Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and opposition chairman MK Shaul Mofaz (Kadima) reached a surprise agreement early Tuesday morning to form a national unity government. The move came as the Knesset was preparing to disperse for early elections, which were expected to be scheduled for September 4. Under the agreement, Kadima will join Netanyahu's government and commit to supporting its policies through the end of its term in late 2013. Mofaz is expected to be appointed deputy prime minister, as well as minister without portfolio.

WTF??? Kadima traitors? The party of that douchebag Lipni? This can’t be good.
I generally find Israeli politics difficult to follow. Is there any reason to think think that competing politicians sense that the nation of Israel is about to enter a fight for its existence, and that petty political squabbles should be put aside?
The kind of thing that they do when war is about to start?
That was my first thought too.
There aren’t many stronger unifying agents than external threats. The Japanese Empire even unified Chang and Mao for a time.
One certainly hopes so!
Going by what we see here in America, no.
Can you imagine the scumbag Democrats putting the nation ahead of their lust for political power? I can't. Never.
My take is that Israel is not going to attack Iran this year, and probably will never attempt to stop their nuke program with overt military action.
This unity government comes as a little bit of surprise to me though, anyone who really knows the situation can shed more light on it?
The kind of thing that they do when war is about to start?
Yep...pretty much I’d say.
Nuke sites about to be MOABed and Mullas might be microwaved. I love the smell of roasting turbans early in the morning...
Not sure how soon ...or later toward the election...but I don’t think Be-BE is going to wait around for Obamas permission either way.
Agree
Shaul Mofaz is a former IDF general, former Defense Minister and is of Persian Jewish descent and speaks fluent Farsi. He may be a lefty in some aspects of economics but IIRC he was an a** kicker when it came to Israel’s defense.
I think the Persian Jewish community is going to play a vital role in Israel’s unraveling of the Mullah’s schemes and the liberation of Iran from their theocracy.
I’ll leave you all to speculate how that might play out.
