Why Obama's coalition is unraveling
Fox News ^ | June 08, 2012 | Lloyd Green

In 2008, Barack Obama won by assembling what has been called an “Upstairs Downstairs” coalition. Wealthy whites and lower-income minority voters brought Obama first across the finish line. Four years later, Obama’s 2008 coalition does not appear to be holding. The question is whether it will implode by Election Day.

Earlier this week, Gallup released a summary of its polling results for mid-May onward which pegged the presidential race as a 46-46 dead heat.

The numbers beneath the numbers showed that Mitt Romney holds roughly a 4-point lead among middle income voters, a 4-point lead among the upper middle income voters ($90,000-$179,999) and an 11-point lead among those with incomes exceeding $180,000.

Middle and upper-income America is beginning to wave goodbye to the president. His appeal to middle-class voters is falling flat

Half of US households get some kind of government check. At least two thirds of such people who actually turn up at the polls would vote Osama. In the past, however, they've tended not to show up.Let's hope that continues the November.

Let’s hope that the people who voted for Obama to prove they weren’t racist in ‘08 will vote against him in ‘12 to prove they aren’t idiots.

I suspect that many of those currently receiving a gov’t check realize that they were better off when they actually had a job. And they must know things are not going to get better under an administration that hates business.

I just hope Obama continues to show what a fool he is for the rest of the campaign...and Romney doesn’t put his foot in his mouth any more.

They showed up in '08 because they had a mass Hate Bush campaign, they had enthusiastic young people (who now are out of work), and they had a new candidate.

Now they have many blacks who are disillusioned by the gay marriage stance, young people who have seen some of Obama's weaknesses and are out of work, and a President who takes expensive vacations and caters to many corporates. Obama is now being forced to beg for money from trashy celebrities and radical homosexuals.

Enthusiam for actually traveling to polls and pulling the lever for him is going to be way down IMO.

That half is a questionable percentage. SS is not government welfare, but it is counted in that stat. There are people who are legitimately disabled and they are pulling in a check through their or their parents’ participation in the SS system. Many of those receiving government checks are children who are qualified under their parents SS. Anyone truly developmentally disabled is maybe or maybe not voting, depending on where they reside and if the donks have access to them. I believe the stat also includes income tax refunds, many of which are legitimate.

We have 50% of eligible voters participating, not counting areas of illegals and felons committing fraud. I do not think a dubious stat as to how many are receiving some sort of government check is predictive of the nation as a whole. It is a given in large urban areas, of course.

You may have something there. The problem for Obama may not be those who vote for Romney but those who don’t bother to vote at all. There are many who will NEVER vote Republican but, much like what happened to the Pubs in 2008, we may see a noted lack of enthusiasm for the candidate on them Dem ballot in 2012.

Yes, but now there is a new batch of young people who haven't a clue about the issues and vote whatever is popular with the late night shows on TV.

There is a new batch of suckers every four years. Other than the eighteen year olds and the welfare/minority class, I think every body else realizes we have a train wreck in the White House.

Strange that I haven't seen a single Obama bumper sticker and I live in a mostly liberal town in California. In activities with neighbors and acquaintances there has been little to no liberal chat or talking points thrusted into the normal conversation.

If one goes by feel I sense a bloodbath coming in November.

Many of those on welfare don’t bother to vote. People are just sick of him. A lifelong Democrat—union worker—told me they will not vote for Obama because they are sick of his squeaky voice, and his failure to get anything done. They will vote for Mitt this time “To give him a chance.” people want change.

All the people getting some kind of government check today will still get them if Romney is elected.

We have older neighbors across the street. Lifelong Dems - big union supporters.

I don’t know how they did/will vote, but they dislike Obama because they’re racists - as are a lot of lifelong Dems I have in my family.

I suspect any guilt they felt about their racism was resolved in the last election.

I’m not sure how large a group this is, but it’s a large group of the Dems I know.

Uncle Sam sends me a check every month because I’m a disabled veteran. Do you think that makes me likely to vote for Mr. Obama?

If one reads my post, and my profile, carefully they might come to suspect that I wouldn't include you as an Osama voter.I'm talking about the tens of millions of welfare parasites, individuals with phony "disabilities",the government paycheck recipients (please notice that I didn't say "workers") and others.I,too, received a government paycheck for a few years but my checks, like yours, followed receipt of a set of dogtags.

No,I wouldn't consider you to be part of that 66%.

My aunt, who died a few years ago at the age of 95,is a case study regarding this question. She was a "typical" old lady in a lot of ways. She was also a very devout Catholic...Mass *every* day for example. She also voted straight Rat...every time.We had a number of discussions which usually went "Mary, the Rats love abortion and abortionists, homosexual "marriage" and numerous other amoral things. How can you possibly vote for them?" "Because they give me my Social Security checks" was invariably the answer.I was never able to get through to her.

There are still plenty of stupid rich white people in California. At this rate, there will always be plenty of stupid rich white people in California. Given that, alas, it ain’t over until it’s over.

In 1980 my mother was convinced that Reagan was going to stop her SS checks. The rats put crap out like this knowing there are people who will believe it.

I remember when Mark White was running for governor of Texas. He rad ad after ad saying “I don’t think senior citizens should be forced to pay high electric bills.” Of course all the senior citizens thought he was going to lower their bills. After he won he said “Well, actually the governor can’t do anything about electric bills.”

Stuff like this is why democrats and those who vote for them disgust me.
