Pro-Dewhurst Group Releases Poll Showing Him At 57 Percent (Oh no!)
National Journal ^ | May 11th | Sean Sullivan

A super PAC supporting Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst's Senate campaign has released an internal poll showing him at 57 percent in the GOP race with less than three weeks left until the primary.

The poll shows Dewhurst at 57 percent, followed by Ted Cruz at 16 percent, Tom Leppert at 12 percent, and Craig James at 4 percent. Eleven percent were undecided.

If Dewhurst finishes with over 50 percent of the vote on May 29, he wins the nomination outright. If not, the top two finishers will advance to a July 31 runoff.

The Perception Insight poll of 800 Texas Republican primary voters was conducted for the Texas Conservatives Fund from May 1-7 and carries a margin of error of +/- 3.5 percentage points.

It’s not who you are not voting for that defines you, but rather who you ARE voting for. Defense of the SMU professional football program, and its beneficiaries, indicates a lack of moral character, and an ethos that would probably be more at home in California than in Texas.

And I think that Mr. Nek has overstated Mr. Craig’s denial on accepting money. I’ve seen where he denied taking a signing bonus to go to SMU, but the quotes I’ve seen don’t deny that he took money while he was a player there. He has also denied that he got any money from the school administration.

If there is a statement from James that doesn’t have to be carefully parsed, I’ll be happy to review it. Until then, I’ll consider him a politician with an typical level of integrity, and not someone I’d trust in the Senate.

“David Dewhurst is the Senate version of Joe Strauss! Nothing more or less than that!”

That is simply not true. Dewhurst is far more conservative than Strauss. If you would actually go to your local elected Republican Party officials and ask them if Lt. Gov Dewhurst is more conservative than Speaker Strauss, they would tell you that Dewhurst is far more conservative than Strauss.

You say - “I’ve seen some of your other posts essentially implying that Liz Cheney is not a true conservative (in another thread discussing the possibility of her later running for Senate from Wyoming)”

Not true. The point I made in that thread was was that the State of Wyoming needs true conservative new blood representing the interests of the State of Wyoming far more than they need the University of Chicago-educated lawyer- daughter of a career Washington insider reprensing them at this particular time in American history. You just made up the implication you stated in your post.

” and in this thread you’ve been implying that Cruz is not THE TRUE CONSERVATIVE in the Texas race.”

You again draw an implication not made by me in my posts, while I’m explaining to people less experienced in Texas than I, that the voters of the State of Texas actually have elected conservatives to office prior to 2010 and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is one of them.

I hope Cruz can get himself elected to a political office that is appropriate to his age and experience so that the conservative voters of Texas have a chance to see what he’s got.

Call it what you may. I’ve walked the Republican line for years and I’m not ashamed at all for that. Call it a protest vote I don’t care. At this moment in time I’m fed up with ALL politicians. Stay tuned......I’ve tried to be open-minded and I certainly am not so stubborn that I might not change my mind at some point. I’m still reading and trying to come to a conclusion as to what I might do. So sue me...:)

Just a tad full of yourself there aren't you nOOB?

I've been in the trenches of Republican Party politics in Texas since before you were born son and everyone who is anyone in this state knows me by my first name which, BTW, you will find on the list of Cruz endorsements!

Of course. I admire all those endorsers you name for presenting a united front in endorsing a slate of tea-party claimants who are running in the primaries. And the people you cite would be the first to tell you that they are going to win some and lose some depending on the local candidates and their records that they are running against.

Ted Cruz with his resume give the tea-party movement a lot of legitimacy on the legal side of issues, and for that reason alone, getting him elected is desireable for the tea-party movement.

But, it will not create a problem at all if Lt. Gov. Dewhurst wins the primary, like it would have if Sen. Lugar had won against Mourdock, or if Charlie Crist had beaten Rubio.

The tea party people can and should get fully behind Lt. Governor David Dewhurst if he wins the primary, unlike with the other totally different men listed above.

David Dewhurst is no Dick Lugar, nor is he a Charlie Crist.

I’ve seen lots of Dewhurst ads on TV, but have not seen even one Cruz ad.

Don’t know the finances of Cruz but as you know Texas has some very expensive media markets so it may not be possible for him to do TV in those areas: Austin, DFW, Houston, etc.

I am glad to hear it!

So, what’s your problem with getting specific as to why you keep accusing Lt. Governor Dewhurst of not being conservative? You are the one who said said that Lt. Governor Dewhurst is as liberal as Speaker Joe Strauss.

Every post on this thread including yours is long on name-calling and short on explaining their accusations.

Out with it!

He's the SMU Craig James..... Mike Leach has been autographing copies of his book

The CJK5H stands for "Craig James Killed 5 Hookers" in reference to somebody manipulating Google, so that when you type "Craig James" in Google, the first thing that comes up is "Craig James Killed Five Hookers".

To say James is not popular in Lubbock is an understatement.

I’m in Houston & have seen plenty of Cruz ads on tv, many of them lately rebutting the Dewhurst ads criticizing Cruz. To look at our mayor & the infamous congressWOMAN you wouldn’t think Houston is any less prog than Austin, but when you count all the suburbs perhaps we are seen as a better use of limited funds than Austin ad buys.

I see you have even less supporting evidence in your attacks against conservative Lt. Gov. Dewhurst as the rest of the Cruz supporters on this thread.

A one word unsupported, unexplained, groundless assertion.

I see you have gone from a five-letter word groundless assertion attack down to a four-letter groudless assertion attack.

Like the rest of the Cruz supporters on this thread attacking Dewhurst, you have nothing to say to explain or elaborate as to why you think Dewhurst is not conservative, despite all the evidence that proves Dewhurst is conservative.

Nor do you have anything to say to in support of the idea that Cruz is the better conservative or the better candidate.

“How bout we do it this way sport! YOU list all the CONSERVATIVE things you think Mr. DEW hurst has accomplished and I’ll tell you the truth about them one by one!”

I’ll be happy to cooperate with your request to provide you evidence Lt. Gov. Dewhurst is conservative and would represent Texas in the U.S. Senate better than Cruz for you to take potshots at.

I must remind you, however; that this thread started out as an attack thread against Lt. Gov. Dewhurst, saying his imminent 57% victory in the Texas primary was worth conservatives going “Oh,No!” over. Then, you chimed in with your accusation that Lt. Gov. Dewhurst is as liberal as Speaker Strauss. Then, when I dared ask for evidence that Dewhurst is the liberal Cruz supporters are accusing him of being, called noob, LOL-ed at, your “son”, blockhead, and generally condescended upon.

FYI, it is generally accepted that the person who throwing the mud must back up their words, yet you and the other Cruz people expect the one person who questions your unsupported attack on Dewhurst to provide you with talking points!

But before I get started, I must mention that unlike Cruz, David Dewhurst has not run the relentlessly negative campaign with accusations that his republican opponent is not even conservative. In fact, the only thing Dewhurst campaign has said that could be construed as negative was the truth that Cruz is overzealously representing his client with appeals in a court case his client lost involving Cruz’ client stealing an American Company’s business property.

But, here’s the evidence that David Dewhurst would represent State of Texas in the U.S. Senate better than Cruz, then you can tell me the truth about them one by one.
David Dewhurst was born in Texas and has spent most of his life in Texas, both as a private businessman and elected official in his later years. David Dewhurst went to public schools in Texas, was a college-level athlete, and is an Air Force veteran. After that, he learned all he needed to about Washington bureaucracies and how they work in a brief stint with CIA, to convince him get away from the federal government and move home and enter the private sector. After success there, he was elected at 53 and has served in statewide office, currently as Lt. Governor at a salary of $7,200.00 per year.

In an era of Federal Government mandates in education, Bush Administration high levels of spending, and unfettered, federal governement-encouraged immigration into our border state, Dewhurst has done all he could to limit the taxes and spending. Everyone in government is a product of his generation and times and part of a team that must make society interact peacefully, and that sometimes involves the dreaded C-word - compromise. David Dewhurst has never claimed to be some kind of conservative activist, but neither is he the liberal you are unsuccessfully trying to make him out to be. David Dewhurst’s stands on the issues are well-known and you know as well as I that he will work to get a Constitutional Amendment to balance the federal budget and repeal Obamacare, and stop the green-energy scam and allow domestic energy production, and reign in the excesses of EPA and NLRB and NEA, and that he is very pro-life, and would vote in the Senate every bit as conservatively on the issues, if not more so, than Cruz. In fact. I think David Dewhurst personality and leadership skills and speaking skills and experience would make him far more effective Senator than Cruz, and I trust David Dewhurst to represent the interests of the State of Texas and Texan people more.

Ok. Since you couldn’t come up with your own material, I’ve given you a ton of free ammunition. All without attacking your man, Cruz.

Now that I’ve given you the list of things you requested, can you take them ONE by ONE, from the beginning and in order, as YOU said you would and tell me exactly how each and every truth I stated isn’t true?

I only included you in my reply to bigun because you had previously evinced an interest in Texas politics.

I like the pictures on your about page much better!
