Teachers union: Business tax would target those not paying their fair share

The Nevada teachers union filed a business tax initiative today that would raise $800 million a year — an outgrowth of the frustration with the failure of the legislative process to increase funding for state government and schools.

If successful, the petition would create the state’s first tax on business income.

“The Education Initiative,” which is supported by the Nevada State Education Association and AFL-CIO, the state’s largest labor umbrella group, would tax businesses generating more than $1 million in annual revenue.

Is Nevada competing with California for the 'Dumbest State' award?

1 million in gross revenue is virtually every major business in the USA.

Go do it - Florida & Texas will suck those businesses up like candy while Nevada’s revenue goes into long term decline & consumer prices rise - its that hope & change thing at work again.

And businesses don’t pay tax - consumers pay it all through increased prices!

The unions have got to go. They have outlived their usefulness.

I wonder if these people know how how “pay their fair share” sounds to any rational person these days.
Sounds like a vicious petulant child. Which, incidentally, is a pretty good description of most communists and socialists.

Evidently teachers aren't smart enough to know that revenue is not income.

You can have a million dollars of revenue, and two million dollars of expenses, which is how the government does it.

Texas is the only state with a business margins tax. If this passes. Nevada will be second.

Shut the damn schools down and let kids Google whatever they want to know. Standardized test scores would go way up. :)

Privitize the schools, promote vouchers. The unions are an evil middleman and racketeers.

They should raise taxes on government pensions. That is where the big bucks are, and it would not hurt productivity or wealth creation.
