The bill would cut taxes and ease regulations.

Just on immigrants??? Screw that.

How about a little equal protection under the law? Remember that oath you swore, Mr. Rubio?

I'm liking this guy less and less.

Plus I think highly skilled worker likely means being able to operate a lawn mower.

I don’t think you read the article. After reading it my concerns have been somewhat alleviated.

It would eliminate per-country caps for employment-based immigrant visas.

Wonderful. Just what we need - more visa types and a removal of caps.

I would've been more impressed if Rubio's bill restored some of the old time requirements that immigrants have their own damn money before beign allowed in.

I read the article and my concerns aren’t alleviated. Do we really need more immigrants taking jobs in America?

I don’t think you read the article.

From the article:

Create a targeted research and development tax credit for startups less than five years old and with less than $5 million in annual receipts. This R&D credit is designed to allow startups to offset employee taxes.

A "tax credit" is code for government control. How about we let the market dictate who wins and loses.

Create a new STEM visa so U.S.-educated foreign students -- who graduate with a master’s or Ph.D. in science, technology, engineering or mathematics -- can receive a green card and continue to work in this country.

On one hand, I guess he isn't calling backyard goat butchering or drywall installation a high skill.

On the other, aren't there already a slew of programs already in place to allow American companies to hire these graduates?

The problem isn't the lack of visas, the problem is that American companies actually prefer these foreigners over their available American counterparts because they can pay them less and bind them into a sort of indentured servitude status to prevent them from jumping ship to a competitor. A far more effective approach would be to (a)require the companies to pay their foreign workers at least a 10% premium over their American counterparts, (b)give them the same rights to move to different employers and (c)don't limit the number of visas since it would be accomplished by (a) and (b).

This is the way they do it in Japan. It has the dual effect of pushing up wages for the entire industry and encouraging more locals to enter the field since the foreign workers thus hired truly have superior skills and aren't just cheaper than their local counterparts.

The conservative darling isn’t so conservative after all.

Just another politician pandering to a certain group of people at the expense of everyone else.

Apparently, Marco Rubio is not the conservative I have been led to believe he is. This is just more government interference in the private sector that will become a slush fund for waste, fraud and corruption. It is government again picking the winners and losers at taxpayer expense.

People putting their own money at risk is he best hedge against failure, whether it’s a small business or an R&D program. When it’s government money at risk, even in the form of tax breaks, the motivation to avoid failure is lessened because the penalty is lessened.

The bottom line is that Marco Rubio is helping to expand government. His “good intentions” are no different from those of liberals; they all pave the road to hell.

Just another politician pandering to a certain group of people at the expense of everyone else.

Worse, he's setting up the conservative wing of his party, who will oppose this, for election year demagoguery by the president. This actually helps Obama by giving him an issue to get out the hispanic demographic.

Why could Rubio not wait until after the election?

Marco (Juan McCain) Rubio Thinks:

1. More government is the answer.

2. Raising your taxes to pay for it, is just fine. (a tax credit is someone elses tax increase)

3. Compromising with Democrats / bipartisanship (caving in to Democrats demands) is his style of governing.

He was an articulate, attractive, Hispanic candidate. HE IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE!

(and did I mention that he is ineligible to the office of vice president or president?)

Based on that, Rubio is definitely on Romney’s short list for VP.
