ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
Police said they caught a home invasion suspect moments after he was shot while breaking into a home Tuesday morning.
According to police, Raymond Hills, 25, fled from the Elizabeth Township home just after 4:30 a.m. when 84-year-old Fred Ricciutti shot him with the German Luger he used in the Korean War.
"I said 'Halt, who's there?'" said Ricciutti. "I'm thinking, friend or foe, he shouldn't be there that time of day."
Ricciutti said he was awoken when he heard Hiles breaking in through an unlocked kitchen window. When he confronted the intruder standing in his doorway, Ricciutti fired.
The bullet grazed Hiles in the back of the neck, as well as a door and storm door window.
Ricciutti said he then called police, and Hiles was caught a few blocks away from Ricciutti's home.
According to police, Hiles had a screwdriver and stun gun on him when Elizabeth Township police arrested him.
Officials said Hiles was taken to jail Tuesday wearing a bandage on his neck from the bullet wound.
Authorities said they don't plan on filing any charges against Ricciutti.
"Ever notice how you come across somebody once in a while you shouldn't have f****d with? That's me."

Yeah....probably in his last story he referred to a Daisy BB Gun as an UZI, so he was just trying to be ‘safe’ here.
The one ‘story’ (in the comments) of the guy ‘finding’ a Luger on the battle field does sound plausible but don’t count on the ‘reporter’ thinking along these lines.
Getting like these murderous “SUV’s” on the highways attacking other motorists and running red lights.
It’s a shame he didn’t use an M1.

Chinese troops early on had German equipment, bought in the 30s. Seen pictures of chinese troops in German Stahlhelms and feldgrau wermacht-style uniforms.
ChiComs could have had them, after they ran the Nationalist troops out.
He could have captured it from some ChiCom “volunteer”, or taken it off his corpse. I’ve also seen vintage C-96 Broomhandle Mausers that were issued to the Chinese.
Anything’s possible, I suppose...
The other possibility is that it was his own personal weapon that he took along with him.
Where he got it from is the story.
Korea, Viet Nam and I think (not sure) even Iraq and Afgan troops could use personal weapons.
The article says Lugar so it could have been an M1 Garand.

My old man was WWII airborne, and he brought back a Luger and a Walther P38 as well.
I’d think, though, that something of that nature, i.e., a war trophy, would be something that you’d NOT want to lose, though, or even expose to the possibility of losing, by taking it into another war zone.
At any rate, glad he put one in the perp. That’ll teach his ass to mess with one of “The Greatest Generation”...
After WWII there was a profusion of P08 Lugers in the US.
The Germans decided to phase them out, ending production in 1942, and switching to the Walther P38. So by the end of the war, there was a huge collection of P08’s that needed to be disposed of. Since many were in reasonably good condition, they were imported and sold in the US.
Since a lot of the Korean War soldiers had gone into the Reserves after WWII, they snapped up a lot of these Lugers as mementos. Then, when Korea happened, they brought them along with to have in addition to their rifle.
Good chance it was is personal side arm and it was the one he had.
