Arlo Guthrie - City of New Orleans

The City of New Orleans by Steve Goodman

Riding on the City of New Orleans, Illinois Central Monday morning rail Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders, Three conductors and twenty-five sacks of mail. All along the southbound odyssey The train pulls out at Kankakee Rolls along past houses, farms and fields. Passin' trains that have no names, Freight yards full of old black men And the graveyards of the rusted automobiles.

CHORUS: Good morning America how are you? Don't you know me I'm your native son, I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans, I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done.

Dealin' card games with the old men in the club car. Penny a point ain't no one keepin' score. Pass the paper bag that holds the bottle Feel the wheels rumblin' 'neath the floor. And the sons of pullman porters And the sons of engineers Ride their father's magic carpets made of steel. Mothers with their babes asleep, Are rockin' to the gentle beat And the rhythm of the rails is all they feel.

CHORUS

Nighttime on The City of New Orleans, Changing cars in Memphis, Tennessee. Half way home, we'll be there by morning Through the Mississippi darkness Rolling down to the sea. And all the towns and people seem To fade into a bad dream And the steel rails still ain't heard the news. The conductor sings his song again, The passengers will please refrain This train's got the disappearing railroad blues.

Good night, America, how are you? Don't you know me I'm your native son, I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans, I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done.

Evening Kathy, Hugs.

Saturday night, we had a hail storm.. Recovering my bedding plants I got clubbed in the shoulder with golf ball sized hail in the shoulder.. left an ugly bruise about the size of a baseball.

Solly knocked me on my fanny.. She was wanting to play leader of the pack with the neighbor’s dogs. She also left quite the raised rope burn in my fingers as she sliced her lead through my fingers a 80 mph.

Big ole bruise inside my left ankle from the fall.. Also a scraped and bloody toe.

Going back to work will be a cake walk, no matter how many copper head bites.

Had to have Mr. Taz dig a tick off my back...Jeepers, I shudder at the thought.

Oh my gosh, Taz...((HUGS))...what an adventure you’ve had. Glad you are still standing, sort of. Besides damage to you, any other damage to house and home and cars?

Do your rope-burned fingers hurt to type?

AND A TICK????? Where did you manage to get that?

Work should be a safe place. d:o)

True country girl! Ticks aren’t all that hard to come by when you’re out in the weeds. Good thing you had Mr. Taz check you out - ticks can be nasty little buggers.

Side of the house at Runamuck, facing south west got banged all to hell.

Our new roof held up though.

When we got in tonight we de-oaked the drive from all the leaves and clusters the hail banged out of the neighbor’s tree.

I souce myself with sun screen and deep woods’s off before I go out. .This one made it’s way past my defenses.

Evening Jinxy, Hugs.

We have been a true team the past few days.

Soil up there is as rocky as a graveled drive way.. We had 1 single axle dump truck of compost and top soil delivered.

We shoveled like convicts leveling it.

Tazman tilled it up and then we both shoveled out the lanes to make raised beds...5 foot x 45 foot x 3 beds.

Mucho work done the past few days.

Tick transgression so far looks fine.
