A United Nations investigator probing discrimination against Native Americans has called on the US government to return some of the land stolen from Indian tribes as a step toward combatting continuing and systemic racial discrimination. James Anaya, the UN special rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples, said no member of the US Congress would meet him as he investigated the part played by the government in the considerable difficulties faced by Indian tribes.

As usual, the UN continues to thing with its rear end. Almost all of the tribal land land claims have been compensated by the United States, though a few may still be undergoing appeal. And there is a mechanism for tribes to bring up additional claims, should they be warranted.

The United States has done a lot to try to rectify some historically unjust things it did to Indian tribes. The United Nations, on the other hand, would put tribes in the position of ravishing the United States of America, though I admit there are some Indian people who would like to do so.

As a four-quarters American Indian (I reject the Native American designation), I want the United Nations to know and understand that we have tribal lawyers and attorneys who can actually read and write, and we don't need the UN pirates and bandits and terrorists to speak for us. We will speak for ourselves, do it in English, and do it much better than UN foreigners.
