Will U.S. Sovereignty Be LOST At Sea? Obama Signs U.N. Treaty That Redistributes Drilling Revenues
Forbes ^ | may 20, 2012 | Forbes OpEd

Posted on 05/20/2012 10:18:50 AM PDT by Innovative

A proposed Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST), which has been signed by President Obama but not yet ratified by Congress, will subordinate U.S. naval and drilling operations beyond 200 miles of our coast to a newly established U.N. bureaucracy. If approved, it will grant a Kingston, Jamaica-based International Seabed Authority (ISA) the power to regulate deep-sea oil exploration, seabed mining, and fishing rights.

As part of the deal, as much as 7% of U.S. government revenue that is collected from oil and gas companies operating off our coast will be forked over to ISA for redistribution to poorer, landlocked countries. This apparently is in penance for America's audacity in perpetuating prosperity yielded by our Industrial Revolution.

Like the U.N.'s Kyoto Protocol debacle that preceded it, this most recent LOST cause embodies the progressive ideal of subordinating the sovereignty of nation states to authoritarian dictates of a world body. The U.S. would have one vote out of 160 regarding where the money would go, and be obligated to hand over offshore drilling technology to any nation that wants it... for free.

“Half of this site is voting for Obama for a second term, it can’t be that bad.”

I had no idea half of the Freepers were voting for Hussein. I must have missed those threads....

ThowThrow those enablers on their butts out of office and the Great Uniter is powerless.

I'm sure you meant throw. FWIW, it is much easier to "say" throw them out, than to actually "do" the throwing. Most of the cretins (whether liberal or RHINO) are more often than not in districts or senate seats that are relatively safe for the incumbent - hence, much of the reason why the U.S. is in such dire straights.

Barry has already toured the Russians through our nuclear weapons sites and plans to give up our defense capabilities. He can be “more flexible” after the next election.

He’s hemmed and hawed on same sex marriage and gays in the military. What policies do you think he will push for after there is no accountability to the yellow dog “non-pinko” Democrats?

We haven’t seen the least of what he’s capable of as he seeks to deliberately bankrupt this nation (to cause economic collapse to “need” a radical change in governance). He’s got an end to American supremacy in his sights as a goal.

The money he doled out to supporters wasn’t “wasted”. It feathered nests. It was a looting of the economy.

All animals are equal, some are more equal than others.

Another excellent post. You must be an intelligent fellow because you agree with me.

Romney is no Firefighter.

On his best day Myth’s draft dodging RINO con-artist arse could not’ve passed the CPAT, much less the Lie detector test required to be one.

My father-in-law, who was a simple, but very astute man, used to say, “A wise man occasionally changes his mind, but a damn fool never does.”

Choosing anything that would help reelect Obama at this time in history is utterly insane.

The only real choice you have, is whether to support the puppet masters’ destruction of America, or resist with everything you’ve got. There are no other real choices.

I believe there IS another choice:

Almost ANYONE would be better than Obama. Thus, I will vote to replace Obama with Romney...AND I will work hard at the local and state level to elect wise conservatives who will endeavor to reduce the size of government and make it much more efficient and responsive to the people. Eventually, this will enable us to have far better candidates for the highest offices. I will also strive to see that public education reforms and strengthens its American history, civics and economics instruction. Future voters must learn about the mistakes of history to be able to avoid repeating them.

I will also continue to pray for this nation and repent of my own shortcomings.

Only truly wise choices and the help of God will restore this nation now.

Great links. I'm surprised so many on this site are saying things like "Obama must get 2/3's of the Senate to ratify, blah, blah"

Yeah, and the Senate is required to pass a budget, follow Senate rules on reconciliation, read bills, oversee the executive branch appointments, and so on.

There was a line item for $30B in the stimulus for electronic health records. I remember mentioning this to numerous people that it was a total boondoggle because we didn't even have the laws or regulatory structure to support such an endeavor. Then surprise, ObaMao-care was "deemed" passed! Ah ha, there's the laws to support a national database of every detail on every person in the USA.

I would prefer someone more conservatively principled than Romney....but your attempt to make him equal to Obama is quite flawed. The House and Senate will help maintain the road to intelligent reforms and more limited government....until we can, from the grass roots levels, bring up more conservative candidates.
