Washington, D.C., becoming a 'Mormon stronghold'
Deseret News ^ | May 16, 2012 | Joseph Walker

The stunning expansion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington, D.C., area is profiled in a long, interesting and meticulously accurate CNN story that suggests "the nation's capital has become a Mormon stronghold, with Latter-day Saints playing a big and growing role in the Washington establishment."

-SNIP-

"It's hard to point to federal legislation or a White House initiative that bears distinctly Mormon fingerprints," Gilgoff writes, "while it's easy to do the same for other faiths." He cites as an example a recent White House "compromise" on contraception funding, which he says was "mostly a reaction to pressure from Roman Catholic bishops."

I would whole hardily agree radical stuff about mormonism has been posted in the Religion Forum about mormonism.
You are aware this radical stuff comes directly from their (lds) own words and history, are you not?

I don’t know if you’re speaking to me directly, or just chose to click on my name, but I do not feel threatened by Mormons and I certainly don’t hate them!

I certainly didn't mean to imply that. I just noticed that you posted of your experiences with two Mormons; one devout, one not and I thought I'd chime in that my experiences have been the same.

And I don’t know how long you’ve been here, but over the years there have been some pretty radical and shall we say over zealous postings by Mormons et al that turned off a lot of FReepers.
Let’s just say there’s a “history”....

I've been here for some time and while I rarely participate on the religion forums, it's my observation on the other forums that the hatred towards Mormonism seems to be one-way, and has grown stronger since Romney has become the presumptive Republican nominee.

Mormonism is a secretive, media savy cult, and i think it is related to to Romney’s lack of openness, and thus his inability to related to others.

Mitt also can't help but show his "superior" side which comes from the ingrained mormon belief that they are better than others because they have the "one and only true church" and others are doomed if they don't convert, whether alive or dead.

You can see it in some FReeper mormons who can't help but condescend.

Yes, display as in producing good fruit. We will know a Christian by their fruit. Maybe some should display the good fruit and not the rotting fruit on the branches.of our life.

Thank you TN, but I feel better assembling outside the doors of the church. Yes, it was bad and I called it quits. But thank you for your concern. By the way, I have no problem with Christians as many of my friends are and attend. I don’t like judging others spirituality...especially if they claim to love Christ and have displayed the fruits of the spirit. But, once the fingers start pointing, I have a need to remind of the ol speck/beam scripture.

If you learned to read with Dick & Jane, thrilled by the magnificent horse illustrations in the “Black Stallion”, remember Elsie the Cow, fell in love with the playful Texaco Dalmatian Pups, or know Elmer, the trademark on Elmer’s Glue, then you know of Keith Ward’s work.

Ward a renowned impressionist, was the gifted illustrator who painted those enduring images on the American consciousness. Like Norman Rockwell, Keith Ward is part of our “Americana”; illustrating for so many magazines and advertisements, such as “Boy’s Life”, “Outdoor Life”, Phillips 66, Bordon Dairy Co., U.S. Steel (and many others). For more than 50 years Keith Ward has been part of our lives.

Now noted for his impressionistic “easel” paintings of landscapes and portraits, Ward thinks illustration is a good background for the fine artist. “[Illustration] teaches you how to paint in a number of different styles and how to paint different subjects,” he noted. Ward’s work has indeed covered a great deal of subjects - from paintings of seascapes to still lifes, landscapes to Western motifs.

His latter works were more concerned with the appearance of light on objects then with detail. His mastery of structure and color relationships, his quick and vivid perception of the essence of his subject matter are the touchstones of his success. His own comment about his work, however is simple: “I have fun. There is that inner spark of excitement with each painting. I cannot imagine myself as being bored!”

Ward died in Florida on March 23, 2000.

Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

John 15:1-8
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

Helpful material being posted on this thread. Thank God.

The sectarian elitism and devotion to a particular church as if it were almost God, and constant promotion of their One True Church® , and knee-jerk reaction that rejects out of hand anything that impugns it, is not restricted to Mormonism.

And whenever mortals presume supreme authority higher than Scripture then the souls as well as the bodes of men are in danger.

What do you have on the Utah War besides what the censored WP article has?

Mormons are now patriotic, but fighting against the US army was a result of the quest for a “Momonocracy” it seems.

Matthew 7:16

You may want to re-read that. Jesus is talking about FALSE PROPHETS, not the fruit of believers. “By their fruit” you will know false prophets.

And the ‘fruit’ of Joseph Smith is rotten indeed.

I really don't get all the Mormon hate present on this forum.

Point out one "hateful" post on this thread...

Elsewise, please reconsider your generic accusations @ all kinds of people.

Shotgun generic accusations is itself a form of slander.

Actually Catholicism is more about Grace than works, in theology.

And at least Catholics believe in the same God and Christ. Mormons do not.

Mormons teach AGAINST a personal relationship with Christ. Did you know that? It is anathema to them. It is stupidity to them. They make fun of Christians who believe that. I can source that using their OWN sources if you would like.

Like I said, rather than defend something you have ZERO clue on, pay attention to those of us who have been there and why we left. Defend non-Christians if you wish, but don’t pretend Mormons are Christians because they are not. Their own theology does not allow for it.

Yes, and there are those in the Christian church who will say to Christ they healed in his name, they did everything the bible asked of them ....and Jesus will say go away. I never knew you. This not about JS, LSD, or self proclaimed Christians. This is about knowing Christ. Not you nor I can judge someone’s heart relationship with Christ.

I can (and must as a Christian) judge their theology and teachings and if they follow (and preach) a false Christ. And Mormons do.

Again, before you stoop to defending them, you may actually want to learn what I had to find out first hand as a member of the Mormon church.

It is a pack of lies that preys on others and lies to outsiders. Mormonism is demonic to the core. Again, been there done that and PRAISE GOD He saved me out of it.

Worldview matters and thus religion matters. Mitt’s religion teaches him and encourages him to lie to get what he wants.

Mitt and Obama are the same politically and no much different religiously.

I know far too much about Mormonism to ever vote for one. I’m voting Constitution party. It would be contrary to both my conservative beliefs and my faith to vote for Mitt and I hate Obama just as much.

Besides, HT, you have been here long enough to know the the Flying Inmans have been doing this long before Romney. This isn’t about Romney at all, this is about the truth about the Mormon cult.
