Liberals shed frustration, gear up for election fight
By John Whitesides | Reuters Fri, Jun 8, 2012
PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (Reuters) - After a gut punch in Wisconsin and frequent bouts of disappointment with President Barack Obama, liberal activists could be excused for a lack of enthusiasm about November's U.S. election.
But many of those attending Netroots Nation, a three-day gathering of grassroots progressives in Rhode Island, said the stark choices in the looming battle for control of the White House and Congress were all the motivation they need.
While liberals have frequently criticized Democrat Obama for being too quick to compromise and too slow to fight for their principles, those at the conference said it was time to focus on the stakes in his presidential race against Republican rival Mitt Romney.
"Most progressives are pretty savvy and focused on the future, and Mitt Romney is going to be very motivating for us," said Arshad Hasan, executive director of Democracy for America, the group founded by former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, whose failed 2004 presidential bid galvanized the left.

If they would ever name them, most folks would hurl.
Liberals are too stupid to realize that they have already won the war...but, as a conservative, it still feels good to win a battle every now and again.
I wonder if he is any relation to the Fort Hood terrorist.
If the Nutroots did not work for Obama, they might have to find real jobs.
Hardy-har-har. Really? These clowns still want to pursue tax and spend policies even as we are watching the Eurozone circle the drain. "Blue" states and municipalities are losing businesses and residents-- Detroit is literally collapsing. And they still are stuck on stupid.
I really find it hard to talk civilly about so-called Progressives.
I'll never forget the rape tents.
They are savvy in one way that conservatives are not. And that is they know they need to be united in order to win. All too often conservatives lose elections for not understanding this simple element of political strategy.
Let the liberals bring it. They always go way too far and over play their hand. One good example is OWS.
When they do such things, they usually turn people away from what they are trying to do. I hope that they do exactly that.
This means nothing seeing as this is a gathering of the most motivated leftist partisans. Just like in Wisconsin it will all come down to turnout based on motivation. Ironically the Dems will probably create such a doomsday narrative that many average supporters may simply believe their vote is all for naught.
Obama and Co. can spend tons of dough but if there is apathy on their side it simply won’t pull in the independents needed to win. Obama is already in trouble with Indies because...well...he’s got a record and the matching results and it ain’t pretty.
2008 was the Perfect Storm, a moment in time that comes along every 50 years or so. Note the two quotes in the article were from women in their young 50s -- last Boomers, Kennedy babies, pre-Gen X.
The young nutroots have dumped DailyPos and HuffPo diaries, moved on to tumblr, twitter -- mobile-oriented sites that are consequentially less-ideologically driven; or lost their nut access altogether due to unemployment.
Bobo is so out of a job next year...
Communists, Marxists, Progressives and many liberals have no ethics or morals because the State replaces God. As a result, the end justifies the means and they will do anything to win elections and take power — lie, cheat, steal and commit nefarious crimes. It’s not easy for honest people to win against such enemies.
I don't, but apparently you do. Carry on weary soldier! You visit many places others wouldn't dare (without taking a shower afterwards)!
And they'll be really surprised when the warehouses are empty and there aren't any productive people to fill them again...
