Gingrich: Romney’s ‘Conservative Enough’ Compared To ‘Most Radical, Leftist Pres in American Hist'

While formally suspending his bid for the Republican presidential nomination on Wednesday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said that he believes presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney is conservative enough when compared to “the most radical, leftist president in American history.”

“And my answer is simple: compared to Barack Obama?

You know this is not a choice between Mitt Romney and Ronald Reagan. This is a choice between Mitt Romney and the most radical, leftist president in American history.”

My state is not in play so why does it matter?

You make some claims worth considering, though your last one is misleading (”Electing a liberal and expecting him to act as a conservative...” — I never said I was expecting that. What I expect is that Obama will act even worse.)

“Allowing Romney to pull the country further left by appointing liberal justices to SC to replace Kennedy and Scalia, justices who would never retire if Obama is elected, is not a principle I’d wish to support.” I wouldn’t like that either. I think the opposite is more likely, though — that people would settle for a worst nominee from Obama than from Romney because they’d figure that would be the best they can get. As for holding off retirement, yes, those justices might do that, but sometimes death or disability can’t be avoided.

Also I’m not at all sure that after four more years of Obama the right will have enough strength to stage a comeback. I won’t say I expect that Obama will install a regime like the one in Venezuela (though I don’t rule it out under extreme circumstances). I do believe, though, that he’ll take steps to suppress dissent on the right and to undermine our individual freedom that Romney wouldn’t take. As for the military and foreign policy, I’d rather have Romney in charge than Obama.

“a worst nominee” — I meant “a worse nominee”

Tell me about the non liberal judges Obama will appoint.

Others have said it...the Senate has the power to stop liberal judges in their tracks.

But it takes 41 votes, and guts.

No deals, swaps, trades offs, gangs of seven, etc.

Just stop them before they get on the court.

IF Romney were to win, and if he were so stupid as to appoint such people, he would be stopped by a Senate with the aforementioned.

If we can’t get a Senate like that in place, then hold their feet to the fire on every such vote, then might as well GIVE UP.

You try to shut down rational discussion by verbally savaging anyone who dares say Obama must not get another term.

Both Romney and Obama are despicable pols.

I agree with Newt that of the two, a second Obama term is far more dangerous.

He has the goods and the juice on his side with that analysis, more so than some character on the net named montanajoe.

THat analysis doesn’t make me any of your ugly name calling.

And I’m not afraid of your scorched verbal earth.

As my previous post to you and others made clear, I won’t vote for Romney. Texas will vote to oust Obama, without my vote. And in our now irrelevant primary, I will either not vote on that line, or I will vote for Ron Paul, whom I also find reprehensible but who has no chance.

Love Rick Perry, love Newt, but I will vote for a ballot name that hasn’t dropped out.

I have sympathy for those of conscience in swing states who believe as Newt, and myself, that a second Obama term is a deathknell, who vote against Obama by voting Mitt yet with utter disgust at the choice.

Therefore unlike you I will never attack such people.

I tell everyone, vote as you believe is right for you. Do not allow others to bully and intimidate you. No matter which decision you reach.

Exactly.

It would be the same as pulling the trap door at your own hanging.

I think I’ll chance the calvary of a growing conservative base bleeding up through local and state elections replacing RINO’s who pick empty suits like Romney.

To allow someone who hates this country any opportunity to be reelected is beyond understanding.

I do not believe Romney hates America.

No, Romney doesn’t hate America.

That doesn’t mean he isn’t despicable as a politician...to me he clearly is.

However, Obama clearly hates this country and is determined to turn it into Venezuela and himself into Hugo Chavez.

I can’t in good conscience take a pass on that responsibility. I don’t have to choose because I know my state, and it will be ABO.

But for those who live where polls could show the race tied, and where it would likely tip the balance to another term for the America hater/destroyer, I will never attack them for strategic voting against Obama.

Nor will I attack others who can’t bring themselves to do that. If they can’t, they can’t.

Thanks for weighing in.
