Consumer penalties: Part of the controversy surrounding health care reform was that the law would mandate coverage for all Americans on pain of penalties. Those penalties will be tiered and rise over a three-year period that kicks off in 2014, according to the National Association of Consumer Protection:

2014: Families––$285 or 1 percent of total household income, whichever is greater. Individual adults––$95. 2015: Families––$975 or 2 percent of income, whichever is greater. Individual adults––$325. 2016: Families––$2,085 or 2.5 percent of income, whichever is greater. Individual adults––$695.

And those fines aren’t enough to pay for anything, so in addition to that we’ll all be paying a hell of a lot more even if we have insurance!

I heard today that Capital Gains Taxes will top out at 43% for “high earners”. Gotta pay for all that FREE stuff they’re handing out.

I am not aware of what determines a “high earner”. In today’s world I would assume that is anybody with a full time job.

So what does this mean to the very poor, say between $7 and $10,000 a year individuals?

I hate to tell you this, but so far as I know, there is no exemption like that. I’ve been out of the US for two years, and still have to file federal returns every year on my foreign income. The only break is that the first $91k of that income is exempted from US tax. If you have different info, I’d sure love to see it, as having to file for foreign income that is fully exempted is a hassle.

That was the point, and why the insurance companies, and others standing to profit have been for it all along.

We've been bamboozled. 2,700 pages of it, followed by what is it now, more than 10,000 additional pages of rules?

Who can make war against this beast?

It's guys like you who plan on not playing along which make them wish ever the more to take all cash out of the people's hands, replacing it with electronic "money".

But before they can get around to doing that (not that it is all that far off into the future);
They'll lien your bank accounts, and or your wages (if you work for a paycheck.

Next up --- refusing business "licenses", then even your driver's license.

So, where does this fine go? Is there even any proof they'll put it toward healthcare costs?

Also the part of the article that says there's a penalty after 2018 if your employee gives you an expensive healthcare plan! I guess this is the so-called “Cadillac Plan”? When I checked last year, I think we had what was then considered a “Cadillac Plan”. Screw you, Obama! And I have never said that about an American President! I “respected the office”.

As I understand it, Health Insurance Companies will be forced to reinvest 85% of their Plan Premiums back into paid Benefits.

That means they have only 15% of their Gross Income to pay for Buildings Employees, Lawyers, paper clips etc.

They have to increase their Plan Premiums in order to expand that 15% so they can survive. No Business can last with such a narrow margin.

My B-I-L works for one of the bigger Insurers. He deals with Insurance Brokers who are up in arms about how confusing the Obamacare rules are. He simply tells them that HHS is supposed to provide clarity on the rules and they aren't. It's a cluster f**k from the word go and it won't get any better.

I think it depends on your income if you make under 65K
I think the penalty is around $1390.00 If you make 70K and are married you will get no subsidies and your penalty is around $1398. that is according to the WAPO calculator if you beleive that. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/politics/what-health-bill-means-for-you/ According to the legislation the tax or penalty for not having insurance is 2.5% of your income per the number of members in your household at least this is how I read it. My problem is I won't be able to afford a policy and I don't think I can afford the penalty either even though the gov thinks I should be able to they don't take into account all of my expenses that I have like food, mortgage, property taxes, car insurance, trasportaion, utilities, and clothing you know all the frivolous things in life. When the government many of whom are very wealthy look down upon their subjects and deem us to pay, they don't give a rats ass if we can not afford it we will pay or face the music.
I hope many of the people who think this Non care act was good get screwed too!!

Obamacare is backed up by the IRS. They CAN impound your Financial Accounts to get their “penalty”.

We are all Soviets, make that Cubans, no make that North Koreans now.

This is the reason that so many retired citizens have simply emmigrated and no longer live in the United States.

“Just wait until all the moonbats who voted for Obama get hit with this tax.”

If you don’t pay taxes, the mandate doesn’t apply to you. Swell, huh? His moonbats pay nothing, for the most part.

Prior to this new act we were the tenth freest nation on Heritage’s list.

This has to knock us down a few pegs.

We were no longer in the Free category, we had slid to the mostly free category.

Turn the lights out - it’s over.

[Serious questions: The welfare mother with six kids with six different last names: Who pays her premium? The newly arrived immigrant (both legal and illegal) without a dime on them: Who pays?]

These people will go to the emergency room for “free” treatment. People in this subculture who don’t like to wait for treatment in the emergency room simply call a “free” ambulance. When those new clients crammed into the “expanded” Medicaid program can’t find a doctor or have to wait three weeks to see one they will go to the “free” emergency room.
