As I understand what I read, repealing the shoot first laws would have no impact on the Martin-Zimmerman case. As I read it, Zimmerman was already 'retreating' and retuning to his vehicle. Travon followed him and initiated the fight, at which point Zimmerman did not have the option of retreating and had no recourse other than to protect his life.
