Washington, D.C., becoming a 'Mormon stronghold'
Deseret News ^ | May 16, 2012 | Joseph Walker

The stunning expansion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington, D.C., area is profiled in a long, interesting and meticulously accurate CNN story that suggests "the nation's capital has become a Mormon stronghold, with Latter-day Saints playing a big and growing role in the Washington establishment."

-SNIP-

"It's hard to point to federal legislation or a White House initiative that bears distinctly Mormon fingerprints," Gilgoff writes, "while it's easy to do the same for other faiths." He cites as an example a recent White House "compromise" on contraception funding, which he says was "mostly a reaction to pressure from Roman Catholic bishops."

Some folks understand a real threat to the soul. Others are too confused to tell the difference.

Please show where I have said anything favorable about Mormon doctrine.

I haven't.

You seem to confuse debunking the insane notion that Mormonism is a greater threat than Islam with defending the Mormon faith.

My point stands - a Mormon can leave the LDS church without fear of facing persecution or death. A muslim faces death if he wants to leave that faith.

Mormonism can peacefully coexist in a society that mandates freedome of religion. Islam loathes the very concept.

Ok, who is the Virgil Goode person you keep talking about? I just looked at my ballot that came in the mail today and their name is not listed. So who is he and why are you so focused on them?

Virgil Goode is a Christian on the Constitution Party slate...a former rep from VA.

The Constitution Party was on the ballot in 37 states in 2008...vying for 40 states in 2012...currently on 17 states' ballots...

So just because he is not (yet) on ballot, doesn't mean he won't be.

I am voting for Virgil Goode, and suggest others take a close look at him.

If you live in a state which will go Obama, anyway (Left Coast, NY, NJ, other lib states), your vote for Romney won't matter in making any diff vs. Obama.

If you live in a Mormon state like Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and AZ, your vote for Romney won't matter there, either, as a FREEPER. If you subtract all FREEPER votes from those states, the Mormons will sweep in Romney 99-1 -- at least within the Mormon bloc, which is a high % in those states...less so in AZ.

If you live in a conservative state which would ne'er consider a Dem or Obama, your vote for Romney won't matter there, either, as a FREEPER. If you subtract all FREEPER votes from those states, there wouldn't be enough Obama sentiment to vote him in.

That leaves only the genuine swing states -- and NOT the MSM-pegged "swing states" as of yesteryear or even as of May, 2012...but the genuine "swing states" as of late Oct 2012...

Those are the ONLY FREEPERs who have a genuine "dilemma" of a vote.

The rest who operate upon principle have absolutely NO EXCUSE to vote for the big govt, pro-abortion, socialist healthcare pioneer Mitt Romney.

And my point is that you do not know what you are talking about - persecution and death happen.

Got links to any stories about such that are less than, say, sixty years old?

The remaining 'other' side at FR is personal too, but not to defend MormonISM. It is to defend a real person, an individual they know as a good person who is currently in the Mormon faith

Btw, I take issue with your characterization of Mitt Romney as a "good person."

Even the Mormon church owned DesNews had problems with Romney's ties to the porn industry back in the Summer of 2007: The nasty taint of porn

I mean imagine you're a "devout Mormon." You've been offered a cozy occasional directorship position for a local theater for $25,000 per year. You find out that the theater shows family-rated fair. But there's a "back entrance" for their XXX showings. You also find out they give $ to Planned Parenthood. Would you, as an alleged "devout Mormon," continue to take the position knowing that a portion of your salary comes from their porn industry intake? What would you feel knowing that this theater's $ goes to the largest child-killing organization in the world (Planned Parenthood)?

Well, that's Mitt Romney for you. He's done the exact equivalent of the above!!! Besides the porn angle via His board position with Marriott he held for double-figure years, Marriott has made Life Decision Intl's boycott list for supporting Planned Parenthood!

Btw, I take issue with you putting words in my mouth. I said nothing about Willard, thank you very much.

There are FReepers, who shall remain nameless, who are 'good people' who are currently mormon. Just as you once were as well.

Thanks Boo-Boo.

Virgil Goode is a solid conservative and a good(e) man. If he had run as a Republican I'd have supported him. He has no chance on the Constitution Party ticket and is a wasted vote.

If you're not working for Goode, you're being used by his campaign workers to trash Romney. All's fair...

Thank you for that insight. Next question. Since it’s Friday and Happy Hour is soon ... what’s your favorite beer?

or is it possibly what the most interesting man in the world drinks (when he’s having a beer that is) …

p.s. do you know if the Mormons have a brewery business?

I've never said I was a Mormon.

(My ancestors were; my relatives are)

But...otherwise...thanks for your boo-boo...allows for me to clarify that.

Bogus request on your part.
Do you honestly beleive that the MSM is going to post articles on how mormons trying to leave mormonism are shunned. They however might be the case as this campaign continues.
Ask the former mormons on FR what happened to them when they left if you want recent first had experiences.
My personal experiences that myself, sister and bother were shunned by our mormon family when we refused to convert.
I have a cousin who was shunned by her husband, co workers (she was a temple worker) (lds) family and (lds) friends when she tried to leave after years in momonism.
I’d have you talk to my her, but she’s dead.

The “general admonitions” of Jesus were to not judge or throw stones or condemn the speck in your brother’s eye while ignoring the beam in yours. Stuff like that.

Perhaps you should read a little further into the BOOK...

Romans 15:4
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

Romans 16:17
I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.

1 Corinthians 4:17
For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.

1 Corinthians 11:2
 2.  I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings,  just as I passed them on to you.

Ephesians 4:14-15
 14.  Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.
 15.  Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

2 Thessalonians 2:15
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings  we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

2 Thessalonians 3:6
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching  you received from us.

1 Timothy 1:3-4
 3.  As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer
 4.  nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith.

1 Timothy 1:7
They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.

1 Timothy 2:7
And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.

1 Timothy 4:1-2
 1.  The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
 2.  Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

1 Timothy 4:6
If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.

1 Timothy 4:11
  Command and teach these things.

1 Timothy 6:3-5
 3.  If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching,
 4.  he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions
 5.  and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

2 Timothy 1:13
What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.

 2 Timothy 2:15-17
 15.  Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
 16.  Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.
 17.  Their teaching will spread like gangrene.

2 Timothy 3:16-17
 16.  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
 17.  so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

 2 Timothy 4:3-4
  3.  For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
  4.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Titus 1:11
They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach--and that for the sake of dishonest gain.

Titus 2:1
You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.

Titus 2:15
These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

 Hebrews 13:9
Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings.

 2 Peter 2:1-3
 1.  But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.
 2.  Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.
 3.  In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

2 John 1:10
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him.

I prefer to let the Holy Spirit decide who's "in sin".

Me, too!

But I can SURELY detect false teachings; and, by GOD, I am going to point them out.
