In a Friday proclamation, President Obama ordered the flags on public buildings flown at half mast in honor of the victims of the shooting in Aurora, Colo "as a mark of respect."

Section 7m of the Flag Code authorizes a governor to half-staff the US flag upon the death of a present or former official of the government of the state, or the death of a member of the Armed Forces from that state who dies while serving on active duty.
The President, by comparison, is authorized to half-staff the US flag by proclamation upon the death of principal figures of the US Government and the Governor of a State, territory, or possession, as well as in the event of the death of other officials or foreign dignitaries.
We recommend flying the state flag at half-staff.

A recent change allows governors to order the flag to half-staff to honor fallen soldiers from their state (see Public Law 110-41). The change was the result of governor proclamations, like this one from Governor Granholm of Michigan.
Some object to this extension of a governor’s authority because they feel half-staffing the flag for every fallen soldier can be seen as anti-war. Some feel that overuse cheapens the symbolic power of half-staffing the flag, traditionally reserved for political leaders.

Its a shame these poor people died the way they did, but it isnt proper to do this for them.

One weekend, several weeks back, we had 14 people killed and thirty-some-odd wounded in separate shooting incidents here in Chicago, one of Obama’s “home towns’.
I didn’t hear any Obungo speeches or see any flags lowered for victims here.
Why not pass a concealed carry law instead? If people in that theater had been armed, the shooter would have thought twice or been shot long before 13 people were dead.

Flags at half mast only for congressmen, senators, military or POTUS. Oh silly me I forgot Obama makes the rules now.
He's been given everything on a gilded platinum platter. He has not the foggiest concept of either patriotism or hard work. So for him, a stubbed toe or an unkind word is a half-staff event.
Side Note,
For those of you who have seen the picture of him cringing during the martial arts demonstration at the White House, how many kids to you think he would have used as shields in order to get away safely? I'm guessing one small child in a white dress similar the scene in New Jack City.

I was in the General Surgery reception/waiting area at Balboa Naval Hospital this morning. This section is also the check in section for the C5 (Comprehensive Combat and Complex Casualty Care ) patients.
I saw many young men come in, missing one or more limbs and/or suffering from head trauma. To say it is sad is an understatement.
One Marine came in missing an arm and a leg--used a cane to get around. He sat in front of the tv and watched the endless coverage of the shootings in CO. He said a few choice curse words, then said "Who cares"?
ANother Marine came in on a wheelchair, missing one leg above the knee. He seemed even more angry than the first young man. He and the first Marine had either run into each other at the C5, or perhaps were in the same unit..not sure. Anyway, they each described to each other where their "nubs" started. The one in the wheelchair mentioned he had just seen his for the first time today..
Later, the Marine in the wheelchair rolled up to the tv and said loudly to the tv: "F###-ing drop it already. So what, they are dead. Get over it. This is all we are going to see for the next week...you people are going to make heroes out of them, and in the meantime, my brothers in Afghanistan are getting massacred every day and no one says a word about them."
This has NOTHING to do with respect for the victims and EVERYTHING to do with votes.
Obama continues to be disgusting in every way.
