Culture Challenge of the Week: Poll-Driven “Principles”
The American people are not stupid.
Recently, President Obama announced he’d discovered a new conviction in favor of homosexual marriage (conveniently timed to maximize his standing at a $15 million Hollywood fundraiser among the liberal glitterati). It was nothing more than a blatant attempt to fire up his base, particularly young liberal and independent voters: If they don’t vote, Mr. Obama loses big-time.
But the American people are not buying into his pandering. A CBS/New York Times poll found that 67 percent of all Americans think Mr. Obama’s announcement was “mostly for political reasons.” Just 24 percent thought his decision came “mostly because he thinks it is right.” Even half of the Democrats surveyed chalked it up to politics. (Ironically, a White House spokesman complained that the New York Times poll was biased — an astonishing claim coming from the left.)
Overlooked in the fuss over Mr. Obama’s statement — and the sound of political backfiring — was this data, reported by the New York Times:
About 4 in 10, or 38 percent, of Americans support same-sex marriage, while 24 percent favor civil unions short of formal marriage. Thirty-three percent oppose any form of legal recognition. When civil unions are eliminated as an option, opposition to same-sex marriage rises to 51 percent, compared with 42 percent supporting it.
The numbers unmask the fraudulent claims that homosexual marriage is inevitable or a nonissue for open-minded Americans. On the contrary, those numbers help explain why more than 30 states so far have declared their support for marriage as a union of man and woman — specifically refuting the homosexual lobby’s demand for marriage equality....

They can legislate and pretend all they want, but they cannot change reality.
What I have never been able to figure out, is when homosexual marriage became a liberal cause celebre. It wasn’t always so.
In 1996, when the Defense of Marriage Act passed, it passed by overwhelming majorities in both House and Senate. Bill Clinton signed it. If you go back and look at the roll call vote, you will see that liberals such as Pat Leahy, Chuck Schumer, Tom Harkin, and Joe Lieberman all voted for it.
At that time, homosexual marriage was not a liberal cause. At that time, one was not labeled as homophobic and bigoted and all the rest because one wanted marriage defined as a man and a woman.
I always wonder what happened behind the scenes, so that today’s liberals now embrace homosexual marriage as the “civil rights” issue of the 21st century. Only 16 years ago, only the fringe considered same-sex marriage some civil right.
Were all of these liberals bigots then, if they voted for that law? That law which is so hated by liberal/homosexual activists, exists only because liberals in Congress and a liberal president voted for it.
When the libs realized that the homosexual lobby has a lot of money(which they should. They’re the wealthiest “persecuted minority” in the history of the world. Also, not reproducing children allows one much more disposable income), they changed their tune and suddenly, everybody in human history is a “bigot” if he’s ever thought marriage is between a man and a woman. That would make Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy, and FDR all “bigots” also.
North Carolina overwhelmingly passed a marriage amendment.
Also, even Gallup has Obama losing to Romney.
He’s going down.
The Communists/Marxists have complete control over the Democrats now. Communist platform lists promotion of perversion. It is because Marxists need to destroy Natural Law Theory—the family unit==to destroy freedom and the Constitution.
If they can make-up idiotic, stupid laws which defy nature and are totally irrational by reason, logic and science-—then we are no longer under the Rule of Law—Just Laws—which demand logic and reason and the promotion of “good”.
Then we are a nation under Rule of Man—like Hitler’s Germany and Stalin’s/Lenin’s Russia and Mao and Pot, etc...
We are a unique country because in our Constitution, our inalienable rights come from God—not man—and this “homosexual marriage/unions” defies God’s Laws and the Rule of Law. We are promoting Vice-—sodomy . Kind of like when we promoted slavery—a vice-—same thing. Evil is made Good by Force of Law. It is Evil.
People need to be reminded that marriage is suppose to have a very practical propose, and that propose is children. Two people of the same sex can’t produce children. Binding them together in such a relationship is thus ridiculous and serves no propose.
Even if you count a dog’s tail as a leg, it still has only four legs.
I seem to remember they started talking about it in MA around 2001 or so. Because of this, there was a petition to get a referendum on the ballot to ensure marriage between one man and one women. We got plenty of signatures, but in order to get it on the ballot, it had to be approved by the legislature. The Dem. led legislature messed around and never brought it up.
In the meantime, the priest sexual abuse issue blew up in Boston, and the libs found their chance. Frankly, it's my opinion that the libs pushed the sex abuse issue at that precise point in time, because they had brought the homosexual marriage issue to some members of the Supreme Judicial Court to make sure they'd rule favorably on it. They knew that the Catholic Church in MA would be a formidable enemy of homosexual 'marriage', so they had to do something to reduce that power. With the people angry at the Church, they wouldn't pay attention to any pronouncements for the Marriage Referendum, so it would die away in the legislature. The priest abuse scandal was the perfect opportunity to do that. These cases had been known about for years by the law enforcement and justice communities, but no one had ever brought suit against the priests, particularly Paul Shanley and John Goeghan,probably because they were very big Democrat supporters.
So two women filed suit to get married, and the case went before the Supreme Judicial Court, and it passed. We still tried to get the legislature to pass the Marriage Referendum out for a vote, but then Deval Patrick won the Governership, and he bribed the last five holdouts to NOT let it out for a vote, so the citizens of MA never got the chance to vote on it. And those five legislators lived in 'safe' districts, so they saw no reason NOT to go against the majority of voters, who at that time were against homosexual 'marriage. The activists also calculated that if it got approved, and folks got used to it, there would be fewer opponents as time went on.
We have seen, in MA, the results of homosexual activists getting their way on this issue. They have gone on to bully businesses to accommodate them and their 'weddings', and schools to start pushing 'tolerance' education. It would be interesting to see what voters would have to say on the issue today, especially considering the fact that less than 10 years after turning marriage upside down in MA, the couple that started it all decided to get a divorce.
You have got it perfectly. Same sex marriage will achieve what the Communist/Marxists have been working for decades to accomplish: make men subjects of the state. When the natural order of man as God’s creation is redefined as the natural order as created by man, the relationship between the individual and the state becomes a new slavery. The government becomes the slave master over the individual.
What you have described is bully government in its most corrupt form. This is one step short of Naziism.
Exactly my point. People don’t understand that homosexuality “marriage” removes the Christian paradigm for all future generations. We will be totally transformed into irrational, non-truth seeking automatons who function under man made-up laws.
It is totally inconsistent with the ideology of our Founders who believed in Absolute Truth—in God and that all Natural Rights come from a higher source that the Hitlers, Barney Franks, etc. Right and Wrong is set in the Bible and was the guide in the US until Carter’s DOE establishment so the Marxist curricula would infect all the children in public schools. It is irrational thinking—cuz the Laws of Nature are thrown out of Marxist ideology as is all family relationships.
The Cultural Marxists knew to destroy the US, you destroy the natural family and Virtue. Inject immorality as normal—destroy all relationships and children’s emotional health is destroyed and they become dependent on adulation from the masses to feel good about themselves....they conform to popular culture. Individualism is destroyed.
The idea that human nature “evolves” is Marxism—All of history since Cain and Abel states that human nature NEVER changes-—it is the Truth. Change that idea in children and we evolve into a godless nation because we will reject the Laws of Nature which eliminates the idea of a Lawgiver.....our very foundational ideology of God-given Rights.
There can never be promotion of evil in Just Law. Promotion of sodomy—by whatever fake name , “homosexual marriage” still makes it evil, irrational, deadly and sick, unnatural ideas to give to children which would NEVER occur to a child unless they were physically or emotionally abused.
Yep, and we’ll be glad to see the back of MA, as soon as the real estate market improves so we can realize a decent return on our house.
You could not have described what’s going on much better. I hope our nation is waking up to the reality of the Marxist agenda as expressed in same sex marriage. I know I will shout it to the rooftops because it will do irrepairable damage to our freedoms and the survival of our nation.
Yes-—Marxism is radical egalitarianism which removes all private property, removes God and destroys the family unit—no one is allowed “special” status like mother or father—which become ugly, repulsive words to Marxists. It takes loyalty away from the State and gives unequal affection to others.
People don’t understand the evil of Marxist ideology-—Children belong to the State and it removes all humanity from human beings. We are treated as a collective—a hive—cogs in a wheel where there are no individual rights and individuals can be eliminated if it is good for the collective.
