If you want a real-life tale of intrigue, murder, betrayal, and chicanery related to a set of families, its the Monarchy of England.
Someone posted a great documentary on this on YouTube a while ago. I wish I could remember what it was called.
1483, that’s really a long time to worry about stuff.
The rightful king of England, if this guy's claims are dismissed, is the head of the Wittelsbach line (descended from the Kings of Bavaria). It was Albrecht who was born in 1905--not sure who the current heir is. They have a better genealogical claim than the Hanoverian line but were excluded by the Act of Succession passed during the reign of Queen Anne.
I'm a history buff and you are right. Recently a cable channel had a series called the "Tudors" which is a story of Henry the 8th. For those who have seen it it is at least 95% factual history.
If true, the crown should have passed on to Edwards younger brother George, from whom Hastings directly descends.
If we get into the issue of whether the King was always the biological father of the crown prince, all royal lines will be thrown into great question.
I think the rule that was generally followed is the same one that mostly applies in American today: the child of a married woman is legally her husband's. This presumption is almost impossible to overturn, even with DNA evidence.
Although there was an attempt to exclude Charles VII of France, the opponent of English King Henry V, from the French throne by his mother (!) proclaiming that his father was not the king. (Wonderful family.)
Attempts to exclude a particular heir from the throne more often took the route of claiming the real baby died and the supposed heir was actually smuggled in and was a ringer.
Oooh, what fun. Watched the documentary with it. Seems way back when a Richard didn’t have a proper Edward as son.
War of the Roses. And it does seem pretty well documented. He says even the mother said the kid was a bastard.
Hey, I’m descended from a royal line back then. Maybe I should put in a claim.
Funny you mention that. When I was a kid my mom told me I was a decendent of French Royalty.
So did Mike die childless? if so does that end any other claims on the throne? Between then and now there are bound to be cousins, some of whom will have living descendants. In my own family there are historians that say we have a claim on the throne from about the year one thousand, with many thousand better claims in front of us. LOL
LOL! He had the right attitude.
I loved watching “Tudors” but I really think the sex scenes were way too much. I have a daughter who would have enjoyed it but I would have been uncomfortable watching it with her. I did not tell her about it.
Great movie....lots of humor but plenty of pathos too.
You really want to Elizabeth Warren yourself? REALLY?!?! :)
LMAO “Trailer Park Living”! Turkey Club sandwich debris all over the place! (Cat’s cleaning it up.)
We have our own usurper on this side of the pond.
Did Mike Hastings have any children?
Yes. See the Wikipedia article.
