The cradle-to-grave, government-supported existence of “Julia” (Obama's imaginary beneficiary)

Today's buzz surrounds the rollout of yet another composite character from the imagination of Barack Obama, this one named "Julia" Julia represents the arc of a life under the beneficent care of Barack Obama's policies. Interestingly, at every stage of Julia's life, a government program exists to shield her from life's woes. And just as interestingly, Julia never gets the bill for all of this government hand-holding.

Let's present a more realistic view of Julia's life:

There you have it — a timeline filled with government interventions in a fantasy lifetime, with absolutely no sense of the cost it would take to provide Government Nanny to Julia and the rest of the country. At least they picked the right name for their fantasy woman trapped in an all-encompassing government; Julia was the name of the lead female character in George Orwell’s 1984, after all.

One point jumps out at me from Obama’s “Julia.” Not once in this timeline does Team Obama mention anything about a second Obama term. There isn’t one new policy or proposal in it. For a campaign with the slogan “Forward,” that seems a little odd. Just when does Obama plan on discussing his vision of a second term … December?

David Harsanyi blasts the nanny-state mentality that believes this scenario is cause for celebration:

In the new Barack Obama campaign piece The Life of Julia, voters can “Take a look at how President Obama’s policies help one woman over her lifetime — and how Mitt Romney would change her story.” It is one of the most brazenly statist pieces of campaign literature I can ever remember seeing.

Let’s, for the purposes of this post, set aside the misleading generalizations regarding policy in the ad (no one is innocent on that account, obviously). What we are left with is a celebration of a how a woman can live her entire life by leaning on government intervention, dependency and other people’s money rather than her own initiative or hard work. It is, I’d say, implicitly un-American, in the sense that it celebrates a mindset we have — outwardly, at least — shunned.

It is also a mindset that women should find offensively patronizing. When they’re old enough, I hope my two daughters will find the notion that their success hinges on the president’s views on college-loan interest rates preposterous. Yet, according to the “Life of Julia,” women are helpless without the guiding hand of Barack Obama.

Plus there’s this parting shot:

If you think Social Security benefits allow you to live your retirement without worry, you deserve Barack Obama.

If you think Social Security will still be around under the leadership of Obama and Geithner, you have a screw loose.

Update: Cranky T-Rex offers an alternative, the Life of Julianne:

3 Years Old
Julianne’s parents read to her every night. They take time to play games with her that teach her how to count and how to solve problems. When they enroll her in kindergarten she’s ready to learn and succeed.

17 Years Old
Julianne excels in school thanks to her parents’ active involvement in her life. Her mother is a stay at home mom that carefully monitors Julianne’s homework and grades throughout her scholastic tenure. Her father takes practice SAT tests with her and encourages her to work hard.

18 Years Old
Julianne’s parents have put part of their yearly salary towards a college fund for her ever since she was born. They also encouraged her to get a part-time job in high school and required her to contribute part of her paycheck to the fund. As a result, Julianne can afford the college of her choice.

22 Years Old
During college, Julianne requires emergency surgery. She is covered by her insurance, which she can afford because it is a low-premium package designed specifically for this kind of unexpected expense. She pays for it with the part-time job she got the first week she arrived on campus.

Be sure to read it all.

Update II: Suitably Flip reworks the graphics to depict the life of Julie under Mitt Romney. It’s graphic and not excerptable, but you’ll want to see the whole thing anyway.

The dems are so creative ( must have come from the mind of a creative writing grad ) that they could come up with this composite character.

Why can’t we have a creative conservative who will now come up with another composite character named — SALLY — the hardworking tax payer who Obama says isn’t paying enough of her taxes to support the likes of Julia?

C’mon use your imagination.

12 weeks old: yet to be named fetus, regarded by unmarried, unemployed mother as a lump of cells, is killed at mother’s request by Obama funded Planned Parenthood clinic doctor. Fetus’ rights are denied by Obama’s 100% support for anytime abortion.

The overall theme of all lib-leftist dreamers:

government is great, government is good, big government is even better. You're too stupid and weak to do anything on your own. You need big government to guide you and support you cradle-to-grave. So, unworthy little worm, sign up on the Big Government Forever platform, and we will take care of all your needs.

... at every stage of Julia's life, a government program exists to shield her from life's woes.

Including the Planned Parenthood abortion Julia's mother had believing it was what Dear Reader wanted to prevent a drag on the environment and economy.

Alas, Team Obama has omitted a few milestones from the life of Julia:

4 months: Julia’s mother decides that giving birth will be hard on her figure. She kills Julia. Under Barack Obama, her right to do so is absolutely nonnegotiable.

10 years: Trapped in a failing and dangerous public school, Julia (another Julia, not the dead one) is terrified and miserable. Under the Obama administration, protecting the government education monopoly from competition and accountability is almost as sacrosanct as abortion. School-choice programs are severely constrained or eliminated. Julia falls behind.

21 years: After barely completing her high-school degree in her god-awful school, Julia goes looking for a job. There aren’t many, especially for people without college degrees. Julia kicks around the food-service and hospitality industries for a while, and ends up getting a job as a bartender. Even at her relatively low level of income, she pays a host of direct and indirect taxes to help subsidize Obama donors and supporters at politically connected businesses. She can’t quite figure out why President Obama’s pet millionaires and billionaires need her money more than she does.

22 years: After working in the bar for a while, Julia decides she likes it and wants to open her own place. But she’ll need capital to get that done. Under Obama, there is little or no credit available to small entrepreneurs, because we never got around to fixing the problems in the banking system, instead choosing to futz around with things like the disclosures on credit-card offers and micromanaging swipe fees and grandstanding about bonuses. Julia does not open her new business, and she doesn’t hire any other Julias to build, decorate, supply, or staff it.

23 years: Being a bartender, Julia works late at night. Under Obama, the federal government supports laws that make it difficult or impossible for a private citizen to own a gun in many places. Leaving her bar one night, the defenseless Julia is killed in the street. Ironically, the gun used to kill her was sold to a Mexican drug cartel under a program run by President Obama’s Department of Justice.

57 years: Julia (different Julia, not one of the dead ones) has been paying very high taxes for most of her life, mainly to support three federal programs: Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. In fact, the payroll tax diverts about 12 percent of her income — income she might have saved — into the entitlements. Under President Obama, stubborn refusal to reform these unsustainable entitlements means that the programs have to be radically cut or entirely eliminated, and Julia and her whole generation get hosed in spite of the fact that they have been taxed for decades under the phony promise that they were “paying into” the programs. The only alternative to massive cuts was an 88 percent increase in all federal taxes, which already have been rising to offset costs from Obamacare, which were wildly underestimated.

88 years: Julia (different Julia) passes away in 2022. And she got out just in time: Policies adopted by the Obama administration sent the national debt to $71,000 per person and climbing.
