Washington, D.C., becoming a 'Mormon stronghold'
Deseret News ^ | May 16, 2012 | Joseph Walker

The stunning expansion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington, D.C., area is profiled in a long, interesting and meticulously accurate CNN story that suggests "the nation's capital has become a Mormon stronghold, with Latter-day Saints playing a big and growing role in the Washington establishment."

-SNIP-

"It's hard to point to federal legislation or a White House initiative that bears distinctly Mormon fingerprints," Gilgoff writes, "while it's easy to do the same for other faiths." He cites as an example a recent White House "compromise" on contraception funding, which he says was "mostly a reaction to pressure from Roman Catholic bishops."

Well, a massacre back in 1857 obviously proves Mormons today are as big a terrorist threat to this country as Islamists.

Or so some like to imply...

"I do detest mormonISM"

What is a Catholic if not Catholicism? I am one in the same.

"mormonISM which at its foundation is anti-Christian." ... "Romney is who he is because of his mormonism, not in spite of it. If you do not understand mormonism you will not understand Romney."

'Romney is who he is because of his mormonism', and 'mormonism is at its foundation anti-Christian'. Got it. 'Detest', not 'hate'. Got it.

"You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar, that you do accept the law of consecration as contained in this, the book of Doctrine and Covenants [he displays the book], in that you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion. This vow is made by every "worthy" mormon who takes part in their temple ritual."

You know, Bluto took something similar...

Brother: "I, state your name. All: "I, state your name. Brother: "Do hereby pledge allegiance to the frat." All: "Do hereby pledge allegiance to the frat." Brother: "With liberty and fraternity for all." All: "Amen."

And he still ended up a Senator!

You are familiar with Mormonism correct?

You are aware that the Vatican sees the LDS as outside the body of Christ.

You are aware that the “prophet” and founder of the LDS referred to the Catholic Church as the Whore of Babylon.

I will not get into what they say about our Savior.

I cannot understand for the life of me why Christians will try and call out those exposing the Mormon faith for what it is, why these folks at least don't stand aside if they don't have the stomach to stand for the faith. Catholics above all were once the best defenders of Christianity.

Oprah has won.

Not to mention the obama press is fueling the anti-mormon issue.

Sorry, but I don’t worry about Mormons at all.

Its kind of like not worrying about the commies after 1988 until they ended up in the White House shoving marxist policies down our throats...

Like he was the first...just repeating what Luther, Calvin, Knox had said about the Church long before him...

A retort so lame as to be cringeworthy. Besides, I gave this thread all the due credence it deserved...

I am with you. Radical Islam and Black Separation Theology is another story. Those I worry about.

Did you worry about Black Separation Theology before or after Obama got into the White House?

How can you separate Mormons from mormonism?

Like separating the sin from the sinner. Same thing.

Neither did the Utes.

Yeah, we all know that Mormons were the only ones who mistreated Indian tribes. /facepalm sarcasm

Do you realize just how silly you sound?

Mormons no longer practice polygamy.

Mormons no longer practice earthly polygamy...Colonized polygamy -- as in practicing it near Kolob in the supposed Mormon afterlife -- yup...it's supposedly (per Mormons) goin' on right now.

Oh, and even with earthly polygamy -- Lds "apostle" Bruce McConkie wrote in his book Mormon Doctrine -- that the Lds "jesus" would re-institute polygamy when He returned.

Your ignorance slip is showing.

HB you are incorrect. lds practice polygamy in Arizona, Utah and Nevada (probably other states as well) they follow Joseph Smith’s teachings and mormonism as it was first written.
In addition, what you do think all these “celestial marriages” are? They are polygamist marriages for their own godhood, plants.
Polygamy is practiced in mormonism everyday.

Let’s see, muslims have their man in the WH and people are worried about mormons?

#1, if Obama's Muslim-catering is fair game for focus on these threads -- as just you & many others (including myself) have done...then what's wrong with focusing on Romney's Mormonism?

#2, who are the ones worrying? Seems to me it's the many FREEPERs who have forfeited principles and are voting out of sheer "anti" fear...and are voting for Romney for zero-to-none "pro" reasons and all kinds of "anti-Obama" reasons.

Actually, for the past five years, it's been those of us FREEPERs who take our cultural cue from a certain "Lord" named Jesus Christ who haven't been worried or fearful who have CONSTANTLY stressed this one verse Jesus mentioned:

"I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him." (Luke 12:4-5)

So does Jesus say, "fear the Muslims?" (No)
Does Jesus say "fear the terrorists?" (No)
Does Jesus say "fear certain political parties?" (No)
Instead, does He say to exercise fear of the One who has authority to cast somebody into hell? (Yes)
So, indeed, our "fear" is on behalf of those who are placing their eternal spiritual lives at risk.

If many FREEPERs would "get over" their fear of Muslims, terrorists, and Obama, they could actually make a proactive difference in this world instead of always having to live reactively fearful.
