St. Paul pastor who backs gay marriage turns to Internet to keep church open

As a black leader at the helm of a predominantly African-American church, White has faced heavy pushback from his own community over his decision to stand up for gay rights.

White's struggles began July 4, 2005, during a national synod of the United Church of Christ in Atlanta. He joined a majority of delegates from across the country in voting to adopt a resolution supporting gay marriage rights.

He explained his decision to his congregation when he returned the following Sunday, and saw church membership immediately nosedive. Within weeks he lost two-thirds of his followers. Many Sundays draw about 20 people or fewer to the pews.

the pastor sounds like he's also a poor financial steward. I wonder where the deacons are?

I don’t think amorals are all that interested in going to church. :)

What made him think he could become a sin activist and keep his church? Do we have ministers playing theft activists or murder activists? Does each sin activist minister chose a sin to normalize and bless as holy?

Seriously, if his eldership were doing their job, he would be removed and dis-fellowshipped.

Oh I agree, gays are usually agnostic or atheist, the only gays that go to church only go to the church’s that support the gay lifestyle, my last name is Johnson, what are the odds lol

Although not well understood by the majority population, it’s a fact that blacks are quite conservative on some social issues - homosexuality being chief among them.

This pastor obviously misread his flock’s acceptance level of radical liberal ideals.

Actually, I think gays want to go to churches that do not support them, the purpose being to infiltrate and continue to grind them down, drive out anti-gay members and finally take over.

Look at the Episcopal church as an example. I left the church I grew up in when year after year, resolutions were introduced at convention to accept gays, promote gay clergy, accept gay marriage. Look at it today. The filthy homosexuals have destroyed it and they never really wanted it anyway. They just wanted to show their power to browbeat people into accepting their so-called life style as normal.

This pastor has just disqualified himself from his position as a representative of the Eternal Creator God. God tells anyone with eyes to read what He thinks of people who insist on practicing sexual immorality, and that is they cannot attain eternal life.

It’s not like the UCC is anything other than a social club for non-Christians these days.

Shutter it and burn it to the ground; it is NOT a church.

Careful. Last night a notoriously gay, predominantly black church in Minneapolis burnt to the ground.

” United Church of Christ “ is a left-leaning org, just the opposite of the “Church of Christ”

Bet the internet fund raising doesn’t save them for long or in the end. The queers, freaks and perverts will quickly lose interest and let him sink. Possibly the pastor will learn a valuable lesson, a hard lesson to be sure, but hopefully a lesson.

Didn’t I read that the NAACP endorsed gay marriage as a civil right a few days ago? It will be interesting to see what reaction they get from their membership.

Thanks for the mini lesson on the churches. I kind of miss all that, being a Christian stray. :)

It would stand to reason that liberals would lie in the title of their church. The central mission of liberals is to create disunity in the body of Christ. So they would put unity in the name of their church.

They don’t miss much.
