Analysis
WASHINGTON -- Public opinion about gay marriage has changed so rapidly that President Obama's historic embrace of it may pose as many political risks to Republicans as to the president and his fellow Democrats.
The president's dramatic shift on the issue -- a watershed moment in U.S. politics, even if many people felt it was inevitable -- is the latest sign that Democratic hopes increasingly rest on younger, college-educated and largely urban voters, whose lifestyles are shaped by social mobility more than religious and community traditions. Many young adults find the notion of discriminating against gays and lesbians as incomprehensible as their parents' and grandparents' accounts of living through racial segregation.
Yet same-sex marriage remains provocative in some places, including once-reliably Republican states such as North Carolina, where Obama won a narrow but stunning victory in 2008. Only hours before his Wednesday announcement on ABC News, North Carolina voters turned out in huge numbers to approve a constitutional ban on gay marriage.

The AP is entitled to its fantasies, which it publishes in place of news. My bet is that Obama loses in November.
ROTFL! Yup!
Just say NO to drugs.
Asspress always talks about what a loser social issues are. Now look at them. Obama can’t run on the economy, even with the press saying how great things are.
On the surface, the issue may appear to be a wash since the country is fairly evenly divided. But we've had less than a decade where this sh*t has become law in a handful of exotic atypical states, some by legislative vote (New Hampshire), some by judicial fiat (Iowa).
Give it a little more time and you will see lawsuits wanting to legalize polygamy and other alternative forms of marriage make their way through the courts. This will be followed by the pink mafia wanting to silence opponents or even force them to perform gay marriages. When that happens, around 80% of the current supporters will wake up and realize it was never about marriage rights. It was about giving the homo lobby the right to redefine marriage and reshape society in their own image.
Experience is a dear school, but a fool will learn in no other. The tuition bill for ObaMao's first term school for a lot of these fools is now coming due . . . as it will for the supporters of gay marriage.
The liberal mainstream media seems to think this is going to fire up the college age 18-25 vote back to 2008 levels. I disagree, young people have to survive too, and Gay Marriage isn’t exactly the most important issue when you can’t find a job.
No one I can think of. But this is not about votes, it is about money. The homosexual lobby was threatening to dry up funding unless obama stood up for them. So he did.
The whole thing isn’t about gay marriage - you can be gay and get married, it is about changing the meaning of marriage away from ‘a union of a man and a woman in matrimony.’ Obama says he believes in a dictionary that most Americans don’t. It gains him zero votes - and likely loses him some.
Great campaign tactic.
Obama sure is doing a great job of getting those who were already going to vote for him to vote for him. . .if they show up to vote at all.
Meanwhile, what is that unemployment rate?
So where are we today:
1) Republicans are racist, check.
2) Republicans are sexist, check.
3) Republicans are homophobic, we can check that one off now.
4) democrats need a new schtick, check.
“Obamas focus groups are way out of focus.”
Nope. He’s shoring up his base since his Presidency is a disaster. It’s pretty funny actually. At this point, he should be campaigning for independents, not begging for money from people that should be financing his campaign by default.
This would be even funnier if the Rs were running someone I was dying to support :-).
Obama could gain critical votes over gay marriage issueRight, like gays were all about Republicans/Romney before this.
For most people it isnt a major issue. America is pretty much split on it.You couldn't be more wrong and "split" is 50/50 only in your mind.
Look at the big news sites... They keep talking about it, but nobody is reading the posted articles. Beck this morning couldn’t understand it. It’s simple, it isn’t news. Who DIDN’T think Obama was pro gay and anti marriage? Ho hum, slow news day. Now give me some NEWS instead of OLDS, then maybe I will have something to care about today.
