Four people were killed and at least 19 others wounded Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning across the city, from the near North Side, west to the Austin neighborhood and as far south as 107th Street.

Ten other people were shot Friday night into Saturday morning - one died.

A 16-year-old with no gang affiliations and no arrest history died after being shot about 7 p.m. Saturday on the 2000 block of West 70th Place in the West Englewood neighborhood, police said. She was shot three times in the abdomen and was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center but died Sunday morning. A 21-year-old man, who police said identified as a gang member, was shot in his left leg in the same incident and was taken to the same hospital where his condition had stabilized, according to the Chicago Fire Department and police.

Meanwhile, the city focused how many hundred cops on a wedding and the community organizer?

As a Chicago native, (who had the good sense to bail out 43 years ago) it sickens me to note that many of the areas where these shootings happen are neighborhoods that I either grew up in or frequented back in the 40’s and 50’s. Of course, the makeup of these neighborhoods was quite different then and they were safe.

I don’t know why anybody would want to live in Chicago any more. I wouldn’t even go back for a visit now.

I’m sure the “Rev’ Sharpton will be on the scene bright and early Monday to demand that Mayor Rahm do something about all the murdered black people.

Doubt it would have made a bit of difference. These numbers are actually below avg for summertime Chicago weekend.

The cops may eventually show up if they get called but I guarantee you they don't want to be in the middle of this stuff.

He'll blame the guns.

You could make a fortune selling crime scene tape in Chicago.

I suspect you’re implying that cops are there to protect citizens. Cops are revenuers. They generate tickets. Their presence at a wedding is like a ceremonial guard; a present from the Administration to the married couple signifying the married couple’s importance to the administration.

Now, if the cops (as an organization representing the Administration) were interested in public safety they’d be running training programs to assist citizens to learn the proper usage and safe carrying of concealed weapons. When the city hired new cops they’d be crime investigators, not ticket writers.

I read recently that 22 states have traffic tickets as their highest revenue source.

I’m not sure that they even bother putting any up - or, maybe they have cloth on a roll and recycle it.

The idyllic neighborhood I grew up in in the 60’s and 70’s turned into a gang infested sh!thole 20 years after desegregation. Our parents had the good sense to move us to a place where no “forced” desegregation could take place.

When I was growing up, Chicago was pretty much a self-segregated city. The North side was white, the South side was black. We knew not to cross certain boundaries even as children. Now it appears there is NO safe haven.

I left in ‘69 before it really got bad. Last time I was back was in 2000.

I grew up in W.Seattle. Wanted to go back and see the old neighborhood below the water tower and was warned by family members that I may not come back alive. Left in 73 tried to return in 93. We played in those streets every summer till well after dark. A black eye and a bloody nose was the worst we gave or received.
