A Mormon in the White House
New York Post ^ | May 5, 2012 | Maureen Callahan

-snip-

62% [of mormons] say that Americans are “uninformed” about the religion. Yet the reluctance of most Mormons to discuss their beliefs and customs with non-members only adds to secular suspicion that the church is a cult.

-snip-

Romney would also be assigned two “home teachers” — fellow Mormons who live in his vicinity and would visit with Romney once a month, probably in the White House, to counsel him on his faith and general emotional state

-snip-

Less than two hours after my visit — despite giving staffers only my first name and filling out no paperwork — I was startled to get a voicemail on my cellphone from someone identifying himself as a prophet, saying that he’d like to “start interceding for your life” and asking me to call an 800 number to join a prayer circle.

-snip-

says that she specifically asked to be moved to [Sen. Harry] Reid’s Maryland chapel, because she has a relative who’s gay and her former place of worship housed some older, bigoted congregants.

She’ll be worshipping with Brother Romney should he win. Even if he loses, however, author Feldman thinks that his nomination itself is a watershed moment.

“That so many Americans don’t know he’s a Mormon, and that his religion wasn’t a factor in this primary — as it was four years ago — that’s directional,” he says. “ It’s a historically significant moment, and it’s progress. We’re improving as a country.”

There’s “official” Mormonism with its clean if severe living ideals, then there is nod-and-wink Mormonism. Mitt is more characterized by the second.

Mitt? Are you kidding? Mitt Romney is not a just a pew-sitter, he is a true blue believer. This is a man who truly thinks the silliness of Mormonism is the true gospel. Once Mitt is finished in politics, he is on fast-track to the First Presidency.

I am a member of the church and I am no liberal. By the way most members I know vote Republican. Yes, some do vote Democrat. Isn't that what freedom is about. Also, I have never heard church leaders telling us who to vote for. Also, don’t call me a Mittbot, it is a waste of your time. I voted for Santourum in the primary.

This choice this November is clear. I'll be voting "ABO", and if I have to, I'll crawl over glass to do it.

Same here.

Have never had a reason to fear the 'Muslim next door'; and their is no CAIR-type organization (with terrorist links) to insure we 'get along'. . .

The problem with Myth is he’s a liar.

He’s no better than Obama — in ways, he’s worse.

I won’t vote for him, no matter what.

There is a 94-98% chance you did vote for Romney in the primary, good for you that you broke the mold. My lds family with few exceptions are democrats, they are all liberals.
mormonism by its very nature is liberal, that's how it as founded.
Again, if you are different good for you.
Since SLC lds corporation is supporting Romney no need to overtly say “vote Romney”.

How does some priest from some other church know what I believe? Secondly, of course there is denial, because the priest is either lying or spouting off lies he was told.

Obama is WAY too cozy with the mooselimbs...and when they achieve significant numbers in the US, look out...

I'm sure that I'll have to duck for cover after this but here goes...

I am very troubled by Obama's behavior with Muslims, however, I am pretty skeptical that he is in a conspiracy with them. A true Muslim would never call out attention to the Armenian Christian genocide perpetrated by the Turkish Muslims and publicly condemn it like Obama recently did. The captured materials from Osama bin Laden's lair certainly painted Obama as an enemy of Islam and in no way a sympathizer.

Do I wish Obama would be more active in protecting Christians from Muslim attacks around world today? Do I wish he'd oppose Sharia? Will I be happy when Obama leaves office? Hell, yes! (My joy in seeing Obama voted out of office this November would be mostly mitigated, however, when I see Mitt Romney sworn in. That's like the doctor telling you the surgery to remove the fatal cancerous tumor was totally successful but it was just discovered you have ALS.)

Already the most irrelevant, tiresome saying of 2012,

Especially as a childish remark on threads about Mormonism, that is the kind of mindless one liner that makes up about 95% of DU posting.

Here’s an accurate discription of why Mormonism is considered a cult and why mainstream Christianity sees them as that.

What is a cult?

According to Janja Lalich, Ph.D., and Michael Langone, Ph.D. of the non-profit research network...” International Cultic Studies Association”

‘A cult is characterized by the following patterns’ ....ALL of which apply to Mormonism:

Summary:

> “The group displays excessively zealous and unquestioning commitment to its leader, whether he is alive or dead, regards his belief system, ideology, and practices as the Truth, as law.”

> “Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.”

> “Mind-altering practices such as : chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, and debilitating work routines, are used in excess and serve to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s).”

> “The leadership dictates, sometimes in great detail, how members should... think, act, and feel....for example: members must get permission to date, change jobs, marry or leaders prescribe what types of clothes to wear, where to live, whether or not to have children, how to discipline children, and so forth.”

> “The group is ‘elitist’,... claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s) and members. For example: the leader is considered the Messiah, a special being, an avatar—or the group and/or the leader is on a special mission to save humanity.”

> “The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which may cause conflict with the wider society.”

> “The leader is not accountable to any authorities unlike, for example: teachers, military commanders or ministers, priests, monks, and rabbis of mainstream religious denominations.”

> “The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify whatever means it deems necessary. This may result in members’ participating in behaviors or activities they would have considered reprehensible or unethical before joining the group..For example: lying to family or friends, or collecting, money for bogus charities.”

> “The leadership induces feelings of shame and/or guilt in order to influence and/or control members. Often, this is done through peer pressure and subtle forms of persuasion.

> “ Subservience to the leader or group requires members to cut ties with family and friends, and radically alter the personal goals and activities they had before joining the group.”

> “The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members.”

> “The group is preoccupied with making money.”

> “Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group and group-related activities.”

> “Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members.”

> “The most loyal members (the “true believers”) feel there can be no life outside the context of the group. They believe there is no other way to be, and often
fear reprisals to themselves or others if they leave ,or even consider leaving. the group.”

Would’t you agree that Mitt Romney’s devotion to the Mormon faith is a salient factor in his ability to lead the United States of America?

What would happen if Mitt Romney had to make an important decision, say, about nuclear war. How do you think he would decide?

He would decide the same way that the Book of Mormon commanders-in-chief decided: ......He would ask the Mormon Prophet/President what God wanted him to do......... The U.S. President will be following the orders of the Mormon President. ......After all, Romney has already sworn on his life to obey his Priesthood leaders, especially the Mormon President, ....who supposedly holds God-given authority over the entire population of the Earth.

Is that who you want in charge of pushing the red button?

I thought you were going to describe Mormonism specifically, but many of these could equally describe several religions, including Catholicism.

Already the most irrelevant, tiresome saying of 2012,

and also, there is a difference in who you would expect either major party to nominate. The rats running a muslim-leaning homo marxist does not = therefore the religion of the [R] candidate isn't a big deal. Obamao has already been defined - and was still elected. Mormonism has not defined itself sufficiently (and intentionally IMO) so the press will go ahead and take care of that, much to the chagrin of Mormonism supporters, Romney supporters, and even the ABO camp. Along with a host of other factors - Mormonism will have to be accepted as mainstream for Romney to win, and that's not going happen. What will happen is the exact opposite and this article is just a part of the first wave of that. One of the worst candidates possible has been annointed when there was a strong chance to take out Obamao.

Even though I preferred Gingrich or Santorum I’m gladly on board with Romney now. If for no other reason than to observe all the bitterness, crying and whining by certain bigots on FR. Can’t beat that kind of entertainment. lol.

Some of what the ‘Mormon political agenda’ contains and how they generally see it if they are even aware..many aren’t let alone the general public the leadership is very adapt at concealing what they do:

Most Mormons believe that it is ‘their destiny’ for a Mormon to become President of the USA and he will ‘rule’ and bring in ...’a United Socialist Order.” ...aka New World Order ...’under their control’...or at the very least a strong participant in a place of leadership and control.

Thus Romney will, by the dictates of the leadership of this organization, definately march with the Globalists...but his agenda will be masked until the stage is set.

The goals of the church are in fact a benevolent dictatorship.”........”If they form a dictatorship, they would institute ‘a United Order’,... which is a communistic form of government where the church owns all the property..... They already own almost 90% of the farmland in Florida.... and they are chewing up farmland all over the U.S. .....The desire is to control the U.S. food supply.”

We’ve often heard Glen Beck reference preparation for what is to come..but behind that “warning” he is very much in the loop of the LDS agenda for “World Unity” under the Mormon leadership.

“Mormon leaders are ‘deliberately ‘keeping from the public...and even their membership... the true history of their religion because they will know that you will have a hard time believing it is from God,”....... states ‘Sandra Tanner, great great granddaughter of Brigham Young and former Mormon’........ ....

she continues........”Their faith is rooted in the ‘esoteric realm’... and occult symbols lavish their Temples..... No crosses adorn any of their Temples, but they do ‘contain dozens of inverted pentagrams’. ....Mormon Temples are full of Masonic witchcraft and occult symbols........The Mormon faith is one of the ultimate deceptions due to their ability to put up a fasade and contend that they are Christians.

.....Active members of the church have no idea what the real truth is......the general membership are completely ignorant to facts and are, for the most part, very good people who have been deceived in what many have called ....”the cruelest hoax of all”.

I disagree....the Pope and other religious leaders are not running for President.....that makes a huge difference.

As for other religions falling into what is considered a cult...the Mormon religion hits 'every single one'....others may be like or have a few similarities... but none as the Mormon church....and that with a political agenda.

Being careful to observe that it is the natural response of Mormons to divert the attention to "other" churches.....rather than defend their own. We see Romney doing likewise when he is cornered....and using the same tactics familiar to most Mormons.

Further they are taught and is the habit to utilize many tactics....of which I'm aware. So let's not divert this to other cults or false religions...we are discussing Mormons..and Romney's Presidential race..
