When Conservatives Follow the Left's Vulgar Lead
The New American ^ | 23 May 2012 | Selwyn Duke

Many of us have heard the story about the North Carolina schoolteacher who shrieked at her students that they could be “arrested” for criticizing Barack Obama. The teacher’s words speak for themselves and have been, as is only right, roundly condemned. But it’s not her behavior that bothers me most.

It’s no secret that schoolteachers often seek to instill their leftist tendencies in students or that conservatives recognize the problem. What conservatives don’t recognize so well are the leftist tendencies in themselves.

What do I mean? Consider the following exchange between said teacher (her name hasn’t been released) and the student she locked horns with:

Teacher: Do you realize that people were arrested for saying things bad about Bush? Do you realize you are not supposed to slander the president?

Student: You would have to say some pretty f**** up c*** about him to be arrested.… When Bush was President everybody talked s*** about Bush.

Teacher: Because he was s****y.

The problem is not just what the teacher said, but how she said it. Do you find it at all striking that profanity is accepted as part of dialogue in this classroom, on the part of both teacher and student? Because I haven’t heard any conservatives mention it.

Gore Vidal never called BB that (a proto-Nazi) again, and he did appear on his show after that.

William Buckley was a pro at maintaining his cool while skewering verbally the opposition.
"Now listen, you queer," he said, "stop calling me a crypto-Nazi or I’ll sock you in you goddamn face and you’ll stay plastered."

Learning by example.

Coaching baseball at an area high school, I constantly admonish students and fellow coaches to “Watch your language, guys”, when there are female students or teachers about. Problem is, they’re nearly as foul-mouthed as the males.

I think the word was crypto, i.e. secret or concealed, Nazi. As usual Buckley responded to that casual lie with the truth (unknown to most Americans at a time when homosexuality was still a verboten subject) that Vidal was a "God damned queer". A great moment in television history, live and before the seven second dump button delay, that could only have been better if he did punch Gore and he'd "stayed punched".

Yes, we can thank feminism for that. Liberals should be hanged from the nearest tree.

Not cursed out, just hanged.

I think you’re right regarding crypto instead of proto. But proto would have served almost as well from Vidal’s point of view. should have looked up the quote.

A speaker gets demoted several steps in anybody’s mind when he/she uses profanity. The Bible indicates a person will be held accountable for every word out of their mouths.

You've hit on one of my pet peeves. The text contains crude language, but it is NOT profanity.

Profanity has a religious aspect. Using the name of Jesus as a swear word, or saying "God d**n you" are examples of profanity.

References to body functions, excrement, sexual acts, or body parts--while crude and even disgusting--are not profanity, because there is not religious aspect to them.

The Bible clearly states that profanity is a sin. But, it does not say the same about crude language. It says you demean yourself by using crude language, but it doesn't say it is a sin.

The reason I think this is important, is the gravity of how serious a sin actual profanity is is lost on many people when you lump crude language into the mix. It gives the impression that using "Jesus Christ" or "s**t" as swear words are somehow equivalent. One's an affront to God, the other (while crude and low class) is not.

If it was my child, I would not have been happy with how the teacher spoke to him. But I would have been very upset at my child for using the profanity in response. I know that kids today use it like it’s nothing, but my kids knew they couldn’t use that kind of language around our home or any family gathering. I would hope my kids could debate the teacher without the use of the cussing. Besides, I saw the kid. If I didn’t know his stand on Obama, I’d swear he was a liberal of the first order. He needs a haircut big time!

It seems to me that in the last year or two freerepublic has mostly ceased caring about cussing.

Other conservative sites like Breitbarts have columnists that use extraordinarily crude language in the most casual manner, as though they aren’t professional writers, but are in a bar and well buzzed.
