(CNN) -- While the nation wrestled with the aftermath of a shooting in Colorado that left 12 people dead, a Twitter account for the National Rifle Association had this to say:
"Good morning, shooters. Happy Friday! Weekend plans?"
That tweet was posted at 9:20 a.m. ET on Friday by an account for "American Rifleman," the official NRA journal. The group, which advocates for gun owners, appeared to have been pulled down from the Internet as of about 12:30 p.m. ET Friday.
"A single individual, unaware of events in Colorado, tweeted a comment that is being completely taken out of context," NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said in a comment issued to CNN.
He also said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and the community. NRA will not have any further comment until all the facts are known."

i guess somewhere in the Twitter user agreement it says that tweeting subjects you to mob rule.
Aren’t we fortunate that CNN is sooo on top of things?
It takes a really evil mind to come up with this “news” story.
Well with Holmes now looking like a leftie, the MSM has to work hard to muddy the water.
Shouldn’t the press be issuing guidelines about how much of - and for how long - our lives should integrate this crime?
There should be an “Incident Eggshell Meter” on the web, somewhere.
The tweeter probably, like most Americans, pays no attention whatsoever to the so-called MSM anymore. I didn’t find out about the shooting until a relative brought up the subject during a call this morning. CNN once again looking like the desperate leftwing propaganda organ it is. Pathetic.
Oh, good God. Is this for real?
As soon as I saw the headline and the angle of the article, I just knew the source would be CNN.
Sure enough.
Liberals love to lay these attacks off onto conservatives and the tea party, but Loughler was a libtard wacko and now it’s looking as though Holmes is a libtard wacko—for that matter George Zimmerman was a Democrat.
I'm just mildly curious, because the NRA guys can go in to the office a bit late on Friday and skip the morning news broadcasts and I'm not going to issue statements of condemnation.
If the retards at CNN think they're going to stir me up into a fit of righteous indignation over this, they can all go pound sand.
I don’t know, but based on my recollections, A mass murderer will most likely be either 1. A young Muslim male, or 2. A young white leftist male.
My wife and I are going to go shoot BIG GUNS tomorrow morning. The blood-dancing enemedia can suck on it.
Why should any law abiding gun owner feel any remorse about this event? Its the criminal and any enablers that are to blame. That is exactly what the left wants - legal gun owners feeling shame or guilt over the actions of violent criminals.
I am grieved by the deaths. And I am angry that all those people were stuck in that theater defenseless.
Maybe the tweet is in poor taste because of timing, but nothing more.
The left’s attempt to capitalize on any gun violence to push their agenda is really getting old.
That tweet could have been scheduled hours, days or months before it was sent.
Many businesses schedule their tweets to be sent on certain days, certain hours.
I do the same for my business’s Twitter account. Through-out the day scheduled Tweets are sent out.
Exactly! You know more than some.
Agree.
I don’t want to minimize this tragedy but what happened last night in a Denver theatre is a couple of weekend’s on the streets of Chicago.
I just found the fact that CNN thought it was worth mentioning completely stupid and infantile.
Just amazing.
I don’t think it is in poor taste, because the guy didn’t send the tweet with any knowledge of the previous night’s events.
If it were intentional, yeah. That would be bad. But this guy thought it was just another Friday morning.
