White Miss Fiji Winner Who Was Caught Up In Race Row Stripped of Her Title Because She Is Too Young By RICHARD SHEARS 13 May 2012
A teenager who became embroiled in a race row after residents said her blonde hair wasnt crinkly enough for her to win a national beauty contest has been stripped of her Miss Fiji title. [Pic in URL]
Torika Watters, who is of mixed European and Fijian heritage, was told yesterday that she couldnt keep her crown after all - but organisers said it had nothing to do with her white skin or her hair.
Instead, they said that contestants for the title - part of the build up to the British-based Miss World competition - had to be at least 16 years and 11 months old.
Miss Watters fell a few months short of that rule, said the organisers, so her title was being withdrawn.
Stripped: Torika Watters, who is of mixed European and Fijian heritage, has been told that she couldn't keep her crown because she was too young to enter the competition
She had beaten a large number of indigenous Fijian women to win the title last month in a competition overseen by New Zealand supermodel Rachel Hunter.
Such was the anger among Fijians in a country where racial division is deep seated that hateful comments had to be deleted from the official Miss World Fiji Facebook page, the Fiji Times reported.

I can’t post a picture of the young lady and while she is very young I verify to everyone that she is most assuredly NOT GUILTY. She is also much more attractive than the runner-up.
Maybe she should run for “Miss Cherokee” at the next Harvard Beauty Pageant. She must have 1/32 hiding in her bloodline somewhere.
One of the most beautiful women I have ever seen was a black Lady from Fiji. The genetics of that Island kingdom must be fascinating ...
The one who came in second place is not as pretty as Torika Watters.
The row erupted when locals said she should not have won the title because she did not have a buiniga - the local word to describe the naturally-frizzy Fijian hairstyle.
She lost the crown because she's white. Even reverse racism is racism, pure and simple.
How “white” of them.
She may have to give the crown back but she still looks better than the rest of them. What a political blunder they made.
I live in DC, which has a fairly cosmopolitan population. This includes more mixed race marriages than one would find most other places. I know several "black" kids who are whiter than me; to their (and their families') credit, they laugh about the whole race thing. The question is, will they be trained to go through life expecting unearned privileges from checking a box. I hope not; they're great kids, and I hope the racialist system doesn't turn them into scammers.
Probably too late for the kids since they are growing up in DC. From living in the area, I know that political correctness is simply part of the background atmosphere, to be exploited whenever there is opportunity to do so.
A fish that continues to swim in the ocean will never see the water. These kids’ only hope is that they learn to be flying fish.
As an 8th generation, my logic is that I am more of a native American than most “African Americans” are African.
Oh suuuuuuurrrrrreee, it was her age.
Total BS - she was too ‘white looking’ to satisfy the dark racists of fiji - shame on them.
That would be Polynesian. Fiji is nowhere near Africa.
White people can’t win beauty pageants anymore.
The stripped winner was the best looking of the lot, but honestly, judging from the photos, you could run a better-stocked beauty pageant in most nightclubs.
That statement will soon not be limited to beauty pageants if the current trajectory continues.
