Despite what you may have read, experts insist there’s no flesh-eating bacteria outbreak in the United States. But if recent high-profile cases of necrotizing fasciitis have shed light on the disease, which affects about 15,000 people each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control, then more good than harm has been done, they say.
Melissa Croucher is just happy to have her dad back. Melissa’s father, Tad Hawley, lost his leg to a flesh-eating bacteria around Easter. He became sick Sunday afternoon; the following afternoon, we were saying our goodbyes,” said Hawley’s daughter Melissa. It took only 32 hours for the bacteria to take over his body.
“It happened so fast. At first I wasn’t in pain. Then, in just a few minutes, I was in a lot of pain. That’s when I guess the infection took over,” said Hawley. The physician, Croucher, came in and said, “Mr. Hawley, you have a very serious condition. You have flesh-eating bacteria that is ravaging your body. I’m not sure you’re going to live.”
Croucher was there with her dad in the hospital. She said his leg looked like something out of a science fiction movie.“There was tremendous amounts of swelling. There was discoloration. It looked like a child came in with a marker and colored all over his leg. He had large blisters. His leg was oozing blood and puss. It was terrifying.”
This brings the number of recent NF cases in the National spotlight to four.

My front drapes are made from bed sheets. I mow my lawn every OTHER week, park my harley on the sidewalk to my front door, don’t have carpeting. My basement is unfinished and I intend to keep it that way. I got a 70 year old kitchen(except the fridge, its only 55 years old) and a 60 year old bathroom and I like it. The house is a hundred years old and still has the original windows(wavy glass panes), woodwork(albeit painted), doors, and furnace. Half the drawers and cupboards in my kitchen contain hand tools instead of kitchenware. There is not one piece of furniture in my house younger than 50 years and much of it is older than 70. Up until 5 years ago my bed still had exposed steel springs under the mattress and the mattress had buttons on it. My favorite couch is upholstered with indian blankets.
Won't change much unless I need to.
If you have some kind of running water, running hot water is for wimps.

I sorta have running hot water.
I do have a hot water heater. but 10 years ago it became heavily limed up. Not sure if you know about hot water heaters and what makes them leak. The mineral deposits on the inside of the tank get thicker and thicker over time until the fire has to run constantly to get the water hot. The lime acts like insulation preventing heat transfer into the water. Problem is, when the fire runs non stop, the metal overheats and begins to oxidize at an accelerated rate. Then you get a hole and a leak.(this is why stainless water heaters are kind of a waste of money)
Anyway, ten years ago I noticed my hot water heater was running non stop and the water took forever to heat up. So to make it last longer, I turned the temp of the water heater WAY down and reduced the gas pressure to the water heater gas burner.
The result is that I have warm water, not hot. But ten years later and i still have a water heater that doesn’t leak. I expect I could get another 5 years out of it with the current settings I have on it. had I not changed the settings, it would’ve been ruined in about a year.
Oh... I think I can do the heat transfer equations. I AM a cook, after all, raised in a family of plumbers.
I had the same issue so I quit taking baths in winter. Water coming out of the faucet right now is about 90F.

“Flesh eating bacteria” or NF isn’t directly contagious. More to the point, it’s more than one bacteria that requires a specific combination in a specific host to take off.
The research I’ve seen on this says that what determines whether NF explodes in a host is the host. Some hosts are “sweeter” than others, or something near to that effect.
That’s why you don’t see NF in clusters. It’s not moving from host to host. Rather, it’s a combination of bacteria common to humans that in certain humans catches fire in the right combination.
One wonders if changing the body's pH in a hurry would therefore halt it.

why just last night I was out singling. I had to give my buddy a ride to the next town over so he could propose to his gf and end both of their singlishness. The party that ensued after was great fun. I singled and reveled in my singularity...HAHA. singular ladies singled with me and we mutually single-fied our singlness. excessive imbibing in adult beverages ensued. In the morning I was still single...and so were they ladies.
They made me the ring bearer in their wedding. The flower girl is even older than I. I think I will try to single with her at the reception.
Guess I’m lucky. Took me 46 years to get married, but I found the right one. Had some friends that have gone through hell, tho.
I went through six years of hell with the one I chose.
I’ve had over 10 better years with the one God chose.
Transitive verbs help old white guys that want to be left alone.
