Vanity: Boehner should introduce a bill tomorrow requiring all citizens to own a firearm.

Those wishing not to comply must pay a tax. Watch the liberals' heads explode.

The Radio Tax. Listen to Rush or Sean 20 minutes a day or pay a $50 fine.

What will really happen is we'll get fined for not listening to NPR and buying organic food.

I’ve argued this with the guys at work for 2 years.
If Obamacare mandates that people purchase health insurance to counter the high cost of health care...
Then everyone should be required to purchase a firearm to counter the high cost of crime.
I win this debate every time.

It’s the SAME ARGUMENT!!!

The consequence of which would be to invalidate gun-control laws in every state (and cities like DC and Chicago).

Like the result.

Unfortunately, such _is_ Constitutional - but for very different reasons.

The Militia Act of 1792, enacted by the Founding Fathers, did exactly what you suggest. The federal power to do so comes from the Constitution’s explicit granted power to organize and equip the militia as it saw fit - including by telling every able-bodied male to get his own gear at his own expense, or face a fine.

Being a _military_ power of the federal government, it is not a fitting rebuttal. Wish we would, though; I’d be happy to shell out fair market value for a new M16.

Exactly. Pay a tax if you don’t own a firearm.

Oh too bad felons.

Ha, congress is more apt to pass a $500.00 annual tax on every firearm you own and a $2,000.00 tax on every one you buy.

I don’t trust a single one of the &*#(+ $#*+ congress critters.

Interesting point – those of us who “previously” had firearms… Ahem… are having to take up the slack for those that think that guns are “Scary-looking” and think that they may just up and starting shooting people any minute…

Those folks have to bear the burden [and the arms] for the cost of procuring these fine pieces of machinery and the costs for ammo and the like.

This is just like those that have to pay extra for health insurance to bear the burden of the “Uninsured”.

SO, if it is sufficient for the geniuses in our government to want the uninsured to folk over some cash for health insurance, Why not do the same for self-defense?
