First lady Michelle Obma rallies grassroots base

PHILADELPHIA — The Obama team dispatched its not-so-secret weapon in a bid to excite its political base here Wednesday, using the more popular Michelle Obama to appeal for grassroots support in an election she said "will be closer than ever before."

Filling an atrium at the National Constitution Center on Independence Mall, the same location where Democratic candidate Barack Obama gave his noted race speech in 2008, an estimated 1,100 faithful Obama supporters lapped up the first lady's call for their help.

"We got your back, we got your back," a man in the crowd called out to loud cheers.

Grassroots activity was the cornerstone of the Obama campaign success in 2008, as a groundswell of enthusiasm produced an army of foot soldiers. The Obama campaign is trying to replicate that movement.

The first lady said the work of volunteers would make or break what promises to be a close election, saying it could come down to any one person's get-out-the-vote effort or the last few voters registered. She said the election isn't just about "one extraordinary man" but a greater vision of opportunities for middle-class Americans.

"Will we continue the change we've begun and the progress we've made, or will we allow everything we've fought for to just slip away?" she asked. "No, we know what we need to do, right? We cannot turn back now, not now. We have to keep moving forward. And more than anything else, that's what we're working for — the chance to finish what we started."

One Obama campaign volunteer, Rochelle Caplan, 65, of Philadelphia, said she's worried that the influx of conservative super PACs could mean a win for Republican Mitt Romney. And that's why she's working to get out the Obama message....

I doubt that Mr. Obama will win West Virginia, much less Pennsylvania.

Im a perfect universe, the 0bama’s would achieve the same political success as did Nikolai and Elena Ceasescu on Christmas Day, 1989.

Correction: "Ceasescu" = "Ceausescu".

Want to be precise, AND to state for the record that my posts on this subject are NOT intended to be construed as ANY sort of threat or advocating violence against ANY elected or appointed public official, living or dead. (so you online federal security freaks can move on along, get back to your g*ddamn coffee and donuts on your six figure government salaries, alright? kthx.)

Michelle doesn’t want to give up those all-expense-paid vacations. She is the welfare queen of welfare queens, and she loves it.

“Obama supporters lapped up the first lady's”

Words that should never be stringed together.

...an estimated 1,100 faithful Obama supporters lapped up the first lady's call for their help.

Translation: There were a few hundred, paid-for union members bussed-in for the "event".

She’s going to be at a VFW post in Prince William Co, VA (suburb of DC) this afternoon. I found it interesting that comments on the facebook page for the local paper were NOT as positive and worshippy as I expected. There were of course, the loyal women who bragged about how they were pulling their kids out of school to see the “great, wonderful lady”. But for the most part, the comments were less than flattering. Some of the negative comments did revolve around timing. It appears that she’s planning her “event” around the time that the high schools are let out for the day, and it hasn’t been released which roads she is shutting down for her caravan...if the buses are running late getting the high school kids home, they will also be late when the elementary kids get out.

As for me...well, I’m just hoping and praying that I do not go into labor today. Between her shutting down the roads to the west of me, and the Special Olympics torch running down US 1 this afternoon to the east of me...well...I guess I could post to FR the news article that would result... “local lady interferes with Michelle’s motorcade by having the gall to have a baby in the traffic jam” I think I’ll pass on those 15 minutes of fame. :P
