Nope, they even changed the look of the B.S.O.D.

The NEW B.S.O.D. is much tamer and displays this...

:-(

Not a joke, I am serious.

I’m looking forward to getting one of these. We do a lot of onsite customer interaction and these would make it really easy. Very light and portable for the airports but the keyboard is there when you need it.

I would say you missed a few things as you wrote about the tablet - one the reason they put out a tablet is not to “sell it” but to show their partners what is possible. Two, the cover is the keyboard which was not available in the cover of iPad. Three, tablets are everywhere for MS field users - heck of a lot more than iPads. What business people need is a lightweight device that allows them all the features of their Office. There is a USB too, so loads of big files can be dropped on this for presentations.

——Don’t they understand that when they compete with their own customers in the industry, their customers will STOP doing business with them?-——

Not if they maintain their prices, and allow other hardware manufacturers to undercut them. Some people will pay a premium for the MS model.

Swordmaker, it may look interesting, but it’s still vaporware. No availability date. No price. A thin set of tech specs that are specifically noted as subject to change.

About the only thing we know for certain is the basic form factor, it will run Windows 8, and will come in two versions; the higher-end (i.e., the one not running a stripped-down version of Win8) sounds more like an ultrabook with a touch screen than a laptop — that will certainly be its target market.

Assuming it ever makes it to market. Because it’s still vaporware. (Though I believe some form of the Surface will eventually be marketed, and to moderate or better success, if such an announcement came from a lesser known company it would be dismissed as a PR move to inflate the stock price.)

I remember the iPad got bad remarks when it was announced too. But then people “got it” once they held it.

Yes, for-q-clinton, I have to agree with you... you are right. Pundits did not get it... and now the iPad is threatening the computer market in general.

Did you know Kinect for XBOX 360 was the fastest selling gadget in history. iPad used to be #1 until Kinect beat it. I think MS is making some interesting moves in the consumer market.

Also guess what is the most used NON-PC device to watch movies over the internet? XBOX 360. iPad is right behind the 360.

Well if that’s the case I guess Windows Phone is going to take off because Android bought Motorola. And honestly that’s what pushed Verizon to start wanting to push windows phone starting this fall.

So you do have a point. It appears if you make a major OS (Apple, Google, and Microsoft) you also need to make your own hardware of sorts.

Kind of reminds me of the bomb that Macs used to give you when it crashed. I was like WTF! I thought you said Macs never crash. And they said it didn’t crash it just restarted itself.

With the BSOD at least I could tell what was messed up. With the bomb I had no clue.

Unfortunately for you the iPad cannot be made compliant. It just doesn’t provide the controls necessary for corporations who must meet PCI, FISMA, or HIPAA compliance.

Uh, yes, it does. HIPAA compliance has already been met... and the iPad is already in use in many areas where it is required. The fact that the DATA can be left on the server while the iPad merely accesses it is where you miss the concept. There is no need to carry the data around with you.

It’s gotten mixed reviews. Apparently the emphasis is all on the iPad functioning.

I happen to prefer using a laptop computer on my desk. And I prefer touch typing, with only occasional use of the mouse when I need it.

Frankly, I think they are screwing MS computer users in order to try to finally break into the touchpad business. Regretable.

I’m sticking with Windows 7. I always prefer to use the latest operating system, if I can, but it looks as if this is going to be one of their losers.

No it hasn’t, It doesn’t allow the control necessary to meet HIPAA. Numerous reasons and not going to post them here. The cloud features and lack of business controls on the apps are a big reason.

Sure it can be used as a browser to access web enabled apps. So can everything else out there.

I’ve already seen numerous incidents where people compromised patient records because of ipads.

I had no idea. My kids had told me about playing games that didn’t require a remote, which sounded pretty cool. I’m not too much into hand held games, but I like Wii games. They’re great for New England winters.

So you can access Netflix through the Xbox? Can you start a movie through voice commands or gestures? We have three remotes, and one is always missing...
