Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has hit back at Rush Limbaugh, saying the talk show host has been “very wrong,” in his criticism of him.

In an interview for the New York Times Magazine, the 2008 presidential candidate was asked if he was “going after” Limbaugh by launching a competing syndicated talk show.

Huckabee responded, “He’s been very critical of me and very wrong. It’s one thing to have an opinion, but the opinion needs to be based on fact.

Everybody lies about poor ol' Huck.

Moderates in our party come a dime a dozen, Huckster.

They're about as common as fire breathing moderate republican-eating leftwing loonies are in the other party.

And about as useful as a limp hinkie.

While Rush was away, and I feared I might accidentally listen to Mark Davis, I decided to tune into Huckabeee, just for the heck of it. I think Ralph Nader was the guest.

The shows are so dissimilar, I think Huckabee has an opportunity to capture a unique audience...one very different from Rush's.

Huckabee is kinda like a “conservativeish” Charley Rose. Light-hearted, bland interviews about current events.

Not for me, but hey, the more the merrier.

““The atmosphere was so toxic that it would not be an atmosphere in which I would breathe well,” he said in the interview.”

There are 4 DEAD COPS in Washington state thanks to the one of the hundreds (or thousands) of FELONS you released, against the will of prosecutors, victims, and just about everyone else with sound judgement (including some liberals).

That is why you are not running this year, and until you APOLOGIZE to their families (including small children) you will NEVER again be a serious political figure.

Didn't he conspire w/ McCain in a primary or two to kill the conservative candidate...Thompson maybe? He used to be the darling of the Freepers back at the inaugural ball in 2001 when his band played. It turns out he was just another damn politician. Photobucket

You are a light-weight, Mr. Huckabee. Stop trying to be Mr. “Awh Shucks” and get real. There is a real cutural and political civil war going here in our nation, and you are not fighting in it. The bemused bystander act doesn’t cut it. Nice is not enough.

Much of this “controversy” is about the radio business, and Huckabee’s new talk show. He airs against Rush in most markets (Mistake #1). He launched on a lot of second-tier stations with weak signals that barely register in their local markets (Mistake #2). A lot of stations owned by his syndicator (Cumulus Media Networks) took a pass on his program, meaning he isn’t cleared in a lot of key markets (Mistake #3).

Additionally, initial ratings for Huckbaee’s venture have been weak, and Cumulus is already nervous, since they’re paying him a big check, and they’re not seeing any return on their investment (Mistake #4). And finally, Rush may be a little PO’ed because he makes lots of money for Cumulus stations (WABC in New York, WLS in Chicago, for example) and they have the gall to launch a high-profile show that competes directly against him (Mistake #5).

A lot of what you’re reading about Huck’s show is pure spin. When you can’t easily find a list of affiliates (four months into it’s run), it’s a sign of trouble. When you can’t any news touting its ratings debut (or improvement over previous shows in the same market/on the same station), it’s far from encouraging.

As a reformed broadcaster, I’m still confused by this move. It made little sense for Cumulus to launch a new conservative talk show in the 12noon-3pm eastern slot, where Rush already rules and there are other options for stations that can’t carry his program. I’m guessing that Rush’s contract with Cumulus is coming to an end, and they don’t want to pay the premium price to carry his show. Rush’s program is something fairly rare in talk radio—affiliates have to pay a fee for the program, and Rush gets a good chunk of the advertising time each hour. By comparison, most syndicated shows are provided for free, and the syndicator and the local station split the commercial time.

Huckabee has the look of a show that’s being developed just in case Cumulus (one of the cheapest companies in a tightwad business) parts company with Rush. If El Rushbo leaves Cumulus stations, look for him and Clear Channel to sign a deal with CBS.

Remember, CBS is one of the largest station groups in the country, and they have a number of under-performing outlets in major cities (WCBS-AM in New York; WNEW in Washington) that could be easily flipped to talk, with a format built around Rush. Clear Channel has already used this model in places like New Orleans and Pittsburgh, and despite the rampant liberalism of CBS News, CBS Radio would we delighted to have Rush.

I’d love to know when Rush’s deal with stations like WABC, WLS and WMAL expire.....

Screw hog boy here... we know his socialist big spending ways... his nepotism and his demented son that caused daddy huckster to fire a State officer over his refusal to NOT investigate his son's killing of a dog at Boy Scout retreat... and I heard Sean Hannity get him to say that if growing government power and size and raising taxes and increasing social spending (he claimed his Christianity compelled him to spend OPM) is socialism... then he is a socialist. He thought he was being absurd but he was being honest. One of the few times in his entire life. The dim party cannot put a dent Rush's persona and this fat ass will now feel the wrath of El Rushbo!

He is inventing a conflict with Rush to make people think they are in the same league.

Did they talk about the evils of Corvairs, knock-offs and other spinners on wheels?

If Rush called him a fat, ecumenical twerp, that’d be factual.

Maybe Rush noticed that Huckabee was both an anti-smoking and food Nazi and relayed those things to his listeners.

Huck said: "“The atmosphere was so toxic that it would not be an atmosphere in which I would breathe well,” he said in the interview. “There is almost a hyperorthodoxy that is gripping the party that you have to go out and prove that you can be tougher, meaner, more hard-line than anybody else on the stage."

Why is it, that loser GOP politicians, who lose among GOP voters, blame the voters? Let's roll out a short part of the list: Arlen Specter, Dick Lugar and now the Huck. All have blamed the right wing, tea party, conservatives, ideological purity, toxic atmosphere, etc. You lost. Get over it.

Responding to ExNewsExSpook very informative post directly. Just ask yourself, who is the talk radio audience? How many squishy moderates are in the audience. The Tea Party types dominated the audience. So, tell me how it makes sense, when you are starting a new talk show, that you trash your audience as toxic? I just don't get it.

Final point, the only former politician, who has made a good talk show host that I'm aware of, is Roger Hedgecock. Did I miss any one?

Once again, Huckabee has shown he is as out of touch on this matter as he has been on almost anything else.

I would only caution that if you put Rush on similar signals as Huck, he would perform similar to Huck. Rush ain’t exactly buring them up in Boston on a sick stick.
