Yes, bankrupt cities and “bankrupt” colleges and universities. The first has lost all the taxpayers money, and the second should be receiving the same fate. We are going to winnow the “herd” in more than one place and one of those “places” should be “higher education.” Time for the worthless, overpaid “profs” to go get a real job for a change. And it’s long past time when we should “listen” to the “legal community” for their “advice” on moral behavior. As a county, we would be a whole lot better off with fewer profs and lawyers.
I take it as rhetorical. It does illustrate that the litigious society does have a tendency to encourage dodging of moral responsibility. Nothing is ever a wrong for which forgiveness must be asked. Everything is an inadvertent mistake or an oversight. (Broadly generalizing here of course but I hope to get the idea across.)
Penn only had one pedophile (to best of knowledge) but still, the wink wink or not my job mon factor was huge. And, as the Catholic church officially tries to carry on in a holy manner, the Second Mile program officially tried to help troubled kids.
I wonder about whether the players knew or not. Some janitors were questioned and had seen abuse but said nothing for fear of their jobs (Joe having them fired). That hundreds of kids could come through the program and be unaware of this mess I find difficult to grasp. Maybe they didnt know. Who knows, the whole thing is mind-boggling.
First of all, football is a huge sport. Almost like a religion. Even with the rape, there are many fans who will go on supporting Penn State.
Second, the NCAA, the Big 10, and TV all stand to loose a lot of money if Penn State gets the death penalty. It ended SMU football for decades, and no one involved wants to stop that gravey train for a tier 1 school like Penn State.
Third. Sandusky was connected. Grahmn was connected (look into the Franklin Scandal in Nebraska to see how much). They will sacrifice a few, but I suspect this goes much higher than anyone will be allowed to see. By this time next year, it will be a foot note to all but the victims, who will be hounded and blamed (seen it happen) for hurting the religion of football.

For all of the people who didn't know what was happening (i.e. the fans... which I'm not one... I hate Penn State, the rest of the school, etc.), apologizing would be both stupid and meaningless. It would be like Obama apologizing to the Japanese for bombing Hiroshima (wait, he did what!?!?!). If these Penn State grads or fans didn't know or have anything to do with the rapes... then they owe nothing! Their apologies would be worthless.
And as far as the people who WERE responsible, knowledgeable, or involved... who wants their apologies? What good would an apology do the raped kids? I want them to grow old in a 5X5 metal cage, pining out the window for the free air they'll never breathe again. But somehow saying "I'm sorry" will make any of this better? Screw that! Apology NOT accepted! Now burn in hell.
This whole apology thing is stupid. Those words won't do a darn thing to fix anything that happened. This is just a bunch of media prima donnas who get off on expressing their "outrage" (all designed to show how great or enlightened they are). These'll be the same folks who express "outrage" at Rush Limbaugh for daring to try to own a football team (after what he said about that poor slu... er, I mean girl).
And nobody owes you, Mr. Doyle, anything. Period!

Penn State (the University Park campus and the many campuses across the State) won’t be shut down. The football program will probably continue also. I really can’t see the program being penalized nor should the athletes be punished for something they had no part in, imo.
I’d be thrilled if the entire Board of Trustees were ousted but that’s not happening either.
Not a lawyer but you can bet PSU lawyers have told these people to shut up.

Liberals are always looking for “apologies”, as if an apology accomplishes ANYTHING, anything at ALL. Who can forget that liberal mouse David Gregory (and others of his liberal Democrat ilk for that matter) beginning his questions at Bush press conferences with, “When are you going to apologize for...?”
That's an excellent point right there. In fact, just try to find any Democrat "mainstream" newsroom story about the Sandusky / Penn State scandal that uses the phrase "homosexual pedophile" and you will never find one. It's not politically correct to point out that Sandusky is a homosexual, you see. That part of the story is off limits. The "homosexual" part was, and has always been, the elephant in the living room when it comes to the Penn State scandal. Had Sandusky been raping little girls he'd have been in jail 15 years ago.
Expect pleas to remove the "social stigma" from adults who go after children sexually. Expect to hear "free to love" andand "we are a misunderstod minority who have been driven into the xhadows". Be prepared to be tutored in the concept that "morality" is a stifling, socially-constructed fiction, and that "all sexualities" have equal rights.
Expect the claim that adult sexual contact with children is far more common than you thought, and is good for kids: only the social disapproval does them lasting harm.
Expect full-scale promotion in the next 5 years.
Going from "abuse" to "experimentation" to "enrichment" is the usual trajectory.
Ask former Penn State president Graham Spanier about that.
