New Documents Show Senior DOJ Officials Were Informed of Gunwalking in Fast and Furious

Sealed applications for wiretaps – approved by senior DOJ officials and obtained by the Oversight Committee – detail gunwalking efforts

WASHINGTON—  Today, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa confronted Attorney General Eric Holder with new documents showing that senior Justice Department Officials in Washington were given specific information about reckless tactics in Operation Fast and Furious. In a letter, Issa rebuked the Attorney General for his continuing efforts to mislead Congress about both the contents of the wiretap applications and details of who knew about and gave approval for reckless tactics.  While refusing to produce the subpoenaed documents, Holder has previously denied knowledge of and cast doubt on the possibility that the wiretap applications contained information about reckless tactics.

The wiretap applications show that immense detail about questionable investigative tactics was available to the senior officials who reviewed and authorized them.  The close involvement of these officials – much greater than previously known – is shocking,” Issa wrote to Holder.  “Throughout the course of the congressional investigation into Operation Fast and Furious, the [Justice] Department has consistently denied that any senior officials were provided information about the tactics used in Operation Fast and Furious.  The wiretap applications obtained by the Committee show such statements made by senior Department officials regarding the wiretaps to be false and misleading.  You have repeatedly either denied involvement by senior officials in Fast and Furious, or asserted that the wiretap applications do not contain rich detail about irresponsible investigative tactics.”

Wiretaps utilized in Operation Fast and Furious were intended to allow investigators in Arizona to listen to the phone calls of suspects as part of a strategy to reveal evidence of involvement by high level Mexican cartel associates.  The six applications for wiretaps, which have been sealed by a federal judge, detail specific actions taken by agents in Operation Fast and Furious.  This includes conscious decisions not to interdict weapons that agents knew were illegally purchased by smugglers taking weapons to Mexico.

The wiretaps, as required by federal law, were submitted to Washington for approval by senior Justice Department officials in the Washington based Criminal Division of the Justice Department.  They were approved under the authority of Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer of the Criminal Division.  To justify the need for the invasive law enforcement tool, Justice Department officials use robust and detailed information to explain the evidence used to merit its use and why other tactics are not sufficient to achieve the goals of the operation.

Information contained in the wiretaps had been subpoenaed by the Oversight Committee, but the Justice Department had refused to turn them over to investigators.  Obtaining them answers some of the questions the Committee and House leadership have warned(PDF) Attorney General Holder he must fully address to avoid contempt proceedings.  To date, Holder has not responded to this letter.  As the wiretaps have been sealed, the committee cannot publicly release them but copies have been sent to the committee minority and the wiretaps are available for review by Members of the Committee.

I didn’t say any of that. Those were quotes from an article.

Very Very interesting game you are trying to play..
Here is what you said

“I am not at all sure what the heck you were trying to say in that post but I will take a wild stab that you were saying something along the lines that the CIA would not be involved in F&F. I agree. AFAIK they were not involved in F&F at all. They had something else entirely going on.

“Grenade-walking” part of “Gunwalker” scandal”

I don’t mince words and don’t play games.

The CIA was involved. You can’t pretend that they were part of Grenade walking as you are doing..and then pretend they didn’t know about Fast and Furious..which is also what you are doing.

How many times do I have to say CIA trumps all. A former DEA agent who has worked the Columbia angle flat out says CIA TRUMPS ALL.

Davila - DEA was against but over a ton of Cocaine came into this country and onto the streets of Miami. WHY???

CIA TRUMPS ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT

You sure are pushing CIA theories. ...it’s just you are pushing the theory that they were arming the Zetas.

All of this is nothing new. CIA has been doing it for decades and decades.

According to declassified info:

Example, East Timor Massacre. Ford and Kissinger knew about it. Gave their approval. Knew that US supplied weapons were used in the massacre.

There was a memo from Thomas Barnes to Brent Scowcroft of the National Security Council, “Contingency Planning for Military Supply to Indonesia,” February 18, 1976

http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB174/1016.pdf

Instability is the name of the game for the CIA.

And to quote Mike Levine again:

“If I were a criminal profiler, it wouldn’t take much to identify a CIA pattern here [with Fast and Furious]: A wacko, barroom commando, illegal operation that makes no sense whatsoever, run outside the control of law enforcement.””

An interesting tie in to Obama’s mother. She went to Indonesia right as the East Timor Massacre was about to take place. In 1977, OBama’s current advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski
blocked access about the meeting of Ford with Suharto.

Read about Nixon’s Track I and Track II as it regards Chile.

Any theory that the CIA was involved in Fast and Furious is not kooky and has plenty of historical reference as it relates to providing weapons to groups in other countries.

What IS kooky is the idea that F&F could have gone on without the approval of the CIA.

It is also perfectly believable that the CIA lead the Sinaloa gang into thinking they had immunity when they really didn’t.

How often in the movies have you seen...”If you are caught..you are on your own”

You really think that doesn’t happen in real life?

ROTFLMAO

You sure are pushing CIA theories. ...it’s just you are pushing the theory that they were arming the Zetas.

That is not a theory it is a quote from an article where Plumlee and Jordan are the sources.

Jordan, who served as director of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s El Paso Intelligence Center in 1995, said the Zetas have shipped large amounts of weapons purchased in the Dallas area through El Paso.

Robert “Tosh” Plumlee, a former CIA contract pilot, told the Times he supported Jordan’s allegations, adding that the Zetas have reportedly bought property in the Columbus, N.M., border region to stash weapons and other contraband.

“From the intel, it appears that a company was set up in Mexico to purchase weapons through the U.S. Direct Commercial Sales Program, and that the company may have had a direct link to the Zetas.”

“The information about the arms trafficking was provided to our U.S. authorities long before the ‘Columbus 11' investigation began,” said Plumlee, referring to recent indictments accusing several Columbus city officials of arms trafficking in conjunction with alleged accomplices in El Paso and Chaparral, N.M.

Jesús Rejón Aguilar, the number three man in the Zeta’s hierarchy, disclosed last week that the Zetas bought weapons in the United States and transported them across the Rio Grande. Mexican federal authorities captured Rejón on July 3 in the state of Mexico, and presented him to the news media the next day. His recorded video statement was uploaded on YouTube.

Jordan agreed with Plumlee’s allegations that the Zetas are operating in the Columbus-Palomas border.

You were the one who brought Plumlee and Jordan into this to support your CIA conspiracy theory. You don't like what they say now?

Let’s be VERY VERY Clear. It is quite possible that the CIA was involved in getting weapons into the hands of the Zetas.

But let’s be equally clear...you are pretending that it is impossible that the CIA would have been involved in Fast and Furious.

That is ludicrous.

Zetas are the enemies of Sinaloa. What you are claiming is that the CIA wasn’t aware of Fast and Furious????????????????????????????????????????? Weapons going to the enemy of the Zetas who you claim the CIA was arming?

But more importantly, you are playing games and I have had enough of your BS - Claiming you didn’t say that the CIA was involved with Grenade walker. BS. It’s in your post where you do say it.

Believe what you want, but the CIA TRUMPS ALL. GOT THAT!

CIA TRUMPS ALL Law Enforcement.

There is no way that arms were getting into the hands of Sinaloas without CIA knowledge and approval ESPECIALLY IF THEY WERE ARMING THE ZETAS.

Go crawl in your hole and pretend that the CIA armed the Zetas while not knowing a thing about Fast and Furious

PREPOSTEROUS.

Oh and btw, F&F is going nowhere. WHY???

http://www.sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.com/2012/06/waste-of-time-hearing-demonstrates-gop.html

Because the CIA was involved in it.

I never said it was impossible.

Go crawl in your hole and pretend that the CIA armed the Zetas while not knowing a thing about Fast and Furious

Go crawl back up your own hole.

“I never said it was impossible.”

“Funny that you didn’t notice that I’m not the one pushing the kooky CIA theories.”

“I think it is ridiculously absurd to think that the CIA was involved in F&F”

Still playing games. Evidently, you think the CIA is so inept that a multi departmental plan called Fast and Furious that involved multiple agencies in an international plan could escape the notice of the CIA - who you say was involved in arming the enemy of the Sinaloas.

Let me clue you in..the CIA is not that inept.

Let's recap the essence of your theory. I won't be able to capture the full flavor of it without using the caps lock button or snide remarks but I'll do what I can without them.

a) The CIA is so powerful it controls the highest levels of the DoJ, the DEA, the FBI, the ATF, the State Dept. and pretty much every other Federal agency and gets them all to go along with a crackpot CIA plot that could destroy all of their careers and bring down the WH.

b) The CIA is entirely powerless to invoke the Federal CIPA law to protect one CIA asset from one U.S. Attorney in Chicago.

CIA TRUMPS ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT

Except one U.S. Attorney in Chicago. Even with CIPA on their side.
Yep, makes sense.

No, I did not say that. Plumlee and Jordan did. Your sources originally.

You are promulgating that theory while claiming it is ludicrous to think the CIA was involved in F&F.

You think they are so inept that they couldn’t possibly have known that F&F was arming the enemy of the Zetas. they can be part of Grenade Walker but not part of F&F???

Look, your posts are ludicrous.

And yes, CIA does trump all.

Don’t believe it. You better check the history again.

Start with Davila....with over a ton of cocaine brought into Miami when the DEA opposed it.

Btw, Secretary of State is not Law Enforcement.

Interesting interesting way you are twisting things. Trying disnformation tactics????

CIPA WAS INVOKED in the Sinaloa case. Why????

Everyone on FR better get used to the notion that F&F is not going to get to the head of the Snake on this debacle

In all the years that the CIA has been involved with drug trafficking..find me one indicted, let alone charged ,CIA officer for aiding and abetting a drug shipment.

Apparently you think the CIA is so inept they can’t protect one asset from one U.S. Attorney even with the Federal CIPA law in hand.

You are either trying to spread disinformation OR

You are just clueless about the CIA.

Davila was an asset in cahoots with the CIA on drug deals.

What happened to Davila????

It is LUDICROUS to believe that the CIA was arming the Zetas but had no clue the FAst and Furious was arming the Sinaloas when it obviously involving more than one Federal Agency.

I don’t know what your agenda is and I don’t care.

Your posts are filled with disingenuous comments and I have pointed some of them out for those that happen upon this thread so they can make up their own mind as to what you are up to.
