When President Obama gave the commencement address last week at the Air Force Academy, he congratulated the cadets for excelling at one of the most demanding schools in the country.
But decades after Mr. Obama completed his own college course work, his academic performance is still a mystery. Before and after his election as president, Mr. Obama has refused to release his college transcripts from his days as an undergraduate and a law school student.

CNN discussed the transcript question today in the three minutes I was in a room with a TV tuned to their channel. Their talking head’s comment was that asking to see Obama’s transcript is proof of racism, code language for “a black man couldn’t have these amazing credentials”. Was it sexist when they talked about Sarah Palin’s grades? What was it when they reported George W. Bush’s lackluster grades? But as with everything in the composite candidate’s record, the academic transcripts are off limits.

Not soon. Romney is not yet the official nominee and the people aren’t yet paying attention to the campaign. Romney needs to wait until the fall after the convention to become an “open book”. Use a live televised interview to reveal his credentials — long form birth certificate, college transcripts, selective service registration, parents birth certificates, etc. Do it matter of factly, telling the interviewer he wants to be transparent and put the facts in front of the American people. When asked if he is making a statement about Obama Romney should just say “I can’t speak for my opponent. You’ll have to ask him.”
I also read that Obama has bragged about having a high GPA (3.7 or something like that) and graduating from Harvard Law magna cum laude. Of course if the transcripts are never released no one can verify his claims--and no one but his professors will know if the grades he got were the same a white or Asian student would have received for the same quality of work.
Respectfully, it's believed Obama wrote the unsigned six-page note at 103 Harv. Law Rev. 823 (1990).
Law Reviews have signed articles and unsigned notes. It's unheard of for a Law Review editor not to have a signed article. Obama didn't.
However, it's thought he wrote the note on whether unborn children have a right to sue a mother for potential damage due to drug use, etc. Obama reasoned they couldn't due to Roe v. Wade and an Illinois Supreme Court case, among other arguments. It was a pie-in-the-sky article - theoretical and not practical law. Something that just required being pompous and not a lot of research; certainly nothing that could be attacked on academic grounds.
