished Professor of Economics at George Mason University, as well as a syndicated columnist.

Dr. Thomas Sowell is an American economist, social theorist, political philosopher, and author of 30 books. Dr. Sowell is currently a Rose and Milton Friedman Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

Both these guys are about "real" black empowerment, teaching personal responsibility, education, hard work, and morality -- not the standard blacks-are-eternal-victims and white-America-owes-us garbage spouted by black pundits on TV. Thus, you never see Prof. Williams or Dr. Sowell on mainstream TV.

It’s becoming pretty clear, also, that without their standard voter fraud, they won’t be able to keep power, either.

There are estimates of anywhere from 3% to Jesse Jackson’s number of 11% of “voters” that will drop off if voter ID is enforced.

Look at the past elections, and subtract 5% from their vote total in every one of them and see where that leaves them.

It took a war to get blacks off the old Democrat plantations, and it took Socialism to get them onto the new Democrat plantations. They were well on their way to overcoming the legacy of slavery, but this generation won’t see blacks overcoming the legacy of welfarism and militancy. The left has bought and paid for them, body and mind.

“This is how the left (liberal media and Democrats) love to demean, discredit, and humiliate self-reliant, non-victim-minded blacks.”

I like THIS....AS IF Liberal politicians are all squeaky clean, sterling citizens who are the most clean-living and exemplary individuals....REALLY?????

You are right. Our conservative politicians have become “just another pack of panderers”. They are”Compassionate Conservatives”, whatever the hell that means.

>>There must be SOME way of getting messages like this out among Black groups....there MUST be.<<

Yes, there is a way. Just as Reagan went over the heads of Congress and spoke directly to the people to get his significant tax cuts enacted, someday a Republican President of the United States (not a candidate—the MSM will crucify a Republican candidate who tries this) will need to take the lead.

Lloyd Marcus’s best point is that the MSM refuses to publicize the achievements of conservative black Americans. Only the President can overcome that roadblock, and even he or she will struggle, but that’s what has to be done.

What should be the message delivered though? I’m not sure, but speaking directly to the mothers in the black population could be a good start. I suspect that, in the center cities, there isn’t a single mother who doesn’t justifiably fear for the lives of her children; not how their lives will turn out, but for their very lives.

“Are you sick of going to bed every night, or to work on a night shift, not knowing whether your child/children will be alive when you wake up or return from work in the morning?” That could be the attention grabber, the question that gets their attention.

After that, it’s education, and salesmanship. They’ve all answered “Yes!” to the first question. Next they need to hear information that has them nodding their heads throughout. “Are you married?,” “Would your life be better if your family was intact?,” “Are you on welfare?,” “Does welfare discourage you from working, or from achieving an intact family?,” etc.

Then explain how federal policies have worked against them for years. Leave the Democrats out of it. Just explain that welfare policies have destroyed the black family, etc. At this point, bring in the Thomas Sowell’s and Lloyd Marcus’s of the the world, so they can see that black people holding such thoughts actually exist. Don’t label them Republican; just let them share the platform of ideas. The MSM will have little choice but to cover black leaders standing with the President directly addressing the black mothers of America.

Next, propose policy changes and link their purpose directly to the betterment of the black family in America. Through all of this, the MSM will fight back, but they will have no choice but to cover it. A Republican President has to go over the heads of the MSM and directly to the black family, and particularly to the mothers of those families. If the mothers are convinced, they will begin to teach the children.

And it wouldn’t be a bad idea for that President to advocate for legalization of marijuana at the same time, since the drug wars are responsible for so many of those mothers’ children’s deaths. A Republican President advocating legalization would also be impossible for the MSM to ignore, but the message should be linked directly to saving the lives of the children of those black mothers.

On balance it’s likely that the black fathers are a lost cause; far too many of them are just indoctrinated children who’ve graduated to lives of dealing dope, robbery, gang life and jail. The key lies in reaching the mothers of black children and only a President will be able to pull it off. Unfortunately, President Obama could have easily been that President, but instead he chose to divide, consigning black mothers to more of the same despair they’re dealt with for decades already.

I look at it this way. If a Republican or a conservative candidate is attracting black voters in large numbers then he must not be espousing conservative values. You cannot have your cake and eat it. Blacks are the core of the democrat party and they are the constituency of that party that moves it to leftist extremes. True conservatives among them are welcome but they are few and far between. The best a Republican candidate can hope for is that they do not show up at the polls in large numbers.

There must be SOME way of getting messages like this out among Black groups....there MUST be.

I'm sure there is, but someone brighter than I am, will have to figure it out.

I consider myself lucky not to have been permanently infected by the spiritual pathology that is epidemic in that culture. I was only spared by the good fortune of being born an Army brat, so grew up in an entirely different sub-culture than that of my relatives.

Still, the pull and attraction of familial and close cultural ties was strong enough, that I was nearly sucked in. At least a couple of my siblings were.

Like Lloyd, I've pondered on a solution to healing the illness that afflicts the black community, but have found that there's no easy answer. As someone upthread commented, it will probably take a complete reset of the whole American culture to snap the majority of blacks out of their poisonous state of mind.

In the meantime, there are lots of black conservative groups that are doing their very best to show others the way.

and if having a black president is so all fired important, why didn’t they vote for Alan Keyes?

Keyes wouldn't promise them free stuff.

As I see it a good part of the problems is the connections of the black leadership.

For Example.
B Obama is married to Michelle Robinson Obama.(Her relatives just like JJs came from the same Friendship Plantation area of South Carolina.

There is a connection (possible blood relationship) between MO with Jesse Robinson Jackson. (Michelle spent enough time as a youth in the JJ home to be called Sis by the siblings)

JJ’s biological father (a professional boxer in his youth) and half-brother is Noah Robinson. Noah, the half bro, is doing life in prison because of his connection to the Chicago Street gang El Rukn.

If my map is correct the El Rukn gang (drugs, prostitution, murder for hire) controlled the territory that BO served in as community organizer.
J
Then there is Uncle Louis F. who gave Rezko his first job keeping the boxer Mo Ali in line (Wonder if he knew JJ’s father Noah the professional boxer)

So the politicians that float to the top are top thugs all intertwined in the neighborhood. Don't think republicans/conservatives want that criteria to be our goal.
Those who live under the control of gangs, thugs and politicians are not freemen. They do what they do in order to survive just as the slaves on the plantations.

Education and movement out of the cities/hoods is the answer. Break the ties. As long as the democrats keep them uneducated and in line with fear they win.

This is all well and good, and I applaud it. But I continue to marvel at the utter avoidance of moral issues when it comes to Black politics. The Black liberals make economic arguments and Black conservatives respond with economic counterarguments.

I can only assume that, when it comes to politics, moral issues don't exist for most Blacks. And that's the real tragedy.

There have been some excellent points made regarding black needs and the situation of black families as a result of liberal policies. But conservatives could easily forego the entire black population and still control our government. IF we had the unified support of the WHITE community.

So by all means appeal to black voters; they are certainly victims of liberalism’s failures. But so are whites. Address the damage those policies have done to the white middle class! Show ignorant white voters that liberalism just means enabling irresponsible blacks to vote themselves a share of YOUR paycheck! Do you want your children to go without so that Democrats can keep another generation of blacks chained to dependency? That “solution” benefits neither blacks nor whites.

In dialectical terms, synthesize the commonalities of both black and white communities into a whole greater than the sum of the parts. And discard the outliers who want to keep the ineffective, divisive status quo.

Unfortunately, the first thing he has to do is to get them to listen and blacks have been so conditioned to believe that Republicans are racists that they won’t even consider that the information they have been getting is wrong.

Kudos! You are a common sense thinker and you focus on solutions. Excellent!

What I see as your strongest point is the focus on direct communication with mothers (and I would add grandmothers). Generally, they really DO want what is best for these children.

;-)

Thank you for a positive, results-oriented post.
