When posters mention Sowell and politics I refer them to his biographical Personal Odyssey where he spells out how little he cares for politics. He hasn't registered with any party or voted since 1972.

He turned down cabinet post talk in the 80s.

Guess it’s true what they say - you can’t go home again.

“He hasn’t registered with any party or voted since 1972.”

That is very disappointing to hear. I didn’t mention him as a real possibility, just an archetype of a black American we could all be proud to support.

The right to vote includes the right not to vote, and I suppose that is up to him.

‘Adolf Mbaine, a media ethics lecturer at Makerere University, was livid.

“They do not support polygamy. But they want us to embrace homosexuals. Obama has betrayed Africans. He is a shame to us,” he said.’

Fair point. Why would polygamy be a problem for anyone who supports homosexual activity?

His early involvement with possible appointed political office was frustrating. He disliked the Department of Labor when he was there. He learned he was too plain spoken and held little talent for diplomatically making a point. As Walter Williams, I think it was, told him, Tom you come across too nice when you meet people and then they are shocked when they find out what you are really like.

If Elliot and Babbitt were the heirs of Burke, and Kirk, Hayek with Nisbett following next, then Sowell stands above all others in the following generation.

And certainly, you don’t want the Field Marshal (not to mention Conqueror of the British Empire) disappointed in you.

For the record, “The Last King of Scotland” is a very, very good film, and I recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it. Forrest Whitaker’s finest hour; a genuine tour-de-force.
