The administion is not stupid... considering the admin is made up of washed up SDS thugs from the past with pedigrees in maoism... it’s just radical left. The admin is overly fond of helping China, the Pakistani left, and hostile Islam. Putting the Taliban in a position of strength will prevent India from extending more trade and security ties with Afghanistan; both China and Pakistan bellieve that is in their interest.
